Raw moves closer to SummerSlam and while there will be no Hulk Hogan; we will have Triple H face the undefeated Samoan Bulldozer Umaga. What is next for the Intercontinental title with Shelton Benjamin and Carlito both on Johnny Nitro’s heels? What will happen when Randy Orton goes into the King’s back yard of Memphis to face the Memphis legend, Jerry Lawler? What other matches will we see at SummerSlam? What will happen with Mick Foley and Ric Flair this week? Also this week, we will find out which one of the Diva Search contestants did not impress the viewers with their abilities to take a pie to the face while telling them why they should win the contest. What will DX do to Vince McMahon and ‘his son’ Shane this week after Hunter was arrested for possession of Cuban cigars?

We begin tonight’s show with footage from last week’s episode of Raw when Shawn Michaels lost to Umaga due to involvement by Vince McMahon and ‘his son’ Shane. Then we see Vince McMahon whip Shawn with his belt while Shane hits a super kick on Shawn into a chair. We hear Vince say that Triple H will face Umaga.
We are live from Memphis, Tennessee and your announcers are Jim ‘Graceland’ Ross and Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler.
We see footage of Graceland which happens to be in Memphis. Vince and ‘his son’ Shane are dressed up like Elvis and Vince asks Shane how DX was left last week. Shane says that Shawn was ‘All Shook Up’. Shane and Vince talk about how Triple H was taken away for some illegality. Vince says that Hunter was doing the ‘Jailhouse Rock’. They also say that Shawn was at the ‘Heartbreak Hotel’. Vince talks about how Triple H will be facing Umaga tonight. Shane and Vince sing ‘Hound Dog’ and then they thank each other. There is also some security around Vince and Shane. Vince tells Shane and everyone that Elvis has left the building.
In addition to the matches on tonight’s show, we will get an update on the condition of Hulk Hogan.
Before our first match, we see footage of last week’s match where Trish Stratus pinned Mickie James after Torrie Wilson interfered as the guest referee in the tag match.
Match Number One: Trish Stratus versus Mickie James for the WWE Women’s Title
As soon as Mickie and Trish lock up, Lita and Edge come out and Edge has a mic. He tells them to stop the match and the show. Edge says that he is sick of taking a back seat because he is the WWE champion. He tells Mickie to shut up and leave because the match is officially over. Edge says that he is officially taking over Raw. He tells Trish to stay in the ring because he wants everyone to hear that he is a two time WWE champion. He says that he is sick of getting no respect. He asks if it is fair that he has to defend the title against John Cena at SummerSlam in John Cena’s hometown. If they think it is fair, then they must like that if he gets disqualified, he loses the title. Edge tells the mindless sheep that it is not fair. He says that he has to put up with more crap than any champion in the history of the company and he is sick of it.
Edge talks about the SummerSlam poster and how DX is front and center, because they have to be. He talks about how original it is for them to be holding up hot dogs. Then there is the challenger for the WWE Title on the poster. Edge says that Cena is in his natural pose looking like an idiot. Edge mentions that Trish is on the poster. He says that Batista is also on the poster before he gets injured again. Edge says that he figures he would be on the cover of the new WWE Magazine. He says that he heard the person on the cover was from Toronto, was blonde, and looks like a million bucks. He sees the cover and points out that Trish is on the cover, not him. He says that he has been bypassed by someone who has not won a match in a year. Edge says that he will prove he is a winner by beating John Cena at SummerSlam.
Lita gets on the mic and she says that the problem is that Edge has to take a back seat to a no talent slut like Trish. Lita asks Edge if she can remove the trash from the ring. Trish punches Lita but Edge pulls Trish off Lita. Lita with a spear to Trish and then Edge tells Lita to pick Trish up. Carlito comes out and he punches Edge and kicks Edge. Lita pushes Trish into Carlito as she leaves the ring. Edge returns to the ring and he spears Carlito.
Edge and Lita go to the back while a referee checks on Carlito and Trish. We go to commercial.
We are back with a commercial telling us that the Diva Search finals will be live on August 16th at 10:00 p.m. on USA.
Johnny Nitro and Melina join Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler at the announce position and Melina does her split on the announce table before sitting down by the announce table.
Jim Ross points out how there was a number one contenders match a few weeks ago that Shelton lost but Jonathan Coachman granted another match.
