Jeremy Borash and the lovely Christy Hemme were your hosts for tonight’s 30-minute preshow leading into the “Victory Road” Pay-Per-View.
PRESHOW:
JOHNNY DEVINE vs. SHARK BOY
Our opening contest of the night took place during the preshow as it featured the cult favourite, Shark Boy taking on The Paparazzi’s own, Johnny Devine who was accompanied to the ring by Alex Shelley – the director of The Paparazzi Productions. Shark Boy led the match for the early going by grounding Devine in the corner. Shark Boy would continue his relentless attack with a big bite, but that would only fuel Devine to come back harder with some swift shots, and finally a leg drop across Shark Boy’s neck. Johnny Devine would ultimately send out some Devine Intervention on Shark Boy with a double-arm spike drop for the win, but it came to be after Alex Shelley momentarily distracted the referee.
Winner: Johnny Devine
Backstage, Rhino told the viewing audience that he said what he said and did what he did this past Thursday on “iMPACT!” because it came from his heart. He sent out an extreme challenge and Jim Cornette answered with signing a match that will see him fight “The Alpha Male” Monty Brown tonight. Rhino said he would be letting Monty taste his fist, and then guaranteed blood tonight!
It was now time to kick off the paid portion of Victory Road 2006 with some tag team action!
THE NATURALS (CHASE STEVENS & ANDY DOUGLAS) w/ SHANE DOUGLAS vs. THE DIAMONDS IN THE ROUGH (ELIX SKIPPER & DAVID YOUNG) w/ SIMON DIAMOND
Before the match got underway, Shane Douglas spoke before the crowd and stated that we wouldn’t see The Naturals again until they’re ready to fight under The Franchise’s wing, and tonight they’re ready for war – they are the newly “franchised” Naturals!
Supporting new gear, Chase Stevens began action against David Young with pure aggression. Andy Douglas would later seek action against Elix Skipper upon returning the tag to Chase in this quick paced tag team match.
For a brief moment, it looked as if The Diamonds In The Rough were going to close in on The Naturals and win the bout with their double-team momentum, on Chase Stevens in the ring. However, not even a double-sledge from the top rope could stop Chase from tagging in his partner Andy Douglas. He delivered a high knee to David Young, and then a double under-hook driver onto Elix Skipper. They wanted to make Shane Douglas proud tonight as Chase elevated Skipper high into the air on his shoulders as Andy Douglas dropkicked him down for the win!
Winners: The Naturals
After the match however, we saw the opposite of what we expected. Shane Douglas wasn’t happy with their performance; he wants perfection and nothing less! The Naturals wandered back to the locker room area along with “The Franchise” Shane Douglas.
Backstage, Christian Cage brought out a generalized question sent to him from the fans and it asked, “What happened to the old Christian Cage?” – Cage responded by saying the old Christian Cage took a sabbatical, but tonight he’s back!
“THE WAR MACHINE” RHINO vs. “THE ALPHA MALE” MONTY BROWN
This fight began in an all out war fashion outside of the ring during Rhino’s entrance to the ring. Monty elevated Rhino that would see him landing into the guardrail neck first. Back into the ring, The Alpha Male continued his dominance but an attempted Pounce would miss Rhino and instead hit referee Andrew Thomas. That didn’t matter though, the two beasts continued to brawl, with Rhino sling-shooting himself outside of the ring overtop of Monty, sending him down to the ground.
Later on in the fight, Monty Brown tried to revive the referee but you should never turn your back to a ring warrior like Rhino. So Rhino was measured, but Monty bailed and yet again referee Andrew Thomas took a blow, this time the GORE! Talk about being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Security was now in full force protecting the crowd as the fight between The Alpha Male and The War Machine was taken amongst the fans. The match had to be thrown out as a result when TNA officials had lost complete control over the situation.
