Raw was MUCH better than last week. I thought the show was not only entertaining but a lot of fun to watch. You know what? I really have nothing bad to say about anything that was on. Oh well the Diva segment stunk but other than that all was very good. It’s always nice when I don’t have to bitch about what I watched. I want to say that the San Antonio, TX. crowd or maybe I should call them the Degenerates from San Antonio were very good. Especially the way they reacted to Triple H and their hometown guy Shawn Michaels. So let me start off with DX.
I was amazed and just so happy to see the crowd reaction for DX. Not only were the pops LOUD but the place was covered with DX signs. You could tell it had a nice affect on Shawn Michaels and Triple H. I thought Shawn looked so much more at ease with the whole DX gimmick because of his hometown crowd. DX kept it clean last night but I still found that they added a lot to the show. The humor was still there. When Shawn made fun of the Miz by pretending to read WWE.COM off his wrist I could not stop laughing that was GOLD. Last week we got two minutes of Hunter and Michaels and last night we got a lot more and I really believe because of that the show didn’t have that dull feeling like last week’s Raw.
I want to say that Carlito and Shelton Benjamin gave all of us a very good match last night. Again Carlito looked outstanding in there and the more he gets to wrestle the better he looks. Shelton Benjamin always comes through and I just wish they would push Benjamin as one of the top heels and give him some mic time. Granted he’s not the best talker, but you can just see that Benjamin is not exactly getting a nice push like he was when Mama was there. But back to the match. Carlito won the number one contender shot for the IC title against Johnny Nitro which was not a big surprise. And he won by cheating and holding the ropes to beat Shelton. But hey he’s a face and I know I didn’t mind that.
I also didn’t mind the women’s tag team match with Torrie and Trish vs. Mickie James and Victoria. Oh what a surprise WWE remembered Mickie James. It was nice to see her back on TV. And it’s funny how Victoria was on too since she’s been AWOL from Raw for weeks. And I’m not counting here few minutes on the SNME show. This was a fun match and I guess it’s official that referee Candice has turned face. I saw that coming several weeks ago when she tagged with Mickie and after the win Mickie got rough with her. I watch Trish each week and with the rumors gong around that she’s leaving sometime in August or September it just makes me feel bad because she has come so far and I will really miss her. But who knows maybe she will re-sign and stay with WWE.
Mick Foley’s two appearances were good not great but good. I still loved his segment last week and I guess that one will be hard to top. I did like watching him taunt Ric Flair by refusing a rematch; I think this storyline is being done so well. And then you have Ric going ballistic because of Foley’s refusal. Flair and Foley are working off each other so very well. I was surprised to see Johnny Nitro and Melina come out during Flair’s segment, but then again I guess since Mick is smitten with Melina it did make sense to send them out to harass Flair. By the way how bad did Melina look last night? I hope we never EVER see that hairstyle again, she looked anything but sexy. Two guys that are definitely anything but sexy but are fun to watch are the Highlanders. I’m telling you just from that dark match that I saw with them the night after Wrestlemania these guys can wrestle and I think once they feud with the Spirit Squad all of you will see just how good they are. Eugene’s character died a long time ago and his match with Randy Orton was nothing, however it was Orton’s short promo dealing with Hulk Hogan and Brook Hogan that I liked. It was short and to the point and Randy’s little comments toward Brooke just fit his character perfectly. I am really starting to get back into Orton’s character and this feud is really helping me do that.
Okay sometimes I amaze myself. Why? I’ll tell you why. Because I thought the John Cena/Umaga match was very good, and believe me when I read that this was set up for Raw I was anything but happy. I don’t remember Umaga looking this good in his match a few months ago against Shawn Michaels. But last night not only did he come across well, but so did Cena. You know it’s really funny but ever since ECW started Cena has really taken some major abuse, and last night was no exception. I’m talking about his little trip into Matt Striker’s chalkboard by Umaga. The Cena/Striker interaction before the match was okay, but as many of you know I don’t like the Striker character at all, but at least it was short. But the match was my match of the night. And I figured Edge would interfere which he did but I thought that Cena would win on a DQ. I really didn’t expect Umaga to keep his win streak going. I guess he owes Edge a big thank you. This was all booked so well and hey Umaga gets props from me today.
And back to DX. I liked the main event with Shawn Michaels with Triple H in Michaels corner vs. Shane McMahon with his dad in his corner. Yeah it’s been done before but I like watching these two in the ring. My only complaint is that I was thrilled the Spirit Squad was not around and when they did show up at the end I could have done without that. However, let me say a few things. I was really into this match and when Vince interfered with Shawn and ran from Hunter, and Hunter chased Vince, I was yelling to my husband “it’s a trap, it’s a trap.†See how involved I get? And I think like many are saying on the net the Squad needs to finally get the upper hand on DX because they keep going down week after week. But even with that I enjoyed the main event and the sledgehammer.
Wow a good Raw and now I’m ready for ECW which don’t forget is on an hour later tonight. Can the Undertaker put on a super match like Ric Flair did last week against Big Show? I sure hope so. Will Kelly Kelly still have that blank stare and not be able to keep a beat? I sure hope not. And will Test make some new facial expressions? GOD I HOPE SO. I’m afraid if he doesn’t his face could freeze and that’s wouldn’t be a good thing. Okay seriously, I have been reading that the ECW house shows are coming off so much better than what we are getting on TV. I would love to see Vince give us at least some of what they are getting at the live shows. I would like to think all of you that helped my reader out Sunday with the name of the song for Jericho. He got a lot of responses and so did I, thank you so much. I have another reader request for you. He would like to know if any one has any WCW tapes that they would like sell. If you do you can contact him at, tbsmith@intercorp.com.
