Hey remember last week when I didn’t spend too much time talking about Raw because I wanted to give you my thoughts on Kurt Angle and TNA? Well if it’s okay with all of you, I have a new topic I would like to spend some time on. And because of that I would like to spend less time on last night’s show and more time on my new cause, and because I have read so much negative feedback on this topic, I guess you could say I feel I need to give you my opinion on it. Now as far as Raw goes, and by the way what I plan to talk about has to do with the show, but as far as the show went last night, I liked it. I thought it was much better than last week’s show.
Before I get into the parts of Raw I didn’t like, let me start off with something that I really liked and that was the main event. Now most of you know I am NOT a John Cena fan, but I have to give me major props because when it comes to the tough matches he has come through. And I’m talking about the feuds he had with RVD, Sabu and the Ladder Match with Edge. It seems like when it comes to your basic matches he comes off weak, but in extreme matches this guy can go. The Edge/Cena feud has probably been one of the best WWE feuds in a long time. I was just so into last night’s Cage match as was that Topeka, Kansas crowd. Now I knew that Edge wasn’t going to win, but this all played out so well. This was just an awesome match.
I also couldn’t have been happier with the Jeff Hardy victory and title win over Johnny Nitro. This was another very good match and in the back of my mind I figured Hardy would win since this was his third time going for the IC title, but then again I was concerned that Nitro would walk out the winner. I will say I think its time to reinvent Melina. The character has run its course. I don’t feel she ever bounced back from that atrocious angle with Batista last year. There is nothing that she does that makes me enjoy her. Of course I know her entrance is something a lot of you guys like, but even that doesn’t make for a good character. Speaking of the women, I was very disappointed in Victoria’s match against Mickie James. It was flat, it didn’t flow and there was absolutely no chemistry between these two women. I think a major part of the problem is that Vince McMahon has taken so much away from this division. What was once a strong division is just there, you know like the Raw tag team division, which I will get too. Another match that stunk was Umaga vs. Snitzky. I was wondering where Kane was since there’s that “big” announcement for next weeks Raw that it will be Kane vs. Umaga, loser leaves Raw, I would have expected Kane to show up and go after Umaga. A waste of time match was Sgt. Slaughter vs. the Spirit Squad’s Nicky. And Carlito vs. Randy Orton was not one of their best matches, not even close. Wow with all this dislike it’s amazing that I even liked the show, and I did and now let me tell give you my thoughts on what seems to be the topic of conversation since last night.
I guess you could say I’m a little pissed off reading all the anti DX feedback since last night. I’m not getting this stuff from my readers it’s feedback on some of the sites. I have seen things like, they are old men acting like teenagers, they are over weight, they aren’t funny AND they have killed the tag team division. Listen we are all entitled to our opinions. There are times that I don’t find DX funny, in fact for a while I wasn’t laughing too hard. But last night yeah they were on throughout the show, but they weren’t on where their segments went on for 10 minutes or mote. They were on in short segments and for the most part I laughed, and enjoyed them very much. I don’t see them as old men, probably because Hunter is 37 and Shawn I believe is 41 that’s not old to me, but maybe that’s because I’m old, I see them as two young guys that are having a good time doing what they are doing. In fact, Shawn Michaels now seems to be into DX again. I remember talking about how he seemed uncomfortable doing this since DX was known for being on the dirty side. But now I see a much more comfortable Michaels and I see a Triple H that played the heel for so long really enjoying being the “funny” guy and just making jokes and inter acting with the fans. Sure there are times when they can get carried away and not be funny, but last night they came through. But I guess what really got to me was the idea that we can now blame DX for the end of the tag team division. How can they kill that division when there is no Raw tag team division it died a long time ago. I will say this, the Spirit Squad did suffer from being used week after week and losing and being made to look like fools by DX, but as far as The Highlanders go, they were done once they started having Eugene and Hacksaw come out with them, and when the lost to the Spirit Squad at Unforgiven that was the end of this tag team. Charlie Haas and Viscera I don’t even count as a real tag team. They are hardly ever seen on Raw and they were just put together because of the accident to Lillian’s hand by Charlie Haas. And finally Cade/Murdoch had that big build up last year and then out of the blue they were done as a tag team and if you didn’t watch WWE during Raw commercial breaks you would miss a so called comedy segment with Murdoch. So my point is this, there isn’t one tag team to get excited about and as far as DX being blamed for killing that division, it’s jus ridiculous. The problem is that DX since they started had Vince and Shane and the Spirit Squad for several months and when that finally ended there wasn’t upper card talent to put in a feud with DX. As a DX fan it’s been hard to watch them face any of these guys it’s been a let down for me it really has been.
I just wanted to get my feelings out about DX getting such negative feedback. Now with this NwO rumor, I’m not so sure how that will work out if it should happen, believe me I have mixed feelings about that, but blaming DX for destroying the tag team division I just don’t see it. I am off to get ready for ECW. I read the spoilers and I’m looking forward to watching the show, and I’m also looking forward to the last Smackdown before No Mercy. Feel free to start sending your No Mercy predictions in, I’m not ready for mine because I have to see how things end up Friday night.