Winner: No-Contest
THE LATIN AMERICAN EXCHANGE (HOMICIDE & HERNANDEZ) w/ KONNAN vs. RON “THE TRUTH” KILLINGS & SONJAY DUTT
Entering the ring across the border from LAX territory, Homicide began the match with a suicidal slingshot dive to the outside on Sonjay Dutt; with Ron Killings following overtop with a back flip! Chaos was unleashed early on with competitive action between Ron Killings and Homicide as the two counteracted each other with moves and holds upon attempted pinfalls.
It was now Hernandez’s turn in the ring as he was able to overpower Sonjay Dutt, using his size against him. As time went on, Konnan would certainly play a role in doing his dirty work on Sonjay Dutt outside of the ring as Homicide purposely got into a scuffle with Ron Killings who wasn’t tagged in, only to turn the refs attention to that situation.
In the end, Konnan would hit Sonjay Dutt with the slapjack as Hernandez then picked him up over his shoulders and threw him across the ring, nearly landing straight on his head. It was academic from there – LAX got the win.
Winners: Homicide & Hernandez
We now had a moment to take a look at Team Canada together in the ring for the very last time as Scott D’Amore reluctantly stated. Petey Williams, the captain of Team Canada, along with Bobby Roode, Eric Young, and A1 stood in awe as the fans sang the world’s famous good-bye song as Scott D’Amore continued to whine and moan.
Bobby Roode was given high praise by D’Amore, and even went as far as calling him a future NWA World Heavyweight Champion. Petey Williams was described to be a son, and that’s why D’Amore named him the captain of Team Canada. A1 was everything Scott D’Amore needed, and that was muscle for Team Canada. As the members left, not one gave Eric the respect he wanted when the left for the back.
Eric then expected to at least get the respect from Scott D’Amore, but that wasn’t the case. He blamed Eric for the demise of Team Canada. Ultimately, D’Amore said Eric was going to be fired by TNA management because of it. D’Amore demanded Eric to then hand over his Team Canada jacket and Team Canada pants because there is no more Team Canada. Eric obeyed D’Amore’s last orders and handed over the clothing.
Once D’Amore left for the back, Eric Young then came up with a secret with the resounding fans. They were going to start a “Don’t Fire Eric” petition!
It was then announced that the second annual “Bound For Glory” spectacular will be hitting the road this October when TNA travels to Motor City, USA live and exclusively on Pay-Per-View!
TNA X-DIVISION TITLE MATCH:
SENSHI (c) vs. FRANKIE KAZARIAN
It was the return of the former two-time X-Division Champion, Frankie Kazarian as he was getting the chance at picking up a third reign as champion against Senshi. It was really a match of technician in the early going as the two competitors kept the match grounded.
Kazarian would be the one elevating the bout to their feet as he was able to snap off some high impact moves, but not hard enough to take out Senshi for the time being. Kazarian, who was supporting a new short haircut, was now taking a beating from the mixed martial arts star, Senshi with corkscrew elbow drops and kicks.
It looked like it was all over for Frankie Kazarian once he took a sniff kick to his chin and then a quick snap release kick by Senshi to the back of his neck. Kazarian was showing every will to stay in the game with a kick out and reverse in offense now in his favour as he perfectly planted some high knees and kicks to Senshi. This match tempo was truly a different dimension to the X-Division, as we saw high impact moves being unleashed by both competitors.
It was now Senshi’s turn to take a near fall when Kazarian from the opposite side of the ropes leaped over and hit off a swinging DDT. Senshi wasn’t ready to give up his X-Division Title though as he then charged Frankie into the corner with a double foot shot and then The Warriors Way from the top rope across Kazarian’s chest for the win.
Winner & STILL TNA X-Division Champion: Senshi
HAIR VS. HAIR MATCH:
RAVEN vs. LARRY ZBYSZKO
The referee for this important match was none other than Mark “Slick” Johnson, who immediately got in Larry Z’s face by tripping him as he went running towards Raven. The two got into a pushy scuffle, but it was then Larry vs. Raven one on one finally for the first time in TNA history. The two have been in each other’s faces for over a year now, and the ultimate humiliation both would like to avenge on each other is a head shaving.
