Once again I sit inside Soundstage 21 in Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida. This time it’s for the TNA Sacrifice PPV held on August 14, 2005. Former WWE stars Kenzo Suzuki and Shannon Moore were in attendance. The event was kicked off by the pre-show hosted by Jeremy Borash and “the Franchise” Shane Douglas (paging Hudson, Scott Hudson.)
Cassidy Reilly, still trying to be a follower of Raven, joined JB and Douglas at ringside. Reilly called Raven and Sabu a “hardcore dream team.” During the pre show, Larry Zybzsko and Mike Tenay entered the ring for an interview. They announced to the fans the Spike TV deal which debuts on Saturday, October 1st. Tenay acknowledged Panda Energy’s Bob Carter “for not leaving them.” But before Zybzsko could comment Jeff Jarrett and Rhino came to the ring. Jarrett claimed he should have made the TV deal announcement since “TNA was his dream.” Jarrett claimed some wrestlers would be released from the north and they would be coming to take his spot in TNA. Jarrett said when he beats Raven tonight he wants a NWA World title shot. Zybzsko granted he shot but if Raven pins Jarrett, then he would not get a title shot for one full year. For some reason Matt Bentley and Traci Brooks were not part of the PPV.
The pre-show match saw Apolo and Sonny Siaki defeat Jerrelle Clark and Mikey Batts.
The opening video package was produced by David Sahadi (wish you were here) and was the perfect lead-in to the PPV.
(1) Chris Sabin, Sonjay Dutt and Shark Boy defeated “Primetime” Elix Skipper, Simon Diamond and David Young.
Simon Diamond took the mic and voiced another problem This time claiming “Primetime” Elix Skipper was left behind by his former partner and he was now a “diamond in a rough”. Shark and Young started with wrestling but began Shark got in some chest chops and a neckbreaker for two. Young got out of the corner punches with a clothesline but Shark bit him in the ass. Diamond distracted Andrew Thomas long enough to allow Skipper to attack Shark. Diamond hit Shark with his Simon Series and deposited Shark chest first on the top rope. Skipper came in with some offense but allowed Shark to tag in Dutt. Dutt went for a head scissor but Skipper countered into a backbreaker. Dutt spent lots of time on the defensive and finally tagged out to Sabin who took on Diamond. Sabin hit a springboard missile dropkick but the pin was broken up by Skipper and Young. Dutt went for a double cross body block but was caught mid air by Diamond and Young. So Shark Boy came off onto Dutt. Skipper hit his trapeze head scissor and Young hit the Spinebuster but Dutt was saved by Shark Boy. Dutt tagged out Sabin who exchanged several pinning combinations with Skipper and finally got the win for his team. After the match Skipper had words with Diamond but it seemed like it was settled down.
Shane Douglas recapped the history between AMW and The Naturals with Jimmy Hart. Hart and his team said tonight it was about putting an end to Team Canada’s reign of terror. Jeff Jarrett came in to talk to the boys about them possibly losing their jobs. Chase Stevens said he didn’t want to talk to Jarrett who hadn’t spoken to the Naturals in over nine months.
(2) Alex Shelley defeated “1000% Guapo” Shocker.
In a promo on Impact, Shocker called this match the final fall in a two of three falls matchup. Someone call Josh Rich because Shelley stole his look. Like their previous bouts there was a technical mat display in the opening minutes. Shelley went to work on Shocker’s left leg while Shocker attacked Shelley’s chest. Shocker went to the floor but Shelley avoided the contact and hit an enziguri. Shocker recovered and hit Shelley with a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. The action went to the ring but quickly came back to the floor and Shocker hit Shelley with a plancha. Shocker finally brought Shelley back to the ring and delivered chest chops and bulldog before locking in a leg lock of sorts. Shelley made it to the ropes and delivered a tornado DDT for two. Shocker blocked a clothesline and countered into two different submission moves but released each when Shelley refused to submit. Shelley went for a spinning toe hold but Shocker countered into a pin for two. Both men hit dropkicks to the other’s face but Shelley got a quick rolling cradle for the win. It looked like he held the bottom rope for leverage.
