You know summer is coming to an end when WWE puts on their biggest pay per view of the summer, Summer Slam. I am looking forward to the show and I’m all ready to go with my predictions. Now as far as I’m concerned, this show is less than predictable. I see from many of the emails that I have received that you feel the same way. I would say that Cena seems to be the guy that most of you believe will win, however as far as DX vs. The McMahon’s, Booker T vs. Batista and Hogan vs. Orton goes, there doesn’t seem to be a clear cut winner. I don’t have a good feeling about the majority of my picks, but as I always say this is for fun and I wouldn’t miss a chance to share them with you. By the way have you noticed that Smackdown only has two matches tonight? If Vince feels so little for that show how can he expect the fans to be so high on it? Anyway I will now give you my very unsure picks of the night.
Big Show vs. Sabu for the ECW championship
First let me say that I was listening to a hotline report mid week and this report was more than sure that Kurt Angle was going to be added to tonight’s match. Now I haven’t seen that anywhere else so I don’t know how true that is. But whether this becomes a triple threat match or not I say Big Show wins. I have seen a change in Show; he’s a little more brutal and has a nice nasty side, which helps make him a little more believable as the ECW champion. Notice I said a little more. However I don’t know if Sabu and Show have enough chemistry to make this good. Now if Angle was a part of this, I think he would definitely make things a lot more interesting. I do see RVD showing up and making some kind of impact in this one, and it all could turn out to be a decent segment.
Winner: Big Show
Rey Mysterio vs. Chavo Guerrero
Now there is a lot of talk on the net that after tonight Rey Mysterio will be taking 6 months off to have surgery on his injured knee. Like the Angle rumor I don’t know if this is true. If this is the case then I could see Rey winning and a very angry Chavo attacking Mysterio after the match causing Mysterio to leave for a while. OR Chavo will beat the hell out of him, and with the help of Vickie Guerrero, Chavo will win. I do see Vickie turning on Rey and siding with Chavo tonight, now if she didn’t that would really surprise me. This should be a good match but since Vince is so pro Raw I’m wondering how much time he’s going to let these guys have.
Winner: Chavo Guerrero
Mick Foley vs. Ric Flair – I Quit Match
Talk about a difficult choice here? I would love to tell you that I am so certain who the winner will be. But I’m not. Since Flair beat Foley and Vengeance I would think that this match will be Foley’s. Yet I really don’t know. I do know well I think I know that this is going to be a blood fest and I can see both men taking major bumps. This match should be a must see match. At least I know I can’t wait to see it. As far as whom I am going with? I’m just flipping a coin and picking Mick to beat Ric in this one.
Winner: Mick Foley
Hulk Hogan vs. Randy Orton
I have to go with an Orton win here; I think it’s the only way to go. Let’s see if the Boston fans react a lot better to Hogan than last week’s Raw fans did. I’m going to guess that this will be a short match and I sure hope a decent match.
Winner: Randy Orton
DX vs. The McMahon’s
I know we put up with DX and the Spirit Squad for a long time, and it seems like Vince and Shane but more Vince has been just all over the place as far as DX goes. I would love to see a DX victory, which hopefully would mean that Vince would now keep a very low profile on Raw. But there are a lot out there that see the McMahon’s winning and this feud continuing. Not me, I’m going with Shawn and Hunter for the win, and I’m hoping that this match will be a lot more entertaining than the Vengeance match against the Spirit Squad. I thought that was a good match but not a great match. I think we all know Umaga is going to get in here at some point, and yeah he could be the reason why DX loses, but week after week Vince and Shane have taken care of DX so I see a DX victory.
Winners: DX
Booker T with Sharmell vs. Batista for the World Championship
Not only do I see Sharmell interfering but I’m sure Finlay and Regal will be a part of this too I am going with Batista winning on a DQ and without a doubt this feud will continue. Booker has been on a HOT streak not only in the ring but on the mic as well. And with the real problems Batista and Booker have including that fight during the Summer Slam commercial filming the fans are going to be very boisterous while this takes place. It seems like the more wrestlers really don’t get along with each other, the better the chemistry is when they work together. So I’m hoping we will see one hell of a match tonight.
Winner: A DQ win for Batista
Edge with Lita vs. John Cena for the WWE Title
This is a match that’s going to be a tough one for me to take for two reasons. One reason is because Cena’s chain gang will be so loud since Summer Slam is in front of his home town, Boston. I thrive on anti Cena chants and boos. And two, because he’s in Boston I can’t see him losing. I watched the Raw highlight show early this morning and it seems like even though Cena ran in during the Edge vs. Carlito match and attacked Edge, Edge was able to leave with Lita while Cena just remained on the floor. I think it stinks to take this from Edge so soon, since this happened the first time Edge beat Cena. It would be another time where Edge held on for a very short time. Monday’s Raw as I said in my column showcased a champion and I would hate to see him lose it tonight. But I’m going with Cena to walk out the champ and for Edge and Cena to have a rematch at next months Unforgiven. I’m sure with Edge in there this is going to be a very good match, and I am even more sure that this will definitely end the show.
Winner: John Cena
Now have you noticed that Carlito, Kane, Shelton Benjamin, Johnny Nitro, Trish, Mickie, Lita, Finlay, Lashley and others aren’t even a part of this show? With only seven matches I am wondering if maybe one more won’t be added, but still you are looking at a lot of WWE’s top talent sitting it out tonight. Okay let’s hope this is a very good show and for those of you that will be there live have fun, and keep those Cena chants to a minimum. Only kidding, have a great time. For those of you that would like to watch the show for free here you go. TheWrestlingVoice.com is doing free, pop-up free live coverage of Summerslam tonight for people who can’t afford the PPV or do not want to spend the money. It starts at 7:30 EST PM and is on average, fifteen minutes faster than other sites. I’ll be back on Tuesday with Summer Slam and Raw thoughts.