Zbyszko to many people’s surprise was able to withstand Raven in the early going, but once the referee was knocked down, Raven lost the chance at winning this fight early on after a Raven Effect DDT. Raven didn’t complain though, he continued the match with every intention of winning and that he did about a minute later with another Raven Effect DDT.
Winner: Raven
After the match, Larry tried scramming to the back but security was on hand to carry him back to the barber chair. Raven made sure he would stay put in the chair by duck taping him into position. Raven was given the shears and began balding Zbyszko with his own hands – the ultimate humiliation in this business!
KEVIN NASH & ALEX SHELLEY w/ JOHNNY DEVINE vs. CHRIS SABIN & JAY LETHAL
Shelley and Sabin began the match by putting on a wrestling clinic, but once Sabin began to be to heavy for Alex he made to tag to his partner in crime, “Big Sexy” Kevin Nash. He was matched against Jay Lethal and made good attempts of adapting to the X-Division style; however, his knees that have had some 13 surgeries were not on the same page, they buckled once Nash tried to be acrobatic and that led to the decision of tagging Alex Shelley back in the ring.
Alex Shelley and Kevin Nash were working pretty well as a team. Nash had his boot ready above the ropes, and Shelley used that boot for Lethal’s head. The two then began working on Lethal in the corner as Sabin with no other choice had to watch the game plan of Nash and Shelley come into tuition.
Chris Sabin eventually got that tag back into the ring and he immediately took Nash out by the knees and then had Alex Shelley hung upside down in the corner. Sabin then used Kevin Nash how was on his knees as an elevation tool to help him drill Shelley with a hesitated drop kick. Johnny Devine tried answering back for his teammates but Jay Lethal took him out as Chris Sabin managed to pin Shelley for the win.
Winners: Chris Sabin & Jay Lethal
After the match, Kevin Nash was left alone in the ring with Sabin and Lethal. He tried beating them down but the quick and agile X-Division stars were too much for Mr. Nash. However, it seems like once Alex Shelley and Johnny Devine are there to take over, then that’s when Kevin Nash can have his way with Chris Sabin, Jay Lethal, or any X-Division star for that matter. TNA road agent and X pioneer Jerry Lynn came down and had seen enough. He then presumed by throwing down his agent badge and laid out the challenge!
This next match was going to showcase nothing but “violence” as Brother Ray told the viewing audience backstage!
TEAM 3D (BROTHER RAY, BROTHER DEVON, & BROTHER RUNT) vs. THE JAMES GANG (BG JAMES & KIP JAMES), & “THE MONSTER” ABYSS
In the early goings of this match, it was Brother Runt who wanted the tag from Devon once he saw Abyss was standing in the ring. It looked like a monster against a little kid, and once Abyss elevated Runt up for the big drop he made the smart decision of tagging in his brother, Ray.
Midway through the match, Abyss threw Brother Runt straight into the crowd and surprisingly the fans caught Runt and began surfing him back to the ring area! He and Abyss continued their all out brawl for supremacy. The James Gang continued their war against Brother Ray and Devon, with weapons getting involved!
Back into the ring, Brother Ray found a sign that read “ECW fears TNA” and Ray took it immediately to staple on Abyss’ head with much approval from the fans! The celebration by Team 3D was cut short when BG and Kip came in – reminding them that the match isn’t over yet! A table was then setup by The James Gang in the middle of the ring and it would later be used by Abyss to send Brother Runt threw for the win once Brother Ray and Devon were taken out of the equation by Kip James and BG.

NWA WORLD TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH:
AJ STYLES & CHRISTOPHER DANIELS (c) & SIRELDA vs. AMERICA’S MOST WANTED (CHRIS HARRIS & JAMES STORM), & GAIL KIM
America’s Most Wanted against AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels was hard-hitting and competitive in the early going, but then Gail Kim was tagged in. She wanted Sirelda and The Fallen Angel answered the call with a tag. Gail decided to back down however and tag in “Cowboy” James Storm. He seemed afraid to face Sirelda though, so he tagged in Chris Harris who began to mock Sirelda like Storm was for a brief time. AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels had seen enough and tags were thrown out the window for the time being as the two teams brawled for what seemed like an endless amount of time – just a display of the pure hatred between both teams.