Shane Douglas spoke to Father James Mitchell about possibly waking the sleeping giant known as Lance Hoyt. Mitchell claimed Hoyt wasn’t the original target of their aggression. Mitchell seemed to take pleasure insulting the “Hoyt-A-Maniacs.”
(3) Abyss (w/Father James Mitchell) defeated Lance Hoyt.
Hoyt sported new ring gear as he charged the ring and jumped Abyss eventually clotheslining Abyss over the top to the floor. Hoyt followed out with a tope but Mitchell distracted Hoyt long enough so Abyss could send Hoyt into the ring barricades. The fighting came back to the ring where Abyss laid in chops but Hoyt fired back. Hoyt avoided an Abyss shoulder tackle but missed a running knee to the corner. Abyss hit a second rope splash but got two. Abyss sent Hoyt shoulder first into the buckles and ringpost two times. But the third time it backfired and Hoyt landed on the second rope and landed on Abyss. Abyss went to the ropes again but Hoyt caught him and choke slammed him. Hoyt hit the moonsault but got TWO. Abyss hit the Black hole Slam for TWO. Mitchell gave Abyss a chair but Hoyt kicked it to Abyss’ face getting a two count. Hoyt put the chair in front of Abyss and hit a Van Terminator for two. Abyss got the hard fought win by hitting a second Black Hole Slam.
Shane Douglas talked to BG James about refereeing the match between 3LK and Brown/Kip James. Ron Killings and Konnan came to the interview area to talk to BG about 3LK being a unit.
(4) 3 Live Kru’s Konnan and Ron “the Truth” Killings defeated Kip James and “Alpha Male” Monty Brown.
On Impact “Living Legend” Larry Zybzsko named BG James the special referee for this match. He had his hands full early on as the match began as a Texas tornado match. 3LK ruled the ring briefly but the fighting went back to the floor. Finally BG James settled things down as James and Brown took over on Killings for several minutes. BG seemed to be a doing a good job as neutral official as his count was consistent. K-Dogg was finally tagged in but his Random Task trick backfired as he threw his shoe at BG James. Konnan went to use a chair but BG stopped him. Kip James went for the same chair and BG stopped him too. The two exchanged words and BG hit Kip with right hand punches, allowing Konnan to get the pin. Looks like 3LK is united, for now.
A Bound For Glory promo played.
(5) In a non-title match, NWA World X Division champion “Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels defeated former ROH World champion Austin Aries.
This match came as the result of an internet poll that included Matt Sydal, Roderick Strong, Jay Lethal and Aries. Finally TNA got Daniels some merchandise, a new t-shirt. Daniels preached about Jeff Jarrett’s threats of “Black Wednesday”. Daniels didn’t seem happy about TNA bringing in an outsider to face him tonight. Aries came to the ring and began a mat attack on Daniels but Daniels got to his feet only to be hit by a springboard elbow. Aries locked in a front facelock which Daniels countered out of. Aries got out and dropkicked Daniels in the face. The action went to the floor and back to the ring as Aries hit a spinning bodyblock. Daniels recovered and took over on Aries, attacking his neck. Aries fought out of a chinlock and got a two count. Daniels got back on the offensive despite the crowd being split down the middle. Daniels hit a springboard moonsault onto Aries back and got two. Aries got out of a suplex and hit a drop toe hold. Aries got a second wind and hit what looked like a standing shooting star for two. Aries put Daniels in a corner and dropkicked him in the face. Aries got another two count but Daniels hit an STO but missed the BME. Aries went to the top and hit a 450 splash but Daniels grabbed the bottom rope to break the pin. Daniels hit another STO but the referee saw his feet on the ropes and stopped the count. As Daniels argued with the referee, Aries got a school boy and backslide for two but Daniels won with the Angel’s Wings.
