The official New Year’s Revolution poster has been released recently and features a sketch of John Cena in front of a drawing of the Elimination Chamber. Next to John Cena, it says “10 tons of steel. 2 miles of chain. 1 man left standing.” The poster was released two weeks ago to Direct TV as well as other businesses and the Pepsi Arena where the PPV will be this year.
While on the subject of the Elimination Chamber, the list of five opponents set to take on John Cena has been under a mountain of scrutiny lately. So far, there is not a definitive list of five stars set to challenge John Cena, but the list is starting to take form. Kurt Angle is someone who will definitely be in the match as it will be the last chapter in the Cena-Angle feud (though a side note to the bigger title storyline). After that, there are no plans for Angle except that he is not due for a title shot until May at the earliest.
Triple H is also pretty much a lock to be in the match. With Randy Orton scheduled to win the Royal Rumble this year, WWE needs to find someway to set the stage early on for the Cena-HHH match at Wrestlemania. Putting Triple H in this match and having John Cena defeat him in a match that Triple H has dominated is the perfect basis for a feud as many speculate. With Triple H being in the match, the word going around is that Ric Flair may be put into the match to end their feud together much like the Cena-Angle feud. However, with Ric Flair’s age (the match would take a hefty toll on his body) and recent legal issues, many question whether or not he will make the PPV and creative is already booking for both scenarios.
Big Show and Kane are each almost completely confirmed to be in the match because WWE is putting a lot of push behind the two as unstoppable that will eventually lead to the two feuding down the line. Whether it be Wrestlemania or Summerslam, sometime next year, these two will have a heavily pushed match with the basis being that each is unstoppable. Big Show and Kane are most likely still going to be WWE World Tag Team Champions come New Year’s Revolution and will probably hold the belts until right before their feud begins as is the case in 99.9% of former tag partner storylines.
Three more names have been thrown out in the midst of WWE advertising and speculation: Edge, Carlito, & Shawn Michaels. Edge was most likely scheduled to be in this match before his injury last month, but with that injury, there is a high level of doubt that he could make it back in time and be 100% to go. Narrowing it down to Carlito and Shawn Michaels, the likely pick would be Shawn Michaels as he is a guaranteed draw in PPV main events and is an established star. Carlito is someone who seems to have lost a lot of steam since this time last year which could be counted as a WWE failure, though they would never admit that. It is doubtful that WWE would have Carlito in the match considering it is still too early for him to be in the title picture. However, if they do go that route, it would be only logical that he would be the first to go or quickly pinned upon entering the match.
With all that said, it seems like the New Year’s Revolution main event will be John Cena defending his WWE Championship in an Elimination Chamber match against Kurt Angle, Triple H, Kane, Big Show, and either Ric Flair or Shawn Michaels, and most likely the latter.
As far as the rest of the card is concerned, no matches have been hinted at as of yet, but with the success of last year’s show with the main emphasis being on the main event, it is a high probability that WWE will be making this PPV a “one match show.”
