As a two-time World Wide Wrestling Federation tag team champion, Johnny Valiant sold out huge arenas worldwide and has many a story to tell. And as an actor, stand-up, and improv artist, he’s worked with the best that show business has to offer.
In “An Evening With Johnny Valiant” the WWF Hall of Famer tells his life story and what a story it is. From appearing in the WWF’s Wrestlemania before 93,000 people to a recurring role on The Sopranos, Johnny has seen and done it all. And On August 21st from 9:00-10:30 Johnny Valiant returns to The C-Note at 157 Ave. C at 10th Street in New York City with Admission only $7.
The media’s raved about Johnny Valiant. The WWE was there to cover his funny and poignant show for Raw Magazine. So don’t miss “An Evening With Johnny Valiant”
Presented by Michael McHugh and New Century Booking.
“He hugs his microphone, peers into the intimately situated crowd and sets sail on a 90-minute one-man show that slices and dices his days as a professional wrestler with animated humor and unexpected sensitivity: fall-out-of-your-seat funny.”
(Kenny Herzog- Long Island Press)
“Stuns like a side piledriver”
(The Village Voice)
“He is funny, prowling the stage and using his graying, 240-pound frame as a comic prop. It’s as if Spalding Gray had, at least for a few minutes, entered the body of Jonathan Winters.”
(Microsoft’s Slate)
“The one-man show serves as a confessional of sorts, an exorcism of the demons one accumulates on the sleeper-hold circuit.”
(Time Out New York)
“a knack for impersonating fellow wrestlers with a suitcase full of funny road stories”
Nick Zainno- Boston Globe
“Johnny Valiant adds excitement to anything he performs in…he brings so much…he is awesome.”
(Billy Merritt of Piledriver– Upright Citizens Brigade Troop)
“Funny Heartwarming, and very, very interesting. You had to be there. I did not see anyone leave the place for even one of those 55 minutes. Riveting- glad I was there.”
(Gary Heiderich WTFO Hotline)
“Johnny was always one of the most outrageous characters as a wrestler. Now, in standup, you don’t want to mess with Johnny.”
(Fred Geobold, WBAI-FM Light Show NYC)
“The people loved Johnny. Congratulations on a memorable evening.”
(Nick Oddo Documentary Filmmaker)
“Johnny Valiant is hilarious and entertaining.”
(Nelson Torres WTF TV NYC)

For six years, filmmaker Mark Ezovski followed three individuals to explore the strange, fascinating and often secretive world of professional wrestling.
“I loved wrestling when I was a kid,” says Ezovski, “I knew it wasn’t on the up and up but there was something so compelling about it that I wanted to believe it was real. Twenty years later, after spending so much time with wrestlers, and talking to wrestlers I learned just how real it is.”
“Luscious” Johnny Valiant, a WWE hall of famer and thirty year veteran of the mat wars would agree. “Wrestling really took toll on me emotionally and physically,” Says Valiant, “If I had to do it again, I don’t think I would.”
“Empress Asia” Sky Hosoya, a former professional body builder, Golden Gloves boxing Champion, world renowned dominatrix and– of course a professional wrestler– chimes in. “You get to pack yourselves in a car with five sweaty guys,” she says,” drive two hundred miles to the matches and get paid $20. Obviously, I’m not in it for the money.”
“Professor” Larry Brisco the wrestler is really Larry DeGaris Ph. D., college professor by day, dastardly ring villain by night. Trained in an “old school” style with a respect for the craft of the sport, the wrestling professor explains it all very succinctly. “This film is a peek behind the curtain—sometimes the line between the fact and fiction of wrestling is hard to see. Trying to figure out what’s real and what’s not is what’s so fun and playful about the business.”
The Absolute Truth About Pro Wrestling is a film about three individuals following their dreams and living life on their own terms. It is a funny, sad and uplifting portrait of life inside and outside of the squared circle.
Anthology Film Archives is located at 32 Second Ave. at Second St. NY, NY 10003. By subway, take the 6 train to Bleecker Street or the F or V train to Lower East Side / Second Ave.
