PRIDE Fighting Championships announced Wednesday that they would be promoting the return of one of the most famous mixed martial arts fighters in the sport’s history, Ken Shamrock, against another, Kazushi Sakuraba on October 23.
The announcement of the match, the latest in aggressive moves by PRIDE to gain an edge in its battle in Japan against the K-1 Organization, contends with both time and reality as both competitors have suffered humbling losses recently.
Shamrock’s contract ended several months ago with UFC and was not renewed. For UFC, it was the end of an era, as they terminated their relationships with both Shamrock and Ortiz, two of the company’s most popular fighters. PRIDE has added several former UFC fighters recently, including Tank Abbott and Phil Baroni.
