WWE Vengeance (RAW) PPV Results – 6/25/06

– “The Power Is Back” WWE promo hits. Following this, a video package airs highlighting Vengeance tonight involving John Cena’s match with Sabu tonight in an Extreme Lumberjack Match, Rob Van Dam defending the WWE Championship against Edge and DX’s tag team return tonight when they take on The Spirit Squad.
– A graphic opening hits welcoming us to WWE Vengeance. We then go live to Charlotte, North Carolina where a huge display of pyro goes off in the entrance area. A live shot of the crowd in Charlotte is shown as we go to Jim Ross and Jerry “The King” Lawler at ringside. King hopes the WWE Championship comes home tonight. They pass it on to the Spanish Announce Team also at ringside.
– Randy Orton‘s music hits as he comes out to kick off the first match.
– Randy Orton defeated Kurt Angle. Match was very slow paced for the first 10 minutes or so. Crowd reacted here and there. Picked up at the 15 minute mark with lots of overhead belly-to-belly suplexes by Angle on Orton. Angle hit close to 8 german suplexes in a row on Orton. The finish saw Orton expose the top turnbuckle early on in the match, Angle had an ankle lock on Orton, Orton countered forward and Angle hit it face first. Orton hit the RKO on Angle and got the pinfall.
– Backstage, Vince McMahon was talking on his cell phone about how “Vengeance” will be his tonight against DX. A kid in a wheel chair rolls in and McMahon assumes it is a joke from DX since the kid has a DX t-shirt on. He wheels the kid out of the office and he screams crashing into something. The Coach comes in and says he heard DX was hanging around his office tonight. McMahon says the joke was just on DX. Coach lets McMahon know that a close personal friend of his is coming to the PPV tonight and that he is a huge fan of his. Coach says the kid is in a wheel chair. McMahon has a shocked look on his face as Coach leaves.
– Umaga defeated Eugene. Before the match, Eugene brought Hacksaw Jim Duggan, Doink the Clown and Kamala out to ringside with him. It ended with Umaga hitting the spike to the throat on Eugene and getting the pinfall. After the match, Umaga took out Duggan and Doink the Clown. He was held back by Armando Alejandro Estrada and Umaga stared down Kamala as he left.
– Backstage, Todd Grisham was with Mick Foley. Foley, getting booed, read from Ric Flair’s book and how Flair talked about how when he trained to become a wrestler that he didn’t train to fall of a ladder or go through tables. Foley said he will out wrestle Flair tonight in front of his hometown of Charlotte.
– Ric Flair defeated Mick Foley in a 2 out of 3 Falls Match. Ric Flair won the first fall with a quick inside cradle. Foley argued with the referee that it was a two count. The second fall saw Foley get DQ’ed for hitting Flair with a trash can, so Flair wins the match. After the match, Foley brought a bat wrapped in barbed wire in the ring and took out Flair with it. Flair was busted open as Foley dug it into the face of Flair some more. Flair was covered in blood as WWE referees hit the ring to break it up. The fans chanted “FOLEY SUCKS” as a bloody Flair was helped to the back.
– A promo for the WrestleMania 22 DVD airs.
– Backstage, Maria was with Carlito. She brought up a “cool paradox” scenario with Carlito. Carlito said he didn’t know what she was talking about. He added that nothing would be cooler than for him to win the Intercontinental Title tonight. Torrie Wilson walked up in a bikini and said she needed some help putting baby oil all over her body for a photo shoot. Wilson asked Carlito to hold her “puppies.” She handed Carlito her dogs. Carlito provided some commentary as Torrie and Maria rubbed oil on their bodies. His music hit in the arena and he was angry that he had to leave.