Match Number Two: Shelton Benjamin versus Kane in a Number One Contenders Match for the Intercontinental Title
Before Kane can bring fire from the turnbuckles, Benjamin hits a springboard bulldog for a two count. Benjamin punches Kane but Kane catches Benjamin on a float over on an Irish whip. Benjamin escapes with a rollup for a two count. Benjamin tries to slide under Kane, but Kane grabs Benjamin and tosses Benjamin into the corner. Kane with uppercuts to Benjamin. Kane with a running clothesline into the corner and then Kane with an Irish whip and side slam. Kane goes up top and he goes for the flying clothesline and he hits it. Kane sets for the choke slam, but Benjamin with a kick to the knee. Kane gets Benjamin up for a choke slam but Benjamin counters with a DDT for a two count. Benjamin punches Kane but Kane sends Benjamin into the corner. Benjamin with a drop toe hold that sends Kane into the turnbuckle. Benjamin with a move from the top turnbuckle but Kane grabs Benjamin by the throat and hits the choke slam for the three count.
Winner: Kane
Kane stares at Nitro from the ramp as we go to commercial.
We are back with footage from the Australia tour for the Raw brand. We hear comments from Matt Striker as well as seeing footage from the shows. Carlito and John Cena talk about how great the fans were.
John Cena comes out to the ring and he has something to say. Cena says that he knows the fans are riled up and he says that he does not like Edge. He comes out and says that he wants respect. Cena tells Edge that he is the WWE champion so life is not bad. Cena tells Edge that he would have been on the SummerSlam poster, but after the WWE did some market research, they found out that little children are scared by Edge. Cena says that Lita would have been on the poster, but she had a deal with 7-Eleven so people will see a sign that says ‘Slurpees for Herpes’. Then he talks about how Edge criticized the cover of the WWE Magazine. Cena says that Edge had the honor of being on the cover of the first issue of ‘CBI’. . . Crying Bitch Illustrated. We see a photo of the ‘cover’ on the TitanTron. Cena says that Edge shouldn’t complain about SummerSlam being in Cena’s home town. He would love to see SummerSlam in his home town or even in Memphis. Cena tells Edge to come out and earn it.
Edge does not come out but Vince McMahon’s Executive Assistant Jonathan Coachman comes out. He gets on the mic and he says that he is pleased to announce that Edge will not come out to answer his challenge tonight. That is because Edge is already in a match tonight. Edge will be wrestling with Lita against Carlito and Trish Stratus. Coachman says that it is obvious that Cena is hungry for some action. Coachman says that he found an opponent for Cena who is hungry . . . all the time. Viscera comes to the ring and we go to commercial.
Match Number Three: John Cena versus Viscera
Cena punches Viscera and then he tries for a sunset flip but Viscera does not go down. Viscera tries for a sit down splash but Cena moves. Viscera with a spinning heel kick. We see footage from during the commercial when Viscera hit a Samoan Drop. We return to the live action and Viscera with an Irish whip and then Viscera gets ready for the running splash into the corner and Cena goes outside the ring. Viscera yells at Lillian while Cena is out on the floor. Viscera rolls Cena back into the ring and he covers Cena but only gets a two count. Cena with a kick to Viscera followed by punches but Viscera stays on his feet. Cena tries for a cross body but Viscera catches him and Viscera hits a power slam for a two count. Viscera with a rear chin lock on Cena but Cena gets to his feet. Cena is able to power out of the hold and he kicks Viscera in the gut followed by more punches. Cena with punches to Viscera’s head and then he hits knees to Viscera followed by a leap frog neck breaker and Viscera goes down. Cena goes off the ropes and Viscera hits a Bossman Slam on Cena. Viscera rolls Cena over and he tries for a splash but Cena moves because Viscera takes too long. Cena gets Viscera up and he hits the FU for the three count.
Winner: John Cena
We are reminded about the Carlito and Trish Stratus versus Edge and Lita match before we go to a commercial for Kurt Angle versus Sabu in a number one contenders match for the ECW Title on tomorrow night’s episode of ECW on SciFi Network.
We are back with a WWE 24/7 This week in History recap as we see footage of the Showdown from Shea card from 1980, including Andre the Giant versus Hulk Hogan (with Freddie Blassie); and Bob Backlund and Pedro Morales versus the Wild Samoans to win the tag titles.
Vince McMahon tells the police officers to do their job. Shawn Michaels is looking for a fight and wants to injure ‘his son’ Shane. Shane says that Shawn wants to take ‘his father’ out. Shane says that he needs to make a phone call and one of the police officers asks if he needs an escort.
