WWE SmackDown! Best of 2005
Air Date: December 23, 2005
Tazz and Cole opened the show from the studios. The first match they showed for the Best of Smackdown was a RAW match of course, Batista versus Triple H for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 21.
Highlights aired from JBL’s Celebration of Excellence, reminding everyone he was the longest reigning champion in almost 10 years. The next match was a Fatal Fourway in England with Big Show, Kurt Angle, JBL and Booker T for the Number One Contender spot.
Tazz said it’s extremely difficult being away from home and didn’t get to see his son grow up. He can’t imagine what it must be like for the troops overseas. They showed a video package from the RAW show in Afghanistan.
They showed highlights of Eddie and Rey winning the tag-team championships at No Way Out from the Bashams. The next match shown was the January 6th match between Eddie and Rey. One of the highlights in this match was Rey giving referee Brian Hebner a sitting senton by mistake. Tazz reminisced about Eddie Guerrero after the match aired, calling him a great performer and a great man. Tazz loves Eddie and misses him. Michael Cole also called Eddie his friend, and said Eddie was always there to give you a hug when you needed one. A video package for Eddie was shown with 3 Doors Down “Here without you.”
Clips from Boogeyman’s first match against Simon Dean aired. Tazz was planning a Christmas party at his house and invited the Boogeyman, but not Michael Cole. They showed a video package highlighting some of the new characters on Smackdown: Ken Kennedy, Kid Kash, Bobby Lashley, the Mexicools, Sharmell, MNM and the Boogeyman.
Chris Benoit making Orlando Jordan tap-out at SummerSlam was shown, followed by Benoit vs Booker T in October, when Benoit went flying into the announce table. They also showed the Booker heel turn.
Clips were shown from the Handicap casket match at No Mercy. The next match shown was the Smackdown vs RAW match at Survivor Series. Tazz said RAW blew it by losing Randy Orton. Sorry, but they don’t have any control over the lottery balls. They recapped the HIAC match to end the show. Next week on Smackdown will be Match Five between Benoit and Booker T.
This show didn’t make 2005 look too good, and 2006 isn’t looking much brighter.
