You will never believe who I am picking for one of the stars of Raw last night. I’ll share that with you in a little bit. I totally liked the show last night, there were only three segments that I didn’t like and out of those three, one was really a disaster. But all in all Raw was a damn good show and I can’t wait to talk about it.
Let me start with the one segment that I hated, A LOT. Steve-O and the other guy showing up. You know I’m not a kid, but there are plenty of songs and movies for the young crowd that I like, but Steve-O isn’t in that category. I saw the first Jack Ass movie and I laughed at some parts other parts were too much for me. But having him and Chris Pontius come in the ring and get taken out by Umaga was as annoying as watching the Miz week after week, if not worse than watching the Miz week after week. You know I can still see that jerk Steve-O smiling after Umaga kept attacking him. There was nothing beneficial about watching this at all, and having someone getting up and laughing at the “monster” Umaga’s moves did nothing for the Umaga character. What a total piece of garbage all of this was. The second segment that I didn’t like was Carlito working with Rob Conway. Conway has been off TV for I don’t know how long, and I was under the assumption that Carlito was getting a huge push. And then he comes out and they have a match together, a very quick match.
Now I don’t want to jump the gun because maybe next week Carlito will be back up there again, but seeing him wrestle in a match that meant nothing just surprised me so much. Of course the first thing that I thought of was that he must have a spot in Vince’s dog house. Well like I said let’s see what happens with Carlito next week and if this Conway thing continues than yeah I would say Carlito is not one of Vince McMahon’s favorite right now. And finally the bra and panties women’s tournament match with Maria vs. Torrie vs. Victoria vs. Candice was the last segment that I didn’t like at all. This thing was all filler, it didn’t flow and it’s sad to see Victoria a very capable wrestler stuck in this one. So sure there were a few bad segments but everything else worked and worked so well.
I cannot tell you how much I loved watching the fake DX come out. Edge’s false nose was so funny, yet it did look like Hunter, and because of that I was hysterical. And to make things even better Edge had some of Hunter’s actions down so well that I couldn’t get enough of what he was doing. Randy’s HBK wasn’t the best, yet at times he did have a few of Shawn’s mannerisms. This was all Edge and I have to name him as one of my Raw stars of the night. I also thought Triple H and Shawn did a nice job of interacting with Orton and Edge. I got a kick out of Randy’s “naughty” towel pictures and then adding one of Shawn’s Playgirl pictures up on the Titan Tron was also good for a laugh. This was a fun opening segment and I am still very high on this feud, very high.
Finally Cryme Tyme made their debut. I thought their entrance was very cool, and I was happy with their in ring skills. I think both guys have a great look, and JGT has so much life in him that I found myself really watching him. I was quite impressed with these two guys last night. As I watched their match against Johnny and Mikey from the Spirit Squad, I thought if only these two were on Smackdown, because Smackdown is the place for some very good tag team talent. But I did enjoy Cryme Tyme’s debut and I’m hoping the more we see them the more we are going to like them. Jeff Hardy vs. Shelton Benjamin vs. Chris Masters vs. Super Crazy in a Fatal Four-way for the IC title was a hell of a match. Hardy the IC champion again looked terrific out there as did the other guys. This was a nice mix of talent, and even though I’m not a Chris Masters fan he came through in this one. Okay let me hit the main event with Hunter vs. Randy Orton.
It was a very good match. And I can’t wait to see DX vs. Edge and Randy Orton at Cyber Sunday. While Randy lately has left me rather cold on the mic, in the ring he always seems to come through. I liked watching these two and I could see Triple H and Orton somewhere down the line having some pretty solid matches. But even though last night’s match wasn’t super long we got a nice idea of how these two work with each other and it’s all good. I was very happy with this match and as I said earlier I’m very hyped with the DX/Edge/Orton feud.
Okay I saved my last star for last. While this angle with Booker, Big Show and John Cena is coming off well, they weren’t the stars of the next segment. No that honor goes to KEVIN FEDERLINE my last Raw star of the night. Now first let me say, that I am not a fan of his, oh no not even close. This guy wouldn’t know talent if it hit him in the face. When I read that he was on Raw I was not pleased at all, but to my amazement he was perfect on the show last night, and I’ll tell you why. Kevin Federline didn’t have to “try” to act; no all he had to do was play himself. Kevin is so unlikable and because of that it was great watching and hearing the crowd react to him. I think it was cool having Melina and Johnny Nitro bring him out as their A list” buddy, how funny is the sound of K-Fed on the A list? And to have the smart ass FU’d by John Cena was icing on the cake for all those fans that were booing the hell out of Federline. Who knew that he could come off so natural?
This was a fun Raw and the Los Angeles crowd brought a lot to the show. I will leave you with two items. First there are two Kurt Angle interviews out there so check them out, I found a lot of what he had to say quite interesting. Also I have a reader that is looking for WWF videos from 1995 and before… and WCW tapes 1995 and after… No DVD’s please. You can email him at nu2life80@aol.com. I’ll be back with my Smackdown thoughts over the weekend.
