A little over one year ago I sat here in Universal Studios Soundstage 21 covering the Victory Road PPV. Now on Sunday November 13th I am here covering TNA’s Genesis PPV. Who knew TNA would be still doing monthly PPV’s and putting on some excellent shows. The event is sad however with the passing of WWE star Eddie Guerrero this morning. I know he was well liked in the industry and will be missed each time I watch WWE TV or his excellently done DVD.
SCW Owner Chris Carson, northeastern star Slyck Wagner Brown and ‘the Shooter” Vordell Walker were in attendance. Tonight’s event is supposed to reveal a “major talent acquisition” aka Jason Reso aka Christian Cage aka Christian last seen on WWE TV. Apparently former ECW star PJ Paloco AKA Justin Credible is backstage and could be Larry Zbyszko’s opponent for Raven. The pre-show was hosted by Jeremy Borash and “the Franchise” Shane Douglas (rumor is Scott Hudson is too busy doing DVD work elsewhere.) They showed a limousine outside the building that held the acquisition. The sign of the night : “Hire Lenny Leonard.”
Shark Boy defeated current Ring of Honor Heavyweight champion Nigel McGuiness with a small package pin.
Shane Douglas spoke to Team Canada about the “Six Sided Stick Fight.” Bobby Roode said Kip James better call it down the middle. Petey Williams spoke about his match with X Division champion AJ Styles. Scott D’amore said he was going to be in high level meetings and would not be accompanying anyone to the ring.
The Diamonds in the Rough (Simon Diamond, “Primetime” Elix Skipper and David Young) defeated Lance Hoyt and the Naturals (Chase Stevens and Andy Douglas) when Skipper and Young hit Stevens with a double team facebuster. I held my breath the whole match as Stevens was still recovering from a broken neck at the last Impact tapings.
Don West did his hard sell then they showed Raven on the prowl for Larry Zbyszko.
The PPV began with a graphic in memory of Eddie Guerrero and was followed by the David Sahadi/Kevin Sullivan produced cold opening. Already in the ring was NWA championship committee member Larry Zbyszko and several black shirt security members. Zbyszko said Raven brought all of this upon himself and gave two simple choices, sign the waiver to leave TNA with money or he would make Raven’s career a living hell. Zbyszko said he never knew Raven had so many enemies.
(1) Raven defeated Larry Zbyszko’s personal choice, PJ Paloco AKA Justin Credible.
This began as a brawl and didn’t resemble wrestling until Raven went for a coke out. Paloco escaped and dropped a knee on Raven’s groin and boots to the chest. Paloco didn’t like the referee admonishing him and talked trash to the official. Paloco hit a running dropkick to Raven who laid in the corner. The fight went to the floor and the guard rails. Paloco brought Raven back to the ring for a chinlock as Cassidy Riley argued with Zybzsko on the rampway. Once again the match went to the floor but Riley stopped Paloco from hitting Raven with a kendo stick, so Paloco hit Riley. Raven got Paloco back in the ring missed the Raven Effect, avoided a superkick and locked in an ankle lock. Raven let the hold go and won with the Raven effect DDT. After the match Raven mocked Zbyszko.
A video recapping the 3LK/Team Canada feud played. Shane Douglas spoke to 3 Live Kru and BG James mentioned the new talent acquisition saying, “The captain up north is ready to abandon ship.”
(2) 3 Live Kru (Konnan, BG James and Ron “the Truth” Killings) defeated Team Canada (Bobby Roode, “Showtime” Eric Young and A1) with special referee Kip James (Bitch!!)
As mentioned in the pre-show there are hockey sticks in each corner and they can be used during the match.
