A quick recap: Aaron Stevens pin Scotty 2 Hotty in a dark match.
For Velocity, Simon Dean pin Brain Kendrick; Paul Birchill pin John Xavier (billed from Hartford, CT); Jamie Noble beat Paul London by submission; Animal & Heidenreich beat Nunzio & Big Vito.
SmackDown begins w/Teddy Long in the office w/Benoit, Booker T and Sharmell. Teddy announces a replacement of Booker’s choosing can fill in for him for match #5 of the best of 7 series.
Next up was JBL vs Matt Hardy, which gets interrupted by the entrance of the Boogeyman. This causes JBL and the woman with him to flee the ringside area, thus Hardy wins by countout.
A backstage segment sees Orlando Jordan offering to sub for Booker. Sharmell and T respond by asking him how many times he’s tapped out to Benoit before, and to tap his ass on out of here.
Next up, Super Crazy and Psicosis beat the Dicks (yes, I said beat the Dicks lol).
Another segment w/Booker, and this time he’s with Randy Orton. Randy is hesitant at first, but agrees to be Booker’s sub vs Benoit.
The next segment had footage from 2 weeks ago, with the Melina/Batista segment, and the title change later that night.
An in-ring segment follows, with Melina and her “lawyer” at a podium in the ring. She goes on to say she’s filing a sexual harrasment suit vs Batista.
In match #5 of the best of 7, Chris Benoit beat Randy Orton by DQ, when Sharmell got in the ring, and used a weak-looking crutch shot on Benoit, when Chris had Orton in the crossface. So now it’s Booker 3, Benoit 2. After the match, Orton gives Benoit an RKO.
An interview segment followed, conducted by Funaki, and his guest was cruiserweight champion Kid Kash. This ended up with with Kash giving Funaki a brainbuster on the interview platform.
A brief promo of some sort w/Fit Finley played on the screen, to imply he’s gonna wrestle soon.
In a crummy match that only went 1:32, Bobby Lashley beat Sylvan by countout (worst match of the night).
Finally, in the main event, MNM beat Rey Mysterio and Batista to regain the WWE tag team titles. Near the end of the match, Mark Henry came down to the ring, after a ref bump, and Mark gave a powerslam to Batista, and Dave was pinned shortly thereafter. I’m guessing Melina hired Henry for protection?
There ya go…oh yes, the building wasn’t sold, but it was 90-95% full, so it’ll look good on tv (only seats tarped off were behind the stage. Reporting with this report: Keith Lagasse; New Britain, CT
