Get ready to lay some serious smack down as SVR enters the 360 wrestling ring!
The latest incarnation of WWE SVR 2007 gives players the choice of four wrestlers; Ray Mysterio, Triple H, Kurt Angle and Jon Cena. Even this early on in development, each celebrity grappler’s likeness is remarkable – and if we hadn’t seen the character models of Table Tennis and Fight Night: Round 3 we’d have been amazed at the level of realism. Each character sweats, moves and growls just like their real-life counterpart. Only their oddly bland faces are a letdown, but we’re sure it won’t be long until each wrestler’s features are given a next-gen makeover.
One of the big standout moments for us was realising that the cheering crowd has been given the same eye-watering level of detail as the fighters themselves. This means that the rowdy mass of spectators finally has a life of its own – you really feel like your pride is on the line when you’re wrestling in front of a baying mob of 65,000 truck drivers, strippers and mobsters! If you’re thrown over the barriers into the horde, some jeer in your ear while others will give you a pat on the back! You can also collect weapons from the crowd including beer bottles and canes.
Players can now carry out a range of flashier, more complicated and violent moves than ever before – which means you can enact bloody revenge of your least favourite character! Grabbing Kurt Angle’s head and smashing it into the ring stairs is a personal favourite. The speed and strength of the attack directly relates to a range of subtle movements on the Right thumbstick. After a few violent slams we opted for several light taps. It’s a brutal move, but has the scope to be incredibly humiliating to your foe.
Finally, we’re still waiting to see how the Career mode transfers to the new Xbox 360 version. While there’s no denying that the multiplayer aspect of WWE 2007 is shaping up nicely, we’re interested in seeing whether the single-player experience can fight its way up to the title of ‘Must Buy’.
