I love talking about the latest news and rumors. First, the list keeps getting longer when it comes to so many Smackdown guys being taken off TV and on the road. Second, a newly formed group on Raw is supposed to be splitting up and then finally there’s a new rumor about ECW. So let me get right to my favorite theme, GOSSIP.
Next week Kurt Angle is coming back to ECW. And I believe that RVD will be back the week after or somewhere around then. Now both of these guys were suspended for 30 days. Van Dam received the suspension when he got picked up in Ohio for having pot and Vicodin in his car and Angle for personal issues. But both will be back soon. However as most of you know, last week Bobby Lashley and Khali were taken off the card for The Great American Bash due to a high liver enzyme count. Also this past weekend Super Crazy was taken out for the same reason. Today Tatanka’s name was added. There are so many wondering if this is a case of hepatitis, or from steroids or other drugs. As of now no one seems to know the answer, or at least they aren’t sharing anything with the fans. Whatever the reason is it seems to have hit the guys on Smackdown and not Raw. Sure Chris Masters is out for what has been reported for substance abuse. But Smackdown’s roster is getting thinner and thinner. Joey Mercury like Masters is rumored to be out for substance abuse as well.
But now along with Mercury, Crazy, Tatanka, Khali and Lashley, Kid Kash and Matt Hardy are now gone for a while. As far as Matt goes, there was a one report that he was showing the high liver count, however the webmaster on Matt’s forum was very upset about this false news. According to the webmaster, Matt has had a Staph infection for a while and he’s been on antibiotics. WWE feels Matt needs to take time off to get better. So if you go by this then Matt’s absence is totally unrelated to the liver problem. And Kid Kash? He supposedly has a drug problem and along with that problem he’s also causing big problems backstage. In fact it’s that bad attitude of his that has caused him to be put on suspension. I read where he had this problem in ECW which I didn’t know but I do remember that when he was with TNA Kash publicly made his negative feelings about working for that company very clear and he made those feelings very clear quite often.
But the point is that the drug testing seems to be working. I have to hand it to Vince McMahon for sticking with it and not doing it for show. If this drug testing was stopped or not taken seriously then the group with the high enzyme counts probably would have become very ill before anything was ever discovered. And if the high counts are due to Hepatitis then treatment can begin. Just imagine if this all went undetected how many more wrestlers and staff could have caught the disease. Now if this is because of substance abuse then it’s a way to make the guys on the list aware what this is doing to their liver. So as of now the Wellness program seems to be working very well.
The Spirit Squad was told that they will be splitting up very soon. True or false? That’s another hot rumor going around. Some thought that this might happen during Monday’s Raw, but we know that wasn’t the case. Okay so here’s how this got started. Supposedly after the Raw a week ago they were told by Vince that they were going to break the group up. Now I know at the beginning many of you were not exactly thrilled with the gimmick, but the more they wrestled the more they seemed to win so many of you over. I think most of you know I liked them immediately. As lame as the gimmick seemed to be with the cheering it just fit them so well. I have always thought their ring work was very good. So I have mixed feelings about breaking them up right now. First, I think the problem with the Squad has been that week after week, month after month they have appeared in the main event against, Hunter or Shawn Michaels OR both of them. And it’s gotten kind of old. I would much prefer that they keep them in tact a little longer and let them feud with the Highlanders; well let two of them feud with them. And let the remaining members have new blood to feud with. But on the other hand, there could be a positive to splitting them up now. It certainly wouldn’t hurt to send a few of the guys over to Smackdown. Off hand Kenny would be my first pick. But maybe by sending over one or two others would give the show some much needed talent. I think showcasing these guys individually would not only give Vince and his staff an idea what they have to offer, but it would also give us an idea of just who has it and maybe who doesn’t. I don’t know if a split is coming but I read today that after Summer Slam the card for the house shows will be Kenney vs. Triple H. Maybe the end of the squad will come after Summer Slam and then again maybe it won’t.
Okay let me end with what I read yesterday. It’s not definite but it does look like ECW will have a permanent spot on the SCI FI channel. This item said that the network is very happy having ECW on there because of the ratings and all is looking very good for ECW to remain there. While I do still not love every minute of ECW there are spots that I do enjoy and I’m all for the show getting a permanent spot on SCI FI. Right now I think having the show go for only an hour is perfect; honestly I don’t think I could take a two hour show. At least not at this point. But let me say this, week after week, CM Punk has me really looking forward to his in ring début. I have been THRILLED by his mic work week after week. I mean his mic work just flows and I’m ready for him to win me over in the ring as well. Yeah there are plenty of improvements that need to be done, like not using Kelly to open the show each week. Hey did you notice how they showed a video of Kelly stripping from previous weeks? This way they edited so much out that they made it looked like this girl can STRIP. But we know differently. But back t o ECW on the SCI FI network. I’m hoping an agreement is reached. Wrestling on Tuesday night is just fine with me.
So there you have some of the latest news and rumors going around. I’ll be back over the weekend with my thoughts on Smackdown. Now before I go I want to thank two of my readers for helping me bring my computer back to life. Ivan and Marc thank you so much for the help I really appreciate you taking the time out to help me. I found out that Marc owns his own computer company called Computer Oasis. He’s located in Braintree, Mass. If there’s anyone in his area that needs help with computer repair or home or small office networking you can email Marc at Marctapp@aol.com. Listen if I lived in the area believe me I would be giving Marc a call.
