“Selfishness is not living as one wishes to live, it is asking others to live as one wishes to live.”
-Oscar Wilde
Blowhard, narcissistic, self-absorbed the list goes on to describe the fans opinion of the recent and controversial new NWA-TNA world champion; Jeff Jarrett. After another eye-catching 3 hours that included the match of the year, fans were left on an overall high after September 11th’s Unbreakable. Spike TV is coming in 2 weeks, Bound for Glory in a month and a half with optimum momentum going for Total Non-Stop Action, Wal-Mart has even started to carry a 3-disc DVD set of TNA Pay per views. So why if you go to TNA chat rooms and forums you’ll find that most fans are crying “TNA SOLD OUT”? Is there good claim for this? Has TNA sold out? Is this already spelling the doom of the upstart promotion? Like I told myself as a rabid New York Jets fan after last week, “it’s way too early to panic”, and I’m going to elucidate exactly why TNA fans all over shouldn’t be so aghast just yet.
Jeff Jarrett is to TNA what Triple H is to the WWE
It’s what we’ve all heard before so many times. Do they really have anything in common? They both run backstage politics, they both are members of the family that happens to run the promotion, they are both super heels, and to top it off they do hold their respective promotion’s world title the majority of the time. Jeff Jarrett has a guitar, Triple H has a sledgehammer. Yes, these two are more alike than you think. The one thing that most WWE fans would have over TNA fans is Jeff Jarrett and his selfish “I’m keeping my top spot” ways. This could spell doom for TNA and its fans. Rising talent such as Monty Brown, Abyss, even Christopher Daniels or even Lance Hoyt could be primed for a world title run at this very moment. To put the title on Jarrett simply because Spike TV may want a recognizable name such as Jarrett is ludicrous. What about Raven? Raven who has worked his ass off for the company for the past 2 years finally gets a world title reign only to be cut drastically short in an unofficial TNA house show. TNA prides itself on “listening to its fans” and this is an example of the exact opposite of what TNA fans truly want. This is nothing short than a WWE move. How many workers have been held back due to Triple H’s need to keep his spot? Rob Van Dam, Booker T, Kane, Chris Jericho all buried. TNA doesn’t need that. We don’t need Jeff Jarrett running around burying wrestlers just because his daddy owns the company. On the dawn of a new era of professional wrestling the very foundation upon which it was built is already starting to crack. Jarrett once again holding the NWA-TNA world title could only mean the worst for TNA.
On the contrary…this could be the best move for TNA.
Let’s take a step back and conceive what happened here. Jeff Jarrett, who vowed to get his title back, did. Difference is, he did it with the unlikely help of America’s Most Wanted; whom he was talking to earlier about new talent coming in and joining up with him and so on and so forth. AMW is one of the over talent in TNA right now, and what do you do when your super face or faces start to get stale like AMW was? Turn them heel! It’s a little bit of genius. It will not only boost the tag division, it will create a driving heel force in TNA between AMW and Jarrett. Other factors play in though. Raven; as much as I like the guy, he didn’t have an admirable reign as world champion. Only 2 title defenses, one against Abyss which was a classic bloodbath, and the other against Rhino, which was a 3 star match at best. This could be the time in Raven’s career when he starts to put over younger talent much like he did with CM Punk. Chris Sabin, Lance Hoyt, even Cassidy Reily could be future feuds. Another factor to play in is that TNA really DOES listen to its fans. Jushin Liger, Austin Aries, Samoa Joe all brought in because the fans demanded them. Morons do not run TNA. I’m sure they know that the TNA community is in an uproar about this as well. Trust that Jarrett will likely drop it at Bound for Glory. Once again, I like Raven but Jarrett is a stronger world champion that Raven, especially going into a major debut with Spike TV.
