As of last night the Bizzaro World came to an end. You know that world right? It’s the world where right is wrong, wrong is right, up is down and well you get the picture. But last night the Hershey, Pa. fans were back in the fold. Heels got booed and faces got cheered and John Cena was a hero there. What a let down this was for me. Hershey how could you do this to me? Well let me take a sip of my Haterade and believe me I’m going to rant like never before.
I’m going to keep my Raw thoughts so short that you better not blink, and then I want to talk about New Years Revolution and how my hopes were dashed so quickly by those Hershey fans last night. The only upside of Raw was the tag team match with Kurt Angle and Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Masters and Carlito. I also liked the Val Venis vs. Shelton Benjamin match. And I have to say so far Mama Benjamin is enjoyable to watch. Chavo vs. Rob Conway was good, and I liked the RVD video they showed, it will be nice to have him back. The rest of the show was one big disaster. Now I’m anything but old fashioned, many feel I’m a little raunchy, vulgar and just plain dirty, okay maybe that’s pushing it but trust me prudish I’m not. But that so called main event sex segment with Lita and Edge made the whole Katie Vick segment look like something from Sesame Street.
What a wonderful way to push Edge as a new champion than buy killing him off immediately, and taking his credibility away with this thing that they put on for us. I will say however that Edge was up for it. While I’ve always said that WWE is anything but children friendly, I felt terrible to see so many young kids in that arena while this was all going on. I was never as embarrassed as I was last night. And as bad as this made Edge look, it made Lita look like nothing more than garbage. Any good that Lita did in the past as a wrestler is now just a memory. This wasn’t entertainment this was just a way to see how far Vince could go on cable TV. Now let me tie this in with the Edge/John Cena match at New Years Revolution. I never saw Cena losing on Sunday, and I NEVER saw Edge using his contract that night.
So when Edge came out and beat Cena I was ecstatic. Finally the belt was off of the rapper, it was about time. And the fans in Albany booing Cena from beginning to end had me laughing and gave me hope that the Edge win would not only keep Cena away from the belt but that Cena would maybe take a few weeks off and come back as a heel. I was so thrilled the way NYR ended. I also figured that Edge would win at the Royal Rumble and maybe hang on to it for a few months. But as I said above my dreams were shattered. Here I’m thinking that John Cena last night would again get heavy boos. I was so sure about it that I called my husband down and told him come watch the crowd turn on Cena. But that wasn’t the case of all. The “love” was there, it seems like Cena was Hershey’s town favorite. The more he talked the more they just ate it up. Sure the boos were there but the cheers drowned them out almost completely.
So Cena is back to being the top face at least last night he was, and Edge is out there doing his thing with Lita. I guess it’s obvious that Cena will win at Royal Rumble and again hang on to that belt for the next 10 years, or at least several months. As you can tell I’m disappointed and frustrated by the sudden turn of events. I’m so glad that Cena can handle not being loved by all the fans, gee that made my day. I found the writing for his promo to be to sugary sweet for my taste. But that’s okay the Haterade is just flowing here. With all the heat Cena has been getting of late last night would have been THE perfect time to turn that character. He could have come out and really shown his anger for the crowd that he’s killed himself for, but it wasn’t meant to be. So for me a really miserable Raw, but I guess since Sunday’s pay per view was damn good a crappy Raw was expected.
Let me just say that Big Show and Triple H, Trish and Mickie James, The Elimination Chamber match all came off so well for me. Carlito and Chris Masters looked good out there and I was amazed to see Carlito really put himself out there. I was surprised that Kurt Angle and Shawn Michaels were out of there so soon, and even more surprised how little Kane contributed to this match. I guess he was nothing more than filler. Hunter and Big Show told a good story and I even though Show was running out of gas, this came off far better than I could have imagined. Another match that told a good story, yet should have told just a little more was Trish vs. Mickie. First these two women did a super job in the ring, they didn’t hold a thing back, I just wish that we would have finally seen one of them go ballistic and turn and really heat things up. That was the only thing that disappointed me about this one. Ric Flair vs. Edge was okay. I’m guessing because this was so short, and that Edge speared Cena twice for the win, and that the Sexcapades took the place of Edge wrestling last night that he’s not quite healed from his injury. I got a kick out of Viscera getting all turned on by Benjamin’s mama. And as I said earlier I like mama so far but how long this angle will work is something that I don’t know. I could not stand the Gregory Helms vs. Jerry Lawler match, it was too long and dragged for me. I have no interest whatsoever in either guy. The Gauntlet was okay, naturally having Mae Young do her signature strip tease had me laughing. All in all the show was worth watching. I got 3/6 which is okay, but honestly I could not believe Jerry Lawler beat Helms. Yeah that’s a great way to get Helms over as a star.
So a good pay per view a miserable Raw and who knows what to expect with Smackdown. Let me give you the latest. First Batista is probably going to be out for several months because of a triceps tear which happened against Mark Henry Sunday at a house show. Also I’m reading that Vince is not happy with Joey Styles announcing. Well as long as he likes Coach’s work that’s says it all. And, supposedly Vince wants to bring JR back. That’s right JR. In what capacity no one knows yet, and will JR come back? That too is not known but I say he would. So there you have it, not one of my happier columns, hey maybe Smackdown can turn things around for me, but somehow I won’t hold my breath.
