I don’t think I’m quite ready to get back into things. So I would like to kind of make this another column on what’s out there. Smackdown was just outstanding, and I have to give it to Vince his staff and every wrestler on both rosters for giving the fans two outstanding tributes to Eddie Guerrero. I was so touched by both shows. Raw and Smackdown’s highlights of Eddie’s life in and out of the ring were done so well, that after watching both shows I really felt I knew this man personally. It’s been a hell of a week for so many of us but WWE came through and I believe made us all proud of what they gave us.
There was a huge item on the internet this week. A very disturbing item. A journalist with “sources” claimed that there is this death watch on a top WWE wrestler. He’s a money maker for the company and people are doing what they can to keep him alive at the expense of angles, storylines and house show ticket sales. This report goes on to say that Vince McMahon is unaware of this. And if this man dies it will make Eddie Guerrero’s death look minor in comparison. Okay naturally many of you emailed me about this. I found the timing of such a report to be extremely poor. Also if this is true, and this “journalist” is aware of who it is, then isn’t it up to this guy to notify Vince or someone in the WWE? Shouldn’t everything be done to help this man? I would like to think this is totally not true. One of my regular readers and a friend of mine emailed me a little while ago. He emailed someone who I believe is probably the most credible on the internet, Dave Meltzer. Meltzer responded by saying that this report was FALSE. I’m hoping this will all die down soon. I’m hoping that this will be the end of what I feel was totally unnecessary to post.
WWE.com posted that Randy Orton will now be on the Smackdown team at Survivor Series. Also next week on Smackdown it’s Randy vs. Batista in a street fight for the World title. Okay I want to throw a few things out here. First, I was hoping for Chavo to go back to Smackdown and take Eddie’s spot. But since it’s Randy I see the team now being called Orton’s team, because I believe he will beat Dave for the title, allowing Batista to heel up the tear in his back. Now with the Orton win I was figuring that Chris Benoit would get that number one contender spot for that title. I would love a Benoit/Orton feud. But I just read that naturally with Orton on the Smackdown team his match with Taker at Survivor Series is off. It’s believed and please remember that the following is just guess work, but now it’s believed that Taker will play a bigger part on Smackdown and feud with Orton for the title. I know for me it’s going to be very difficult watching Smackdown without Eddie there each week. Taker is really going to have to give the fans a lot in that ring to get some interest going. I’m certainly opened to a Taker/Orton feud but Taker will have to be there each week and work his ass off. Also I would love for Vince to dedicate the opening of Smackdown for a year to Eddie Guerrero. I would love to see the show open with a quick video or a picture of Eddie, because to me Eddie was Smackdown.
And finally I’m sure most of you read about Eugene going to a hospital in Manchester, England and then being sent home and suspended by WWE. One of the rumors had Eugene drunk and starting a fight at a hotel. But supposedly that isn’t the case. The latest I have read is that he passed out and was sent to the hospital and then released and is going to rehab in Kentucky. I would say if that’s what happened I’m sure Vince is paying for the rehab and Eugene’s job will be safe. And if he is off to rehab I wish him the best and hope for a full recovery.
Let me end with the following. My friend Kelly started a petition to get Eddie inducted into WWE’s 2006 Hall of Fame. I’ve already signed it so let me give you the link. http://new.petitiononline.com/eddiehof/petition.html. Now I have trouble with these petitions on AOL, however on IE they work fine. Okay my buddies Dory and Marti Funk have started an Online Wrestling School. Dory has taught some of the very best, like Kurt Angle and Edge so please check out his site for the information. http://www.dory-funk.com/.
I’ll be back on Tuesday with my Raw thoughts, and remember Raw will be taped in Sheffield, England. You can count on the Smackdown guys to show up. So it should be a good show. And thank you all that have posted on the Eddie Guerrero Tribute blog. I have enjoyed each and every one of your tributes and please keep them coming.