– Johnny Nitro defeated Shelton Benjamin & Carlito in a Triple Threat Match to become the NEW WWE Intercontinental Champion. First part of the match was Benajamin and Carlito as Nitro looked on from the outside after he was thrown out. Carlito hit an impressive springboard dive from the top rope to the outside on Benjamin and Nitro. Carlito had his A game on tonight with another impressive huricanranna on Nitro. Another impressive spot in the corner with Nitro flipping up onto the shoulders of Benjamin and Nitro hitting the corner. Nitro hit a monkey flip on Benjamin from the corner and when Benjamin flipped up Carlito hit him with a big dropkick. Another big spot on the top rope with all three men tumbling off and Nitro hanging back in the tree of woe. If you don’t watch TNA, that was new to you. The finish saw Carlito hit the backcracker on Benjamin, but Nitro pulled Carlito out of the ring and covered Benjamin for the pinfall.
– Backstage, The Spirit Squad was getting pumped up to “destroy” DX when Vince McMahon walks up. He asks them how they could fall for DX’s pranks last Monday on RAW. McMahon said nobody makes a fool out of The Spirit Squad and Mr. McMahon. He called DX a social disease and compared them to bird flu. The Spirit Squad left and McMahon looked at the bathroom and at the “enlarger pump” DX left for him. He picked it up, smiled and went into the bathroom. When the door closed an explosion went off. McMahon opened the door and his face was covered in green paint. He added, “Damn that DX.”
– A video package rolls highlighting the WWE Championship Match tonight with Rob Van Dam defending against Edge.
– Rob Van Dam defeated Edge to retain the WWE Championship. Before the match, Edge got on the mic and said it was joke that RVD has the WWE Title since he has nothing to do with WWE, just like Carolina having a Stanley Cup since Canadians won it for them. He promised a title win tonight and that he would have another “sex celebration” with Lita, only it wouldn’t be like how the people in North Carolina do it since they aren’t brother and sister. Lilian Garcia referred to RVD as “The Champion” during his entrance. RVD and Edge did lots of impressive spots together such as Edge dodging some sweep kicks from RVD and RVD following that up with a big takedown. They did another spot where RVD flipped over Edge, Edge missed a cross-body and RVD followed that up with a quick moonsault. Another big spot with Edge hitting RVD with a sunset flip off the ring apron to the outside. RVD with another big spot hitting Edge with a cross-body off the ring apron to the outside. Edge then powerbombed RVD into the padded guard railing as well. Another cool spot with RVD going for a Rolling Thunder and Edge catching RVD in a quick powerslam. With the referee knocked out, Edge tried to use the WWE Title against RVD, but RVD kicked it back in his face. Edge is busted open. The finish saw Lita hold a steel chair in the corner, Edge charged attempting a Spear, but RVD moved, Edge hit the chair and RVD connected with the Five Star Frog Splash to get the pinfall.
– Backstage, we see a shot of the ECW “Extremists” celebrating RVD’s win. Paul Heyman comes in and says one down, one more to go. Heyman talks about the Extreme Lumberjack Match later tonight between John Cena and Sabu. He mentions that while they will be at ringside, there will also be RAW lumberjacks at ringside as well. Heyman said it doesn’t matter if they like it or not because tonight it is all about E-C-W.
– The Great American Bash (SmackDown brand) PPV on July 23 is plugged.
– “Fake” Kane defeated Kane. Lots of back and forth action. At one point, Kane tried to take the mask off the “fake” Kane. A loud “BORING” chant started up during the match. The “fake” Kane worked exactly like the real Kane. Was pretty slow at first, but they picked up the pace later on. Kane gave the “fake” Kane a huge superplex off the top rope. The finish saw Kane attempt a clothesline off the top rope, but the “fake” Kane caught him and hit him with a chokeslam to get the pinfall. Crowd gave this no reaction at all.
– A video package aired highlighting the Extreme Lumberjack Match tonight between John Cena and Sabu. The ECW lumberjacks were introduced first followed by Sabu (whose name Lilian Garcia totally botched). The RAW lumberjacks were brought out next followed by John Cena.