Trish and Carlito are in the back and she is fuming about Lita. Trish says that she is going ‘whoop that trick’. Trish did not like being called a slut, and then she gets some of her anger out by kissing Carlito.
Shane is in the hall and he calls out Shawn Michaels. Shane sees the Highlanders and he asks them if they have seen Shawn. Shane sees Torrie and Candice and he wonders if they have seen Shawn Michaels. Candice and Torrie hit on Shane and he tells them that he will catch up to them later. Shane walks back into the McOffice, but Shawn Michaels attacks him from behind and they fight into the McOffice. The police try to separate Shawn and Shane as we go to commercial.
We are back and Shawn Michaels is in the hall and he is trying to apologize. Shawn is told that he struck a police officer. Triple H comes by and tries to plead Shawn’s case. It does not work and Shawn is taken away by the police.
Before we get to the next match we see footage of Edge on Mind of Mencia and Edge spearing ‘Tom Cruise’ with a plug for SummerSlam. You can see it this Sunday on Comedy Central.
We also have an Earlier Tonight Moment of Lita spearing Trish and Carlito coming to make the save only to be speared by Edge.
Match Number Three: Edge and Lita versus Carlito and Trish Stratus
Carlito with a back elbow and punches to Edge. Carlito with another back elbow and he follows that with shoulders and punches in the corner. Carlito charges into a boot but Carlito stops Edge and hits a modified DDT. Edge throws Carlito into the turnbuckles and he kicks Carlito. Edge with forearms to Carlito followed by a standing drop kick for a two count. Edge chokes Carlito in the ropes and then he punches Carlito. Carlito punches back and he kicks Edge followed by a running knee lift and a clothesline. Lita is tagged in and Carlito tags in Trish. Trish with a Louise Thesz Press and Lita backs to the ropes. Trish with a series of forearms to Lita followed by a series of kicks in the corner and then she chokes Lita with her boot. Trish with an Irish whip but she charges into an elbow. Trish tries for the Handstandcanrana, but Edge holds on to Lita. Lita waits on the turnbuckles and hits a clothesline from the second turnbuckle for a two count. Lita with a rear chin lock into a sleeper. Trish gets back to her feet but Lita pulls Trish down by the hair. Lita with a knee to Trish’s abdomen and then Lita chokes Trish in the ropes. Lita with a knee to Trish’s back and then to her ribs. Trish punches back but Lita throws Trish face first into the mat and then she works on Trish’s knee by slamming it into the mat. Trish with a head scissors to Lita and then all four people are in the ring. Trish and Carlito with stereo drop kicks to Lita and Edge that sends Lita and Edge outside the ring to the floor. We go to commercial.
We are back and Edge works on Carlito’s arm. We see footage during the commercial when Lita tripped Carlito on a springboard move. Edge continues to work on the arm and has a crossface. Carlito punches back but Edge responds with a forearm. Carlito with a moonsault but Edge is not there. Carlito lands on his feet and then he tries for a lungblower but Edge holds on to the ropes. Edge with a baseball slide that sends Carlito to the floor. Lita kicks Carlito on the floor before Edge runs Carlito’s back into the apron and the action returns to the ring and Edge continues to work on Carlito’s back. Carlito with a jawbreaker followed by a springboard back elbow and both men are down while Lita and Trish want to make the tag. Both women tag in and Trish with two clotheslines followed by a drop kick and forearm. Trish with a series of chops to Lita. Lita with a kick to Trish followed by a DDT attempt but Trish counters with a spinebuster and Edge breaks up the cover. Edge holds Trish for Lita while she goes up top. Carlito pushes Edge into the ropes and Lita is crotched on the top turnbuckle. Carlito punches Edge and Irish whips him into the corner followed by a running clothesline. Trish with a handstandcanrana to Lita. Edge tries to spear Carlito, but Carlito moves and he spears Edge. Carlito and Edge fight outside the ring while Lita covers Trish for the three count.
Winners: Edge and Lita
While Edge and Lita celebrate on the ramp, Carlito checks on Trish in the ring. We go to commercial
We are back with the Smackdown Rebound and we see footage of King Booker versus the Undertaker and the return of the Great Khali.