Before the match Konnan paid tribute to his fallen friend Eddie Guerrero. Team Canada went for the sticks but 3LK dragged them down and then to the floor to brawl. Kip James ordered them back to the ring and stopped Eric Young from hitting BG James with a hockey stick (Young had on a MacKenzie Brothers style hat.) as BG beat down Roode, the Pit sang the American national anthem. BG went for the stick but looked to be afraid of heights so he tagged in Killings who got a stick, but Roode met him as he came back off the turnbuckle. Konnan took of his shoe and put it on the blade of the hockey stick Killings retrieved. Instead of using it, Killings tagged in Konnan who preformed his Random Task trick on Young (Really who throws a shoe?) BG James got up for the hockey stick but Roode came under him and dropped BG James back first on the mat. Team Canada made several tags working over BG James but didn’t get the pin, even after getting another stick down from the corner. Team Canada felt Kip James’ count wasn’t consistent and confronted him several times. Roode went to hit BG James with the hockey stick But Killings grabbed it and tagged into the match. As BG James and Killings beat down Team Canada Konnan gathered hockey sticks. Konnan tried to get Young to submit to an armbar move but Roode saved him. However Team Canada couldn’t save Young who had two hockey sticks laid across his groin as Killings came off the top rope and landed on them. After the match Konnan and Kip James shook hands.
Shane Douglas spoke to Father James Mitchell and Abyss about the new talent acquisition and tonight’s match. Mitchell mentioned Abyss fears barbwire. Don West and Mike Tenay spoke on camera about the rest of the show. They cut to shoes that were making their way into the building.
Out to the arena walked the one and only Jason Reso AKA “Captain Charisma” Christian Cage and he met with a thundering ovation. Christian Cage said the rumors have been why is he coming to TNA and he didn’t come to see the same guy say the same crap week after week. Nor was he here to see a grown man play doctor. He said he wasn’t fired nor did he get low balled in a contract offer. Christian Cage said he came to TNA because he LOVES WRESTLING just like everyone watching the PPV. He then declared himself the best performer in wrestling today and he was tired of egos and politics. Next he addressed NWA World Heavyweight champion Jeff Jarrett. He wants the World title and Jarrett shouldn’t wear white after Labor Day. Before Cage could leave the ring, Team Canada’s Scott D’amore and Bobby Roode came out to ruin the vibe. D’amore said no one in the building was happier to have Cage in TNA then himself. D’amore said that Cage should align himself with Team Canada to gain the title shot he desires. Roode stepped up and told Cage to accept the offer and D’amore seemed shocked that Roode spoke up. Roode and Cage got nose to nose before D’amore stepped in and told Cage he could have the rest of the evening to make up his mind., giving Cage a Team Canada t-shirt as a peace offering.
A package recapping Monty Brown and Jeff Hardy’s journeys to the number one contender bout tonight. Shane Douglas spoke to Monty Brown about Christian Cage appearing to leap frog over Brown and Hardy to the title shot. Brown said no one was going to stop the path to his title shot.
(3) In a #1 contenders match, “Alpha Male” Monty Brown defeated “Charismatic Enigma” Jeff Hardy
I am guessing but I think the winner faces Jarrett at Turning Point on December 11th or Final Resolution on January 15h 2006. After some feeling out Hardy hit Brown with a jawbreaker and had a sponsored fit of some kind. Brown was not amused and hit a clothesline and went for the POUNCE but Hardy held the ropes and sent Brown to the floor. Hardy went for a baseball slide but Brown moved and hit Hardy. Brown dropped Hardy throat first. Hardy repaid Brown by running along the Pit and hitting a clothesline. Hardy tossed Brown back in the ring and dropped his legs on Brown’s getting a two count. Hardy telegraphed Brown’s backdrop but not Brown’s belly to belly suplex to the floor. Brown teased tossing Hardy into Tenay and West but tossed Hardy back to the ring, mocking the announcers. Brown began the body shots, trying to wear Hardy down for the POUNCE. Brown looked ready for it but instead both men hit each other with a clothesline. Brown got to his feet first but didn’t avoid Hardy’s flip flop kick from the corner. Hardy went for the Twist of Fate but Brown countered into a fallaway slam but Hardy countered and hit the Twist of Fate. Hardy went up for the Swanton but missed Brown. But Brown didn’t miss the POUNCE!!!!!!!!! Brown wins the match and awaits Jeff Jarrett.
A recap of the X Division elimination match played. Shane Douglas spoke to Roderick Strong, Alex Shelley and “Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels but Samoa Joe wasn’t present. Once again Daniels declared himself team captain.
