For this many years online, there have got to be a few things that will piss off a website owner, right?
Right.
This column attempts to focus on the many annoyances and aggravations that I’ve encountered in the past decade of running and owning this site. The first issue that needs to be addressed is a problem that has subsided over the last few years. This is the issue of age.
Young Webmasters
Understand what I’m saying here – I have no issues with younger viewers or older viewers browsing through the website. As a matter of fact, there are some columns on this website that are so well-written that it would behoove a few of the younger folks out there to read them. However, when there are preteens and young teenagers owning and operating websites, this has been a source of major aggravation in the past.
For example, there was once a time when every site’s webmaster had an unwritten agreement that webmasters would be hired for their various newsboards so that they could have some increased exposure. Well, that obviously had the potential to his the shits…which it did. To make an extremely long story short, it was not uncommon for the “kiddies” (as we call them) would say that you could only post on their newsboard if you handed over all of your posting URLs and log-in information for each site.
Bunch of garbage if you ask me. And that’s not to mention the current spat of garbage that litters the internet wrestling scene – where you’re required to post a certain amount of news bits during the day in order to stay on as a reporter. Laughable, really.
That’s just a bit of the arrogance that some of the kiddies had back in the day. Thankfully, a lot of those kiddies have grown up and have realized that their previous actions were retarded. And just as thankfully, many of the kiddies have moved on to other online adventures.
The “.com” Boom
Another one of the biggest aggravations that really pissed me off at one point was the explosion of “.com’s” a few years ago. I mean you had some ridiculous websites like “3wrestlingismyfavoritesporteverbecausestonecoldsaidso.com” popping up. Really retarded – another side effect of the burst of kiddies on the internet coupled with everyone’s desire to be a part (no matter how small) of the “.com” boom.
The Need for Money
One of the most ubiquitous aggravations of the online wrestling scene (and really the entire online world) is the need to have to pay such a hefty price for both a “.com” and hosting services. The fact that advertisements need to be put on the website just to pay the hosting fees is annoying. Now, I’m not against online advertising on wrestling sites, but I’d prefer if it was done person-to-person as opposed to just a random media company placing advertisements on the website. However, this is more or less a necessity of the business these days…not much you can do about it.
I guess another, final aggravation is the demand for constant updates in the online wrestling world business. Most internet wrestling fans are very fickle these days. Either you have a site that is updated daily and that has a generic newsboard with “not-really-news” on it or you don’t get the influx of hits. At TBL, I’m glad that we’ve become a nice little alternative to the standard wrestling website.
See, where those sites need the money to stay in business – we just need to put out a respectable product!