Jim Ross is alone at the announce table because Jerry Lawler is getting ready for his match with Randy Orton. Jim Ross talks about Hulk Hogan’s knee injury. Todd Grisham announces that Hulk Hogan has a torn meniscus in his knee. The match at SummerSlam is in jeopardy. Randy Orton joins Todd and he says that Hogan is trying to avoid him and Hogan really does know best. Hogan knows that he will face the same fate as Jerry Lawler. He tells Hogan to rest up or his legend will be killed.
Ric Flair comes out and he has a book with him as well as a mic. Flair woooos for the crowd before his comments. Flair says that Cena gave Memphis props, but he was born in Memphis. Flair says that he spent ten years how to make Mick Foley stand up and be a man. He tried to figure out what makes a guy like Mick Foley tick. He says that he does not want to be like Mick Foley. He does not want to look like or dress like Mick Foley. He wants Foley to accept his challenge for SummerSlam. Someone told Flair to read Foley’s book ‘Foley is Good’. It was a best seller. Flair drops the book and then he stomps on it and drops an elbow and a rolling knee drop. Flair tells Foley that is what he thinks of his book and then he throws it into the crowd. That is everything but one page. Flair says that deep inside, Mick Foley is a fan of Ric Flair. Foley probably idolizes ‘The Naitch’. Flair reads page 169 and it is his top ten wrestling matches. Number one was Terry Funk versus Ric Flair in an ‘I Quit’ match in 1989. It wasn’t a Mankind stunt fest or a Cactus Jack bloodbath, it was Terry Funk and the Nature Boy. There must be one of two reasons. One, he does not think he can beat Flair; or two, he knows that he cannot beat Ric Flair.
Mick Foley comes out and he has a mic. Foley says that Flair is absolutely right. Foley says that he idolized Ric Flair. He was a fan and the Flair/Funk I Quit match was the greatest match that he ever saw. Ric Flair was a better wrestler than Foley ever was. Foley says that he cannot stand Flair, but if you put Ric Flair and Mick Foley in the ring, then SummerSlam has its real main event. It would bring out the best in both men. It would be a match for the ages. It would be wild and intense. It would also put Flair’s name back on the top of the mountain where it belongs. Foley says that he cannot allow that to happen. Twelve years ago, Flair was in charge of his career in WCW. Flair had the chance to make Foley’s dream come true but he stepped on his dreams. Foley mentions that it is fitting that the only thing that can stand between Flair and his dreams is Mick Foley. Foley says that in 1994, he made a vow to never do anything for Flair. He says that life is a big negotiation and he holds all of the cards. Foley says that he is not going to waste a match on a piece of crap like Flair. He tells Flair that if he does not come back with something more than a match, everyone can kiss his ass.
Flair tells Foley to be a man. Is Foley going to walk away from his king of hardcore career. Will he walk away from the thumbtacks and barbed wire that the WWE offers them. Flair suggests the greatest hardcore match of all time and it involves Ric Flair. Flair tells Foley to be a man for one more day. Flair begs Foley to accept the match.
Foley asks Flair if he expects him to go back on a vow he made when Flair was ruining his life. Foley says that for embarrassing him last week, he kicks Flair’s ass. For insulting his friend Melina, why not kick his ass. Foley says that he will face Ric Flair in an ‘I Quit’ match at SummerSlam. Foley says that he will face Flair in an I Quit Match at SummerSlam.
Foley tells them to cut his music. He tells Flair that in a career with great matches, this could be the greatest of them all. He tells Flair that it could also be his final match. Flair says that he hopes that someone bleeds to death in Boston. We go to commercial.
We are back with the Slam of the Week: Randy Orton’s Orton Knows Best segment from last week and the slap to Jerry Lawler.
Match Number Four: Randy Orton versus Jerry Lawler
Orton with a forearm to the back of Lawler’s head but Lawler responds with a slap. Orton with a kick followed by a back body drop. Orton yells at Lawler but Lawler stops short of a back body attempt and Lawler slaps Orton. Orton with a rake of the eyes followed by a standing drop kick. Orton punches Lawler followed by a rear chin lock. Lawler with an elbow followed by punches and a clothesline and slam to Orton. Lawler goes up to the second turnbuckle for a fist drop but Orton moves out of the way. Orton tries for the RKO but Lawler pushes him away. Orton collides with the referee and that allows Orton to hit a low kick followed by the RKO for the three count.
Winner: Randy Orton
We go to commercial.
We are back with footage of Jeff Hardy in action and we find out that he is coming soon.
