Again Smackdown was the show for me this week. There were two outstanding matches, a Smackdown heel stepped up and did one awesome promo, a wrestler debuted in the ring with one really weird entrance and all in all just one good show. Did I have any negatives? Hell yeah it wouldn’t be me if I didn’t but Smackdown and The Survivor Series outshined Raw at least as far as I’m concerned.
Props to Randy Orton. He opened up the show with one intense promo. I was so into what he had to say. He put his all into his character by bragging about being the Survivor Series lone survivor three years in a row and by taking out Undertaker. Randy is so ready for that title shot against Batista that he can taste it. As I said Randy was all business, and it suited him perfectly. The first match of the night was the Tag Team Battle Royal. This one had Funaki/Scotty Too Hottie vs. LOD vs. Paul London/Brian Kendrick vs. Psicosis/Super Crazy vs. Nunzio/Big Vito vs. Those crazy Dicks, James and Chad. Lets say this had a little of everything. For instance, MNM came to ringside to watch the match. That’s because the winners will face them for the tag team titles at Armageddon. Melina did her splits on the announce table to the delight of Michael Cole and Tazz. I don’t know which one had more trouble focusing during this Tazz or Michael Cole or both of these guys. Paul London and Spanky did some of their high flying moves. All in all this was a quick match but a good one. I could not be happier that Super Crazy and Psicosis won the match. I had a bad feeling that Vince might give that win to the Dicks, so their loss was a pleasant surprise for me. I do like The Mexicools being faces and I was very surprised but pleased with the nice crowd reaction that got when they came out.
You know I’m the first one to say I want JBL out of the title race. I also say that I like him a lot. It’s weird because while I am tired of him being in that title picture he just impresses me each week on the mic. This guy deserves nothing but credit for the way he made something out of JBL. He’s just so natural and I have to say each week I really do look forward to what this cocky heel has to say. And last night he was right in there talking about helping Rey Mysterio put Kane and Big Show in their place. Yeah little did we know that he was not exactly telling the truth, but that come into play later during the main event.
Chris Benoit vs. William Regal gets my match of the night. You know it’s funny I read the spoilers, and one report said something about this match. And it wasn’t very favorable. I believe the person thought it was boring. And when I read that I found that hard to believe because of who was in it. This match was anything but boring. This is the kind of match you wish WWE gave us more often. Now I was on the phone while this was going on so I was unable to hear Booker and Sharmell, but I’m telling you right now I was able to watch this match and not let the phone call distract me. I loved the ending when Benoit dived over the announce table to attack Booker. This all just came off as one of the best segments on the show.
My second top match was Randy Orton vs. Matt Hardy. This was everything I thought it would be once these two hit the ring. Matt looked very sharp out there and I know I use this lot but Orton and Hardy definitely have chemistry. Instead of the Taker/Orton feud I would love to see this go on. But it doesn’t seem to be the plan. While Orton bragged at the beginning of the show about “killing “Taker, which by the way if he did wouldn’t you think he would be arrested for murder? Well it’s just entertainment. Anyway Taker’s voice hit and Taker drove Randy nuts. Yeah it might have been a little silly but I liked it. Randy was scared out of his mind and it kind of shot down the legend killer. I will say this; I really believe that when Taker and Orton have the Hell in a Cell Match at Armageddon it’s going to be a very good match. And it should be the end of this feud, which I’m all ready for.
Okay now I hope the following makes sense. I thought very little of the Boogeyman vs. Simon Dean. Maybe because Boogeyman who made his in ring debut did nothing except eat worms and did some kind of finishing move on Dean for the win. But what I kind of liked was the Boogeyman’s entrance. It’s creepy, weird, eerie yet cool to watch. The music fits him perfectly and his shaking all the way to the ring was freaky yet again fun to watch. So I’ll give the entrance an 8 and the match a 1 and that is too high. Hey I was happy that Bobby Lashley didn’t squash Sylvan in a matter of seconds. Sylvan hung in there for a while and I have to say I liked what I saw. I would like someone like a Paul Heyman or even Paul Heyman to become Lashley’s manager and get his character totally over with the fans. And as far as the main event? It was okay nothing out of the ordinary. JBL was full of crap when he said that he wanted to team with Rey Mysterio because once this match got going JBL found a perfect reason to leave. That would be when JBL got poked in the eye accidentally by the ref. What a terrific excuse for JBL to walk away and leave Rey to fight off Kane and Big Show all by himself. Naturally Raw’s tag team champs loved brutalizing Rey. Big Show got the pin and the beating went on until Batista finally ran out to rescue Rey. I guess Batista watched Raw and saw John Cena coming out after Maria was Angle slammed. So Dave must have thought what the hell I’ll wait until Kane and Big Show beat up Rey a little bit and then I’ll make the save. Okay I’m being sarcastic but I think you get where I’m going with this.
Another thumbs up Smackdown, talk about being on a roll, this is great. I hope the momentum continues. I’ll be back on Tuesday with my thoughts on Raw. Let’s see will Eric get fired or won’t he? I can only hope that whatever happens this storyline doesn’t take up most of the show. Okay I will leave you with a request from one of my readers. If you can help her you can email her. Thank you in advance. She would like to know where she can see a clip of MNM kidnapping Trish. You can email her at mph4@hotmail.com
