The controversy surrounding Chris Jericho and his future with WWE, or pro wrestling in general, continues. In a press release dated August 22 on his website, Jericho announces that he has left World Wrestling Entertainment for other endeavors. However, the press release is NOT linked anywhere on the site. In other words, it’s a page you only stumble upon accidentally. The link was http://www.chrisjericho.com/press_release.htm, but as of this writing, the page has been removed.
In the unpublished press release, Jericho gives more details on his future. He mentions that he will be spending a lot of time on his band Fozzy, as well as his satellite radio show. Jericho also mentioned that he will be trying to audition for more movie roles, and confirmed that a role he filmed for a Sci-Fi channel movie which will air next year. Y2J will also continue to make appearances on VH-1’s “Best Week Ever” which he’s appeared on regularly since the show debuted.
Jericho mentioned in the press release “”Whether I do achieve success outside of wrestling or I don’t, I can say one thing for sure…I’m not retiring from the wrestling business. Too many people over too many years have said that and have constantly returned. I’m not leaving the WWE for good, I’m not leaving wrestling for good. When I’m ready to come back I will. It may be one month, it may be one year, but when the time is right, I’ll know and I will return and be better than ever…I wouldn’t think of returning any other way. You won’t see me doing any conventions or indie shots in the meantime. If I’m going to be in the wrestling biz, it will be with the WWE. I’m a member of the WWE family for the rest of my life…just like the mafia…and I have absolutely nothing bad to say about my company. So you won’t see me doing any shoot interviews either. Why would I? Vince and I have accomplished a lot of awesome things together and I have nothing but respect for him.”
If the controversy here wasn’t enough, there’s a graphic on the main page of the website with a picture of Jericho standing in front of the NWA-TNA logo. This is certainly to get people talking.
Chris Jericho is a former Heavyweight Champion, as in 2001 he defeated Steve Austin and The Rock to unify the WCW and WWE Championships. Among many of his wrestling career accomplishments are a main event match at WrestleMania (against Triple H) for the World Title, and few of the best matches in WWE over the past six years, including a triple threat match with Kurt Angle, and Chris Benoit at WrestleMania; a ladders match at Royal Rumble with Chris Benoit, and a tremendous match with Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania. Chris Jericho is a student of Stu Hart, and has won many titles throughout his career, dating back to Stampede Wrestling, through Japan, ECW, WCW, and the WWE.