(4) In the Elimination X match, the team of Roderick Strong, Alex Shelley, Samoa Joe and “Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels defeated Austin Aires, Sonjay Dutt, “the Future” Chris Sabin and Matt Bentley (w/Traci Brooks who were greeted with the Pit created “Bentley Bounce”.)
In a TNA press release Daniels declared himself captain of “Team Ministry.” This was the match of the night, so far. Instead of giving move by move description, I will provide the order of elimination and who got the pin/submission:
** Austin Aries eliminated Roderick Strong with a 450 splash.
** Christopher Daniels eliminated Austin Aries right after Strong’s elimination.
** Alex Shelley eliminated Sonjay Dutt via submission.
**Matt Bentley eliminated Alex Shelley with a superkick.
** Samoa Joe eliminated Matt Bentley via the Muscle Buster and Kokina Clutch.
**Christopher Daniels eliminated Chris Sabin after hitting the Angel’s Wings. Joe was pulled to the floor by Bentley and didn’t figure in the final decision.
After the match Daniels and Joe had a confrontation that led to Joe laying Daniels out with a chair shot that busted open Daniels head. It was followed by two muscle busters, one on the same chair. As EMT’s came to remove Daniels from the ring, AJ Styles came out to ringside.
Shane Douglas spoke to Jeff Jarrett and America’s Most Wanted about the arrival of Christian Cage and their match tonight with Team 3D and Rhino. Cameras showed Christopher Daniels being loaded into an ambulance as Don West looked on. They played a recap of what led to the following match between Sabu and Abyss.
(6) In a NO DQ match, Abyss (w/Father James Mitchell) defeated Sabu.
Recently on Impact Sabu upped the violence factor, bringing barbwire to the ring wrapped around his arm.
Sabu hit Abyss with a springboard plancha to the floor off a chair. Abyss sent Sabu into the guard rails back first. Sabu got a table but Abyss caught him and tossed Sabu in the ring, hitting a forearm to the face. Abyss tried to choke the life out of Sabu with one hand but failed. Abyss did succeed in busting Sabu’s nose with several turnbuckle shots and a corner splash. Abyss went up top but Sabu caught him and brought him back down with a huricurana. Abyss repaid Sabu with a chair shot to the head and then he wedged the chair in between the buckles. However this backfired as Sabu avoided a shoulder tackle which sent Abyss into the chair. Sabu went for the table a second time but opted to hit Abyss with a chair, followed by a legdrop that sent Abyss into the table face first. As Abyss recovered he retrieved the infamous black satchel of tacks as Sabu got a chair wrapped in barbwire but Mitchell stopped Sabu from using it. Instead Abyss chokeslammed Sabu into the tacks!! Somehow Sabu kicked out and avoided a second rope splash that made Abyss hit the tacks chest first. Sabu tried to get Abyss tap to a choke but released it. Sabu fought out of an Abyss power bomb but was hit with the Black Hole Slam on the barbwire wrapped chair!!
A video package played showing how Petey Williams earned tonight’s title shot against AJ Styles. Shane Douglas spoke to AJ Styles about Samoa Joe’s attack on Christopher Daniels and then the recent loss to Williams on Impact. Styles said the Canadian Destroyer was one of the coolest moves in wrestling in the past ten years but Williams wasn’t Phenomenal. They showed the X Factors for the match.
(7) NWA World X Division champion “the Phenomenal” AJ Styles defeated Team Canada’s former X Division champion Petey Williams (w/A1.)