Once law and order was once again instilled in this match, America’s Most Wanted with Gail Kim were back in control by using their manipulative cheating tactics in angering Daniels and Sirelda by keeping AJ in their corner for the beat down. AJ though was able to come back with an inverted DDT on James Storm and finally make the tag to Christopher Daniels. He was able to clean house but he forgot one person – TNA Knockout, Gail Kim. She raked the eyes of The Fallen Angel with her fingers to take him out of commission for a short while, but Sirelda was there for the revenge on Gail, before taking a brutal spear from Chris Harris.
Later AJ Styles stopped Harris on the top rope from jumping down on Daniels for the Death Sentence, but on the other side of the ring was Gail Kim who decided to hit the Death Sentence with James Storm for a near fall. Sirelda would later take more punishment, this time a superkick from James Storm, followed with the Eye of the Storm on AJ Styles. America’s Most Wanted were close numerous times from becoming the 7-time NWA World Tag Team Champions but it just wasn’t going to happen on this night – but that was okay for the fans! They wanted AJ Styles, Christopher Daniels, & Sirelda to get the win and that they did when Chris Harris’ plan backfired with the steel chair shot that mistakenly hit James Storm with the blind hit. AJ Styles went for the pin and got the win.

ROAD TO VICTORY #1 CONTENDER’S MATCH:
CHRISTIAN CAGE vs. STING vs. “BIG POPPA PUMP” SCOTT STEINER vs. “THE SAMOAN SUBMISSION MACHINE” SAMOA JOE
The bell rang and Sting went at Samoa Joe immediately while Christian Cage and Scott Steiner fought to the outside. During the fight between Samoa Joe and Sting, it was Joe initially in control with a one arm scoop slam in the corner but then Sting to smart and worked on Samoa Joe’s legs and locked in the Scorpion Death Lock early on. Scott Steiner broke it up though, and was later sent out of the ring by Christian Cage as now Cage and Joe went face to face in the ring and exchanged punches. Joe got really physical with Christian in the ring; he delivered several stiff kicks and then the corner boot that took out Cage.
Sting was taken out of action during his brawl in the ring with Scott Steiner when Jeff Jarrett came into the ring dressed like a cameraman and sprayed gasoline in Sting’s eyes. How low will the NWA World Heavyweight Champion go to exact as much pain and trouble for Sting as he possibly can?
It became a triple threat match between Christian Cage, Samoa Joe and Scott Steiner. The three were all vying for that shot against Jeff Jarrett next month at Hard Justice for the NWA World Heavyweight Title. For Christian Cage he feels like he still owns that title and it was evident when he gave Joe a taste of his own medicine with some face washes in the corner to Joe. The running boot by Christian in parallel to Joe’s usual running boot was not executed though as Steiner from the outside caught Cage’s legs and dragged him down.
Anyway they can inflict pain is okay for these competitors as long as they win, so Samoa Joe brought out a table to use on Steiner but it reversed with Big Poppa Pump nailing an elbow drop on Joe through the table.
Moments later in the ring, Christian Cage measured Steiner for the Unprettier but Steiner countered with a belly-to-belly suplex followed with the Steiner Recliner. Samoa Joe came right behind with the Rear Naked Choke. While in execution Samoa Joe caught eye of Christian Cage on the top rope and attempted to hit the Muscle Buster but Steiner prevented that and in came Sting!
Sting was back with half his face wrapped in bandage from the gasoline poured on his face by Jarrettt, and even injured and hurt by Jarrett he managed to pull off a Scorpion Death Drop on Jarrett’s ally Scott Steiner for the win and rights to face Jeff Jarrett next month at the “Hard Justice” Pay-Per-View on August 13 for the NWA World Heavyweight Title!
