Summerslam will prove to be yet another successful “major” PPV for WWE. I’m excited to watch some of the match-ups this year and see if Vince and the creative staff will throw us all some curve balls we are not expecting.
One match I’m anxious to see in particular is King Booker vs. Batista. Obviously, Mysterio was going to lose the title to a heel so it would set up Batista’s new world title reign. As much as I would like to see Batista with the title around his waist, I do not want to see it at the expense of King Booker. Booker has finally started to see the attention he deserves and finally has a World Title again, which has been long overdue. I would hate for Booker to keep the title for such a short period of time and be a “transitional” champion just so Batista can be on top again. In my opinion, they should leave the title on Booker a few more months and let the excitement of Batista claiming the title again continue to grow. It would be a very obvious outcome if Batista pins Booker’s shoulders to the mat for three seconds at Summerslam. Throw that curve ball Vince and not only reward Booker with an extended title run, but reward the fans with an unexpected outcome and exciting match.
The continued entertaining segments by DX are always worth tuning in to RAW on Monday nights. I was thrilled when the group formed again and started leaving their mark over the entire wrestling world. If you visit my website, www.chairshots2cranium, you will see where they have already graced the site with their presence. I’m anxious to see how long Triple H and Shawn Michaels stay together and I’m hoping it isn’t a short-term deal that ends after Summerslam or their feud with McMahon is over. Certainly, feuding with Vince needs to be an ongoing story line, but I’m hoping Vince brings in the help of another old group to help him defeat DX once and for all. Of course, the group I’m speaking of is none other than the N.W.O. Bringing in Hall and Nash would be a great addition to WWE once again and it would reunite a lot of old friends. I think we could see some very interesting story-lines if Vince decides to make the move and bring back the 2nd most influential group in professional wrestling.
I’m curious to know the opinions of all you about the “New” ECW. My feelings on the matter are still up in the air. I enjoy watching the show on Tuesday nights, but I feel like it’s missing something. I’m not sure what that “something” is yet, but it certainly does not have the same ECW feel from the 90’s. I know it’s been hard for WWE to acquire every former ECW star they want, so they have tried to bring in new faces to help boost the brand again. In my opinion, I think it would be best if they got a little more hardcore and adventurous than what they have been doing. The only good ECW match I’ve seen so far was the tag match between Sandman/Dreamer and Test/Knox. Vince created ECW again to not only meet the needs of thousands of ECW faithful, but to create that edgy and different variety to help rival the small amount of pressure being put on by TNA. I’ll keep watching and hoping that Vince and Paul Heyman develop ECW into the brand it was in the past and should be in the present and future.