Styles and Williams went to the mat to try and gain control of the match but neither succeeded until Williams began throwing punches and Styles hit a dropkick. Styles hit a bodyslam and a knee drop to the front and then to the back of Williams’ head. After getting a two count Styles hit Williams with a suplex but Williams raked Styles’ eyes. Styles went for the Clash but Williams fought his way to the ropes. Williams tried to enter the ring but Styles kicked him in the chest sending Williams to the floor. Styles followed Williams out with a suicide front flip, landing in the crowd. A1 distracted Styles long enough for Williams to recover. Williams tried to German Suplex Styles of the ring apron into the guard rail and after fighting Styles, Williams finally accomplished it bringing a holy shit chant from the fans. A1 was tossed by the referee. Williams brought Styles back in the ring and locked in a body scissor. Styles tried to fight off Williams who had Canadian Destroyer on his mind. Styles was dropped throat first on the top rope and Williams hit a slingshot huricurana to the floor. After taking some water from Don West, Williams brought Styles in and sang O’Canada standing on styles crotch as he was in the Tree of Woe. Williams continued the attack on Styles’ neck even as Styles fought back, hitting the Pele’ kick. Styles hit two clotheslines and a spinning kick followed by a modified pump handle slam. Styles signaled for the Clash but Williams avoided it and hit a Northern Knights suplex for two. Williams went for another suplex but Styles hit one into a Rude Awakening for two. Styles went for a superplex but Williams sent Styles back into the ring and tried for a sunset flip which styles rolled through for two. Styles Clash number two became a Williams delivered tornado DDT. Williams went for the Destroyer but Styles blocked it so Williams hit a legsweep and locked in the sharpshooter. Styles somehow made it to the ropes before tapping out. Both men looked exhausted when Williams’ drop toe hold sent Styles into the turnbuckle and Styles sent Williams to the floor. Samoa Joe looked on as Williams was sent to the mat and Styles was ready for the Spiral Tap. Styles looked at Joe long enough for Williams to climb up and try for another superplex. Styles blocked it and as he stared at Joe hit a Super Styles Clash to win the match. Styles and Joe stared off as a teaser for Turning Point PPV played.
Tenay and West spoke to the home audience before a video package played showing Jeff Jarrett regaining the NWA World title and the other events that led to the main event of the PPV. Shane Douglas spoke to Team 3D and Rhino about the infamous funeral held in “memory” of Team 3D. Brother Ray reminded AMW they should have finished the job, tonight there would be redemption. All three men also paid tribute to Eddie Guerrero, wearing Eddie on their wrist tape.
(8) Team 3D (Brother Ray and Brother Devon) and Rhino defeated NWA World Tag Team champions America’s Most Wanted (“Tennessee Cowboy” James Storm and “Wildcat” Chris Harris) and NWA World Heavyweight champion Jeff Jarrett (w/Gail Kim)
When Team 3D hit the ring, Jarrett and AMW ran to hide in the crowd. So Team 3D and Rhino went out and met them as the fans ran for safety. The fighting seemed to go on forever, Storm and Ray brawled in front of my section as Rhino and Jarrett fought by the Spanish announce table. I think Jarrett got backdropped by Rhino on the rampway as Ray got a cheese grater out from under the ring and split storm’s head open. Harris and Devon brawled around ringside as Rhino continued his fight with Jarrett. Storm saved Harris from a suplex into a folding table. Harris sent the cheese grater into Ray’s crotch as Rhino hit Jarrett with a garbage can. Storm saved Harris from a power bomb into the table. Rhino piledrove Jarrett on the ramp and set a table for Jarrett to be GORED through but Storm hit a superkick. Harris and Devon continued to fight until Storm hit the 8 second ride for two. Jarrett countered out of the Bubba Bomb and hit the Stroke. Rhino hit the GORE but Harris pulled Rudy Charles to the floor. AMW rammed Rhino crotch first into the ring post and double chokeslammed Ray to the mat. AMW hit Devon with the Hart Attack but they got two. AMW’s attempted Death Sentence into the table was interrupted by Ray. Storm fell to the 3D and lost the match. Jarrett hit Rhino with the guitar. Team 3D got another table for Jarrett while Gail Kim tried to crotch shot Ray. Team Canada hit the ring saving Jarrett and Kim from damage. As Team Canada and Jarrett laid Devon on a table, Christian Cage hit the ring wearing the Team Canada shirt. After shaking hands with D’amore Cage hit him with the Unprettier. Cage and Team 3D hit Jarrett with a 3D through the table. Cage tore off the Team Canada shirt to reveal a TNA shirt the fans once again chanted EDDIE, EDDIE!! Team Canada, AMW, Gail Kim and Jeff Jarrett stood on the heel entry way as the winners celebrated in the ring. Christian Cage said he was in town, he was proud to be in TNA and he was going to become the NWA world champion because “That How He Rolls.” After Cage finished Team 3D led the crowd in a TNA chant as Ray wore Storm’s cowboy hat.