So here is how things can go horribly wrong. The first mistake is Jeff Jarrett keeps the world title after Bound for Glory much into 2006. Or if Jarrett does drop it, he drops it to Jeff Hardy, who in my opinion is championship material, but not after a 4 month hiatus and an average match with Bobby Roode. If Jarrett faces Raven at Bound for Glory and retains this will also draw a mistake. Jarrett will become every TNA fan’s worst fears, and the company falls along with Jarrett’s selfishness.
Here’s how things go capaciously. We’ll start with America’s Most Wanted’s heel turn. Who will they face in their first feud? None other than Team 3-D AKA The Dudley Boyz (McMahon is a jackass). This is a dream match that will take place not in the WWE, but TNA. This will destroy the WWE tag division more than it already has. Secondly as a stated before, TNA does listen to its fans. A number of fans would like to see Monty Brown with the world title and even Christopher Daniels. A HUGE number of fans do NOT want Jeff Jarrett as champion. Do the math. TNA has kept their fans happy for 3 years, hence why they are still around for 3 year plus. I’ll even predict that Jarrett drops the world title at Bound for Glory to Brown, or Daniels, or if necessary the charismatic enigma Jeff Hardy. Take note that even though Raven fully deserved his title reign, it wasn’t that good of one. Is that Raven’s fault? Of course not, but it is what it is. Jarrett is just the smarter champion to have coming into mainstream cable TV. Look for Monty Brown to push his world title rhetoric even more and with any luck we’ll see somewhat of a 4-way between Raven, Jarrett, Hardy and Brown at Bound for Glory. Just speculation though of course.
So fellow TNA fans do not live in anguish just yet, we have just witnessed the match of the year followed by a world title change off of television which hasn’t happened in a long time. Trust TNA, give them the benefit of the doubt, the WWE has screwed up for 3 years straight now with horrid programming, TNA hasn’t. The last thing to do is turn your back on a growing and endless potential of a product such as NWA-Total Nonstop Action Wrestling.
As if I really cared.
I’ll still give my opinion on Unforgiven on Sunday presented by RAW
Cena vs. Angle
-the only reason worth watching this match is because of Kurt Angle, the ONLY reason to watch RAW. Angle will keep it exciting against a now stale John Cena…BUT since the WWE and their writers are morons, I don’t expect them to do the right thing here…
WINNER: JOHN CENA
Flair vs. Cool
-Carlito sucks in the first place, he’s horrid and do I really think they will put the IC title on Flair? WOuld they be that dumb? I think SO!
WINNER: RIC FLAIR!
Ashley, Trish err…whorefest…
-WHOREFEST! I actually expect Trish to turn on Ashley for some reason…and for Torrie to turn on Victoria. Either way TNA PLEASE jumpstart your womens division, this is pathetic.
WINNERS: VICTORIA & TORRIE
Hardy vs. Edge in a steel cage
-Once Matt said that Kane really wasn’t with Lita and ruined the credibility of every storyline in the WWE on top of the already pathetic attempt to “break kayfabe” by the WWE..I could care less about this match. But to keep this gooing to Survivor Series, I’ll go with Matt Hardy because it’s his turn.
WINNER: MATT HARDY
HBK vs. Masters
-WHY is Master being put over at all? He has no ability at ALL! Wrestling or on the mic! I don’t think HBK will stoop so low as to actally take the job, so I just expect him to put over Masters yet still get the win…
WINNER: HBK
Big Show vs. Snitzky
-I…don’t care. Wow.
WINNER: BIG SHOW
HurriRosey vs. Cade and some redneck
-Ew. In their lack of a tag team division this is the best we get? Since Cade and his redneck friend are getting a push this one is easy…
WINNERS: CADE AND SOME REDNECK
Benjamin vs. Chavo
-Somehow I can see this going further than it should have…which should have STAYED on paper in the creative meetings and not into actual action like Chavos’ lame gimmick. Anyways…
WINNER: KERWIN
Wow this PPV is going to suck, too bad I’ll miss it.
THE HIGH SPOT POLL OF THE WEEK!
