The main event for the first ever ROH UK tour show in Liverpool on Saturday August 12th has today been announced. ROH World Champion Bryan Danielson will face the England’s own ROH Pure Champion Nigel McGuiness. This will not be the first confrontation between these two men but this time the stakes are at an all time high, with this being the main event of the company’s first ever European show the pressure will be on both men to walk out the victor. The two have already met in an ROH ring. In what many considered an upset McGuiness beat Danielson on April 29th via count out in an amazing Title Vs Title match that had fans on their feet. The loss is considered “The American Dragons†first unsuccessful title defence to date. This added to the fact that McGuiness beat former World title holder Samoa Joe, who many still consider a better champion that Danielson, to become the Pure Champ has now forced many insiders to believe that the Brit may be the better man.
Each man has a huge amount of experience on UK sole with both doing lengthy tours for Brian Dixon’s All-Star wrestling over the last few years but neither have been involved in a match so big on UK soil. Simply being in the main event of ROH’s first ever overseas tour could arguably be considered the biggest match of McGuiness’s career from a personal achievement standpoint but one must believe that the Pure champion has no intention of losing in such a high profile match in his own country. As for Danielson, his quest to go down in history as the greatest ROH World champion of all time would surely come to premature end if he were to be stopped here.
The plot thickens……….. One thing that ROH officials are assuring us is that after weeks of speculation, this match is not yet complete and that management will announce something else to really make this a historic match for the company. We are unsure exactly what this means but there are several possible options we should explore.
Firstly no stipulation has been announced for the contest as of yet. With both men holding the companies two top singles titles we could see a Title Vs Title match. After the disappointing count out result last time though perhaps ROH management are working on a plan to make sure this doesn’t happen again and a unified champion is crowned? This would arguably make it the most historic match in ROH title history as such a feat has never been achieved in ROH previously.
The two men will face each other just week’s earlier at the site of their last confrontation in Cleveland on July 29th exactly three months to the day since they first fought each other. Could this, in some way, be what ROH management are holding out for before making their announcement? A win for either man here could potentially change the shape of the fourth coming Liverpool match dramatically.
Then again maybe it has something to do with the man who has held both Pure and World titles previously, Samoa Joe. For anyone who has been living in a cave for the last few months on August 5th, just one week before the Liverpool contest, the Samoan independent wrestling superstar finally has his incredibly anticipated confrontation with the current ROH World Champion Bryan Danielson. Should Danielson lose then could Joe be making a one night only appearance in Liverpool? He is scheduled to appear for TNA the next evening but after looking into it further he could very easily get a flight back to the US to make it in time for his Pay Per View bout the following night.
Even if “The Dragon†was to beat Joe on August 5th, what shape would the current ROH World Champion be in? Just 7 days after what will surely be one of the most physical matches of his career against a man who is out to maintain his legacy of the greatest Ring Of Honor Champion of all time. Even if a battered and bruised Bryan Danielson makes it to Liverpool with the World title, how will he fair against the man who already holds a win over him? If ROH management make the decision to put the World title on the line in Liverpool then things could really get difficult for the main trained by wrestling legend Shawn Micheals. With this huge advantage in his pocket could we see Nigel McGuiness walking out of Liverpool as the first ever British ROH World Champion? Not only would this be a fitting start to it’s first ever UK tour date but an Englishman being crowned the first ever ROH world champion in England would also make company history.
Whatever ever ROH management have in store for us on Saturday August 12th on thing is for sure. No Ring of Honor fan will want to miss it!

ROH stars honoured at UK wrestler reunion
ROH World Champion Bryan Danielson and Colt Cabana will be honoured at the 2006 UK wrestler’s reunion. The annual event, which attracts fans and wrestlers from around the globe, is the most respected of its kind in Europe. In an unprecedented move Ring of Honour ambassadors Danielson and Cabana will be honoured for their love and dedication to the UK and its style of wrestling whilst flying the flag in the US and around the world. Both men have left their native country of America to spend prolonged periods in the UK in an attempt to learn the British style of wrestling over the last 3 years. As a result both men are now considered two of the best young wrestlers in the world by the fans and their peers alike.
Spokesman for the reunion Frank Rimmer said yesterday “Even though the reunion has always been about remembering the legends of yesteryear it has become increasingly import to us to introduce new fans to what British Wrestling was and in many cases still is about. Both Bryan and Colt have worked harder than almost all I can think of in the last 5 years to learn our art and expose fans overseas to what makes British wrestling so special. They are both truly great ambassadors for not only their country but for the British style and for that the reunion and its members feel’s it is only right to reward them on August 13th and show our appreciation to them just like they have spent the last few years showing their appreciation usâ€
He continued “Ring of Honour is all about wrestling and is the closet thing the US has to the old World of Sport style. We are flattered that the company itself and its biggest stars are so respectful of the UK style and its wrestlers. To see today’s top names idolising wrestlers that were wrestling before most of them were even born is so encouraging for all of us who wish to keep the heritage of the UK scene alive todayâ€
ROH spokesperson Alex Shane commented “This is a huge honour for both the wrestlers in question and ROH itself. This speaks volumes about the fact the Ring of Honor really is a wrestling company that wrestling fans and wrestlers alike, new and old, can be proud of. What a great way to finish off such an exciting weekend in the UK.â€
The awards will be handed to them by hero’s of Cabana and Danielson, Jonny Kid and Jonny Saint respectively. Other stars on hand will include “Rollerball†Mark Rocco, Mick McManus, Pete Roberts, Wayne Bridges, Robbie Brookside, Mal Sanders, Ringo Rigby, “Goldbelt†Brian Maxine, Klondyke Kate, “Butcher†Dave Bond, Bobby Barnes, Mitzi Mueller, Dave Prowse OBE (Darth Vader in Star Wars) and over 350 other guests from the world of wrestling old and new.

ROH August 13th Broxbourne event SOLD OUT
The closing leg of the Ring of Honor UK tour in Broxbourne Civic Hall has now officially sold out. The venue, which holds just under 600 fans, had already required the inclusion of additional seating for the highly anticipated event. Yet even this was not enough to house the number of fans who wanted to attend this event.
The news was received by head of European Marketing and Promotion Alex Shane this past week. Shane, who has run events with the FWA at the venue since 2001 said “I have never seen a wrestling event sell out at Broxbourne a good two months before the date itself has even taken place. The support UK fans have shown for Ring of Honor in the UK has been something that myself and the rest of the company have been completely overwhelmed by. We were all fairly certain of a Broxbourne sell out on the day but none of us could have predicted it so soon.â€
His sentiments were also shared by venue manager Tony Driver. Driver added “We are all amazed that an event with not a single bit of local promotion has drawn such a response. The venue allocation of tickets had almost completely gone in the first 2 days and not even the addition of extra seating has helped us keep up with demandâ€. He continued “We are still taking calls for tickets now and for the first time I can recall we are telling fans, sorry but we are completely sold out!â€
ROH owner Cary Silkin told us yesterday “Ring of Honor would like to thank our UK fans for making this possible and promise that you that we will do everything we can to reward the support you have shown us on this tour. We would also like to apologise to any fans that could not get tickets in time but would like to remind you that you still have the chance to see ROH live on the opening night of the tour in Liverpool. We are all extremely pumped up for this weekendâ€
There are still seats left for the opening night on Saturday August 12th at the Liverpool Olympia but fans are urged to purchase their tickets now to avoid disappointment as only limited numbers remain.
You can purchase these tickets on line at www.rohwrestling.com
Or by calling the venue box office on 0151 263 6633
