Last week I had a close call with having to eat a colossal size meal of crow.
You see at the last minute I had to call the editor and ask him to pull the article because I had slammed the local police force for not enforcing the law which states business can not open on statutory holidays.
As many of you know all but one grocery store were closed on Canada Day allowing their staff to enjoy the country’s birthday like everyone else, but that one grocer could have made an impact which would affect all of us down the road. Rightfully, the Orangeville Police acted on the law and investigated the store.
Now you ask me saying Mike, how does the fact a grocery store opening on Canada Day affect me?
Well it is simple really, It starts with them opening the store one year, then all the other s t o r e s have to f o l l o w suit to keep up with the competition.
Soon all the stores are open. When all the stores are open, they will need to be supplied, then the suppliers will need buyers and on and on, so you see if we don’t stop the stores from opening now, it WILL affect us all down the road.
By the way, I did do some research prior to last weeks article and when I first spoke to the sergeant on duty for the holiday he informed me that he had no plans on enforcing the law in regards to the business opening on Canada Day. I applaud the Police Chief on his decision to step in and enforce the closing law. Good work sir.
AROUND THE RING… The developing story line between Randy Orton and Hulk Hogan is said to go like this, Orton will battle and go over Hogan at Summer Slam. They will pick up the feud again and Hogan will gain victory at a future pay per view, possibly Survivor Series. There is also talk that the WWE will introduce Harry Smith into the mix as Brook Hogan’s loving boyfriend. As you may recall Smith recently signed a deal with the WWE and is the son of the late Davey Boy Smith… Word is that the reason RVD dropped both the WWE and ECW titles last week was punishment for him and Sabu getting charged with possession of marijuana after being pulled over the prior Sunday driving home from an event in Ohio… Reports say that Trish Stratus will be getting married in the coming year and may not re-sign with the WWE… There is talk that Drew Hankinson(Imposter Kane) will be repackaged and sent to Smackdown… There is word that Terry Taylor is trying to get TNA talent to sign long term contracts with the company now… Apparently the WWE has offered Lance Storm a deal to return and wrestle for ECW. However, it looks like Storm is enjoying his retirement and will decline the offer… Kurt Angle is taking some time off to heal some nagging injuries… Sources close to the couple say that Triple H and Stephanie McMahon are expecting their first child around July 27th… After resigning David Heath(Gangrel) to a contract, the WWE may now drop the idea of using a vampire type group in ECW because in their eye’s Heath has gained to much weight and is out of shape.
I bumped into an old friend this week, Brandon Porter otherwise known as Solid Shawn Gold. We wrestled together for several years with the PWE and he was cruiserweight champion the same time as I carried the heavyweight title. Brandon is an Orangeville native and still works locally. We reminisce about the early days of the PWE and how it was probably the best dressing room in the independent scene. The guys all got along and all worked to make the company better. He said he would love to return to the ring but would find it hard to squeeze time in for the training. His favourite guy to work was another fan favourite, Kid Krazy, who wowed audiences with his high flying style.
