There is so much that I could say about a match that took place Sunday at Summer Slam, but I’ve thought very hard about letting my feelings out because it certainly wouldn’t be a pretty thing to read. So let me touch on Summer Slam and then on Raw and I will throw a few of my thoughts into that match that still has me still reeling with anger. I’m sure most of you already know what match I’m talking about. By the way I did miss three picks but I’m damn proud that I picked Batista’s DQ win, at least I did something right.
I loved Summer Slam! It was so much better than I could have imagined it would be. Let me tell you a few things that didn’t win me over. First, the only really bad match was Batista vs. Booker T. I was very disappointed in what I saw. Call it ring rust but Batista was a flop. Now as many of you know I’m a big Animal fan, but he looked awful against King Booker. He was slow and none of his moves flowed. Hopefully this was a one time thing but I really expected so much more from him and the match. And as much as I like the King Booker character I found it so obnoxious that they had him using a British accent in his segment with Edge. I saw no humor in that at all. I thought the opening match with Chavo vs. Rey Mysterio was excellent. These two guys did an awesome job. What I didn’t like was the whole Eddie Guerrero thing. Vickie Guerrero doesn’t belong there and it’s just gone on WAY TOO LONG. I thought it was great that the Boston crowd started booing soon as Vickie came out. Things got so bad that Rey Mysterio also received plenty of the boos. I’m hoping that all of the negative fan reaction opened up Vince McMahon’s eyes and he will now stop using Eddie to try to get heat.
Okay I’m keeping this so short; I thought the Hulk Hogan/Randy Orton match was okay. It was a typical Hogan match, nothing new there. I have to laugh when I read some of the feedback where so many say Hogan really came through considering the knee injury. I’m laughing because it hasn’t been proven that he had a knee injury in the first place. But the thing that pisssed me off was that he couldn’t put Randy Orton over. That’s all I’m going to say about the match. Ric Flair and Mick Foley put on an outstanding match, and having Foley say I Quit to save Melina was perfect. This way Flair won but Foley didn’t come off week; he came off more like a hero. Big Show vs. Sabu was good; this was another match that worked a lot better than I thought it would. Sure Sabu got sloppy a few times but all in all it was a decent match.
I liked the main event very much. Edge and Cena have nice chemistry together and along with the crowd getting into this one it just came off so well. And the crowd shocked me with the Cena boos and anti Cena chants, believe me I didn’t see anything like that coming. But I’m thrilled that Edge held on, and no not because I’m not a Cena fan, but because Edge deserves to have a title reign that lasts more than 4 weeks. This was a very good match to end the show. And finally I just want to say I thought DX vs. The McMahon’s was fantastic. The feedback out there on the sites seemed to not be so thrilled with this match. I liked everything about it, it was entertaining, and it was fun watching Shane and Vince use Shawn to do signature moves of other tag teams. And bringing out Finlay, Regal, Mr. Kennedy…Kennedy and Big Show to destroy Hunter and Shawn was a very nice touch. As one of my readers said yesterday this told a good story and I totally agree with that. This was my match of the night with the main event right up there. I’m very glad I ordered the show and now let me go right to Raw and I will try to keep it short.
I liked Raw very much, again I thought the first hour was a little better than the second hour but I did like the show. DX vandalizing Vince’s property was fun and I would like Vince to “suffer a nervous breakdown†thanks to everything DX has done to him. By having that happen he could stay away for a while and DX could move on to some new blood to work with. But I’m not sure if that’s going to happen. I will say Vince and Shane were on again a little too much but all in all the DX segments came off well. I loved the opening so much partially because of Edge not coming out with Lita which made him look so much better out there, and also because of the return of Jeff Hardy. That was a nice surprise. Their match was also very good. Cena attacking Edge and taking it outside and to the harbor came off very well. It reminded me so much of Austin and Rock going at it years ago, but this came off just as strong. Trish vs. Victoria was another good match. I’m guessing that Trish’s win definitely solidifies her as the number one contender for the Women’s title against Lita at Unforgiven. Randy Orton at least in my books is no longer the Legend Killer and I guess he can thank Hogan for taking that gimmick away from him, unless he’ll now be known as the Almost Legend Killer, nah that doesn’t work. Anyway I knew that Ric Flair would let Orton look good in the ring and he did. Now the best part of all of this? Since Carlito came out to stop Orton from beating Flair we now we get a Carlito and Orton feud. Now that’s cool.
What I didn’t like was the Spirit Squad vs. Hacksaw Duggan, Eugene and the Highlanders. I guess the theory is that to get the Highlanders over as a faces they need to continuously have Duggan and Eugene come out with them. But for me? Those two guys are doing nothing for the newcomers. Now I want to know how come I very seldom get all of my predictions right but Sunday night and last night I saw three things happening way before were they were going to happen? The first was that I knew at Summerslam that Hunter and Shawn were talking to Kane behind the door. The second was Umaga last night interfering in the Kane/Nitro IC championship match. That was a given after Kane took this guy out during the DX/McMahon match on Sunday. And the third one was no shock to me, boy did I see this one coming during my favorite Kiss My Ass club segment (and no I really don’t meant that), but I knew that poor emotional Melina was going to turn on Mick, and sure enough she did. Nothing surprised me with any of the above. And speaking of the Kiss My Ass club segment I am so bored and tired of it, that I found myself turning my head the closer Foley got to Vince’s ass.
But all in all I thought Summerslam was very good and Raw was right up there. Okay tonight Sabu has a championship rematch against the Big Show in ECW. And, Bob Holly and Matt Striker are now on the ECW roster. Holly I can see, but Striker? That I can’t see. Also I just read that Kurt Angle has a tear in the groin, so again he should be out for a while. And tonight is the Smackdown taping, and you have no idea how much I’m hoping that Eddie’s name no longer has to be dragged into storylines. I really have no idea what Smackdown will offer, but remember next month is Unforgiven with the Raw brand, so Smackdown has several weeks where they don’t have to build things up for a pay per view, hopefully that isn’t going to make for some very bland programming.