– John Cena defeated Sabu in an Extreme Lumberjack Match. Cena and Sabu were attacked by the respective lumberjacks when they were tossed out of the ring. Sandman hit Cena with a singapore cane and this setup Sabu hitting a springboard moonsault off a steel chair and the top rope. Sabu hit a modified leg drop over Cena springboarding off the steel chair and top rope again. Sabu with another leg drop off the top rope, but this time with the steel chair in hand. The crowd was very pro-Cena (with some slight boo’s) and anti-Sabu. A brawl with the ECW and RAW lumberjacks broke out on the outside. Cena hit Stevie Richards with an FU over the guard railing. Sabu nailed Cena with some steel chair shots. Sabu tried to take out Cena through a table with Tommy Dreamer and Sandman holding him down, but Viscera interfered to prevent it. The finish saw Cena hit Sabu with the FU over the top rope through the table setup on the outside. Sabu crashed the corner of the table and it looked a bit short. The RAW lumberjacks rolled Sabu back in the ring and Cena applied the STFU. Sabu tapped. After the match, John Cena celebrated with the RAW lumberjacks.
– A promo for WWE SummerSlam on August 20 is shown. The now released Goldust was spotted in the commercial.
– Backstage, we see John Cena approach WWE/ECW Champion Rob Van Dam. RVD tells Cena that he had balls showing up at ECW last week. He said he admires Cena for also showing up at ECW One Night Stand. RVD says he knows Cena feels slighted for not getting his rematch yet. He said a lot of people think he is holding the John Cena spinner belt, but that isn’t the case. RVD offers a WWE Championship Match to Cena live tomorrow night on Monday Night RAW. Cena said he didn’t beg RVD for a rematch. He said RVD took everything away from him and that it wasn’t just the “John Cena spinner belt”, it was is his life. He accepts the title match for tomorrow night on RAW.
– A video package airs highlighting the events between Vince McMahon and Shawn Michaels in the last few months. This goes into The Spirt Squad injuring HBK and the recent return of D-Generation X to WWE.
– D-Generation X defeated World Tag Team Champions The Spirit Squad in a 5 on 2 Handicap Non-Title Match. Lots of chest chops by Shawn Michaels on The Spirit Squad. Johnny of The Spirit Squad busted open his nose pretty bad. After all the Spirit Squad was dumped out by DX, they regrouped and Johnny came back in putting a karate like bandana around his head and doing some “Karate Kid” type poses until Triple H got the tag and knocked him out. Triple H distracted the referee to allow HBK to crotch Johnny against the steel ring post. The Spirit Squad fought back sending Triple H into the steel steps on the outside. Another big spot say Johnny take out HBK with a big spinning heel kick to the head. HBK also got leveled with a steel chair shot by Kenny on the outside as well. Mickey hit HBK with a big bulldog over the top rope after springboarding off the mini-trampoline setup on the outside. Spirit Squad continues to work on HBK until he comes back with a big double DDT on Johnny and Mikey. Triple H takes out all members of The Spirit Squad. An impressive spot took place on the outside when Micky springboarded off the trampoline while HBK was being held. Micky flipped at HBK, but HBK moved and Mickey took out The Spirit Squad. The finish saw Triple H hit the Pedigree and HBK hit the Sweet Chin Music at the same time in the ring to get the pinfall.
After the match, more members of The Spirit Squad come in the ring and Triple H and Shawn Michaels take them out with their respective finishers. Triple H and HBK slap hands. HBK goes to leave, but Triple H stops him. They roll out members of The Spirit Squad and leave Mitch still in the ring. Triple H pulls down his trunks and HBK shoves Mitch’s face in Triple H’s backside. DX celebrates on the top turnbuckles when Vince McMahon appears at the top of the stage. We hear him say, “Congratulations, I will see both of you tomorrow night.” Triple H and Shawn Michaels pose at McMahon as the PPV goes off the air…
