OFFICIAL TNA “iMPACT!” RESULTS
Thursday, October 26, 2006 – Orlando, FL
By: Marcus Cygy
Just off the heels of “Bound For Glory” last Sunday, TNA returned to Orlando, Florida for “iMPACT!” on Spike TV!
The new NWA World Heavyweight Champion, Sting opened up the program in front of a jammed pack arena that paid respect to the icon. Christian Cage was apparently there to steal his thunder though, just like he claims Sting to have done when he was champion. He was also there to request a shot at the NWA World Heavyweight Title, and Sting said he could have a shot, but only when he says he can!
It was a privilege and honor for “The Franchise” Shane Douglas to introduce Andy Douglas and Chase Stevens of The Naturals to the ring. They were set to face LAX for the NWA World Tag Team Titles, but before the match occurred we witnessed a beat down brawl by America’s Most Wanted, who have also been vying for a shot at the titles. Finally security was able to stabilize the chaos and instill order for the match to take place.
The match itself was a letdown for Shane Douglas and it all came ahead once Andy Douglas landed awkwardly on the outside. His shoulder was hurt and he would suffer the loss via Cracker Jack from Hernandez, while Chase Stevens took a Gringo Killer from Homicide. Homicide and Hernandez retained the NWA World Tag Team Titles.
After the match, Shane Douglas was ready to snap and throw a slap or two but the tables suddenly turned with Andy and Chase throwing the punches. “The Franchise” fell to the ring canvas while sporting a bloodied mouth. Initially “The Franchise” appeared to be irate, but his mean demeanor turned into a sick smile – almost like he was happy to see the new fire in The Naturals.
Backstage, Alex Shelley was ordered by Kevin Nash to capture footage of Austin Starr whenever possible. Alex questioned Nash on this order, but Kevin said it was only because Austin was different. This tension between Shelley and Nash could be a string of future eruptions to come.
Next we had the beginning stage of the “Fight For The Right” Tournament to decide who will face Sting for the NWA World Heavyweight Title at the “Genesis” Pay-Per-View on November 19. Eighteen wrestlers were ringside in anticipation of entering the ring in a backwards Battle Royal. Once seven men were entered into the ring, the second stage would begin with a traditional Battle Royal. The third stage would see the final two competitors wrestle in a singles match.
Robert Roode was the first man to enter the ring. Following Roode was Chris Sabin, AJ Styles, Christopher Daniels, Abyss, Lance Hoyt, and Ron Killings who all entered the ring to continue into stage two of the “Fight For The Right” Tournament now with a traditional Battle Royal.
The Battle Royal began immediately after stage one. Being eliminated in the Battle Royal did not mean you were out of the tournament though. Ron Killings was fist eliminated which put him into the first seed of the tournament brackets. That was then followed with Hoyt eliminating Chris Sabin to put him in the sixth seed. Ms. Brooks then caught Christopher Daniels in the corner as Robert Roode was able to throw him out, but he would follow Daniels out when AJ Styles came up with a high kick to the head. AJ Styles would have soon follow suit, leaving Lance Hoyt and “The Monster” Abyss as the final two.
This brought us to stage three of the “Fight For The Right” in a traditional wrestling match. The winner of this stage would receive a bye into passed the next round of the tournament. Lance Hoyt would go through with great strides in trying and win the bout, but “The Monster” Abyss proved to be too much for the big man from Dallas, Texas.
Jeff Jarrett’s exclusive interview with Jeremy Borash that took place immediately after “Bound For Glory” was then shown. In it, Jarrett explained that he had some personal and professional issues to take care off. He explained that after years of wrestling all over the world he was now exhausted. So where is he going? Home was the answer. Jeff Jarrett is now going home, how long was not revealed though. Before leaving, Jarrett had sincerely hoped that Sting, the new NWA World Heavyweight Champion, would be able to cope with the pressure that goes along with being the champion in TNA. With everyone gunning towards Sting, it could be only a matter of time before the champion cracks under pressure. Regardless of Sting though, Jeff Jarrett is now gone indefinitely from in-ring competition in TNA.
The only Olympic gold medalist in TNA history then made his first live speech within the iMPACT! Zone. Kurt Angle explained that when you’re the best in TNA, you’re the best in the world because TNA has the best talent in the world. What he wasn’t told by TNA headquarters in Nashville, Tennessee though was that Samoa Joe is a bleeder. Those comments prompt Joe to unleash havoc in the ring that saw security and several wrestlers trying to break up the brawl.
Kurt Angle and Samoa Joe are scheduled to go one-on-one for the very first time at TNA “Genesis” on Sunday, November 19 live and exclusively on Pay-Per-View! Plus, on the “iMPACT!” Primetime debut scheduled for Thursday, November 16 – we will see Christian Cage vs. Rhino in the first ever Barbed Wire Steel Cage Match!