The Diva Search Contestants are in the ring with Mike ‘The MizTake’ Mizanin. Mike points out that one of the five contestants will be eliminated tonight. Mike goes through the remaining contestants. Mike says that the fans have spoken and the contestant with the lowest vote total is Erica. Mike mentions that there is a surprise for the girls because their night is not over. They will be involved in ‘Dis the Diva’ later in the show.
It is time to run through the card for SummerSlam:
Edge versus John Cena for the WWE Title (If Edge is disqualified he will lose the title)
Mick Foley versus Ric Flair in an ‘I Quit’ Match
Hulk Hogan versus Randy Orton in a Legend versus Legend Killer Match (depending on Hogan’s condition)
DX (Shawn Michaels and Triple H) versus Vince McMahon and ‘His Son’ Shane McMahon
It is time to play ‘Dis the Diva’ and they will get twenty second to talk some smack and say why they deserve to win. Jen goes first and she says that she is agile like a cat and she purrs like a kitten. The others are alright, but she has bite and she wants to know who in Memphis wants to tame this kitty. Layla is next and she says that the other girls have nothing on her. She has more ass and body than the others. When she gets in the ring with them, she will lay them out. She says that they can kiss her ass. Milena is next and she mentions that she takes ju-jitsu and judo. What you see is what you get. She knows how to kick some ass. She knows what she is doing in the ring and she wants to earn their respect. The final contestant is JT and she says that she not need to tell everyone what she is about because she is down. You know that she is ready to go. Mike says the contestants will have a talent show on this week’s Smackdown.
We see the video package from the start of the night from last week’s edition of Raw when Umaga defeated Shawn Michaels with some help from Vince McMahon and ‘his son’ Shane. Then we see Vince whip Shawn while ‘his son’ Shane hits a super kick with a chair as well.
We then see an Earlier Tonight Moment of Shawn Michaels attacking Shane McMahon and their battle in the McOffice. Then we see Shawn being taken away by police while Hunter tries to help plead Shawn’s case.
Umaga, Armando Alejandro Estrada, Vince McMahon, and ‘his son’ Shane walk in the back and we go to commercial.
We are back and Umaga walks to the ring with Armando Alejandro Estrada, Vince McMahon, and ‘his son’ Shane McMahon. Triple H comes out next.
Match Number Five: Triple H versus Umaga
Hunter punches Umaga but Umaga fights back with a knee and punch. Hunter with more punches and he comes off the ropes but Umaga with a head butt. Hunter backs into the corner and Umaga punches Hunter and then scares the referee away. Umaga with an Irish whip but he charges into an elbow from Hunter. Hunter comes off the ropes and he kicks Umaga but Umaga shrugs it off. Umaga charges at Hunter but Hunter goes down and Umaga goes over the top rope to the floor. Hunter throws off his shirt and the action goes out of the ring for a second. They return to the ring and Hunter hits a running clothesline into the corner. Umaga hits a spinning heel kick on Hunter when Hunter charges into the corner. Umaga with a diving head butt and then he hits another one. Umaga with a seated splash onto Hunter with help from the ropes. Umaga runs Hunter’s back into the turnbuckle and then he puts Hunter in the tree of woe and Umaga with a diving head butt to Hunter’s chest. Umaga with a running ass splash to Hunter in the corner and then he goes up to the second turnbuckle for a diving head butt, but Hunter moves out of the way at the last second. Hunter gets up and he punches Umaga but Umaga does not go down. Hunger with a jawbreaker followed by a clothesline and then Umaga goes down. Shane comes into the ring and Hunter punches him. Hunter grabs Vince and Umaga charges at Hunter and Umaga hits Vince. Hunter gets Umaga set up for a Pedigree, but Umaga escapes the hold. Hunter then hits a spinebuster on a charging Umaga but Vince McMahon pulls the referee out of the ring. Shane McMahon comes into the ring and he punches Hunter. Shane does the Shane-O Shuffle, but Hunter with a spinebuster to Shane. Hunter sets up Vince for a Pedigree but Umaga hits the Samoan Spike on Hunter and the referee recovers in time to hit the three count.
Winner: Umaga
After the match, Umaga stands over Hunter while Vince is outside the ring. Shane and Vince come into the ring and join Umaga in the celebration. Umaga leaves the ring along with Estrada while Vince and ‘his son’ stay in the ring. Shane give Hunter to Vince for a Pedigree and Vince mocks Hunter’s pose. We go to credits.