Shane Douglas spoke to America’s Most Wanted about teaming with their sworn enemies the Naturals. Jeff Jarrett spoke to AMW, kissing their asses to win them to his side. Jarrett clamied a new tag team could be coming to take AMW’s spot in TNA. They replayed the background video on Jerry Lynn and Sean Waltman.
(6) Jerry Lynn defeated “Syxx-Pac” Sean Waltman.
This is Jerry Lynn’s first time in a TNA ring since recovering from shoulder surgery and I think the first time these two men have been adversaries since their days in GWF. Lynn tried to play mind games with Waltman, riding him on the mat and exchanging armbars. The crowd seemed to be cheering for both men during a test of strength but Waltman got control with chest chops but Lynn got in a head scissor which sent Waltman to the floor. Lynn went to the top rope and hit Waltman with a bodyblock. Lynn went for a head scissor but Waltman blocked it and tossed Lynn into the ringpost shoulder first. Waltman returned to the ring and Lynn beat the ten count by Rudy Charles. Waltman went right to work on Lynn’s left arm and shoulder. As the match went on Sonjay Dutt, Chris Sabin and Shark Boy stood at the top of the rampway. Waltman kept attacking Lynn’s shoulder. Waltman hit a shoulder breaker for a two count but missed the Bronco Buster. Lynn got in a head scissor but Waltman sidesteppd Lynn who went to the floor. Waltman followed out with a tope’ of sorts. Both men got on the apron as Waltman tried to suplex Lynn into the ring but Lynn blocked it and suplexed Waltman to the floor!! Both men beat the ten count as Lynn hit Waltman with a missile dropkick. Lynn kept on the offensive hitting a sitout power bomb for two. Lynn went for the Cradle Piledriver but his arm gave out and Waltman hit the X Factor. Lynn got the count stopped by his foot dropping on the rope. Waltman hit a top rope bodyblock but Lynn floated over into a two count. Both men traded pinning combinations but Lynn’s tombstone was blocked by Waltman who hit one of his own for two. Waltman got on Lynn’s shoulders for a victory roll but Lynn dropped into a pin. After the match Waltman and Lynn shook hands and hugged. All seemed well until Waltman hit Lynn with an armbreaker. Waltman tossed Lynn into the crowd and laid Lynn’s arm on the ring barricade. Then Waltman hit Lynn’s arm with the chair. Shark Boy, Sabin and Dutt ran down to stop Waltman from doing further damage.
Shane Douglas spoke to Team Canada about their match with the Naturals and AMW. Team Canada claimed the issues between the Naturals and AMW would be their undoing.
(7) Team Canada (Petey Williams, Bobby Roode, “Showtime” Eric Young and A1) defeated NWA World Tag Team champions the Naturals (Chase Stevens/Andy Douglas w/Jimmy Hart) and America’s Most Wanted (“Tennessee Cowboy” James Storm and “Wildcat” Chris Harris).
This match really ticks me off. AMW and the Naturals have been beating each other up around America for the last three years, now they are TEAMING UP!! I don’t buy the “we are united to beat Team Canada” line they used on Impact the other evening, something stinks in this partnership. In the opening minutes it seemed like the Naturals and AMW team was working well. That is until Storm hit Williams with a spinning slam and Roode came in with a chop block to Storm’s left knee. Team Canada made several tags trying to destroy Storm’s knee no matter how many times Storm went to tag out. Storm made a tag to Harris who took on Team Canada by himself. Harris tagged out to Stevens who kept on the offensive until Team Canada distracted the referee and Eric Young kicked Stevens right in the crotch. Team Canada tried to wear down Stevens with chinlocks but Stevens refused to submit. Young went up top but Stevens climbed up and hit an enziguri which sent young down to the floor. Stevens tagged out to Douglas as Team Canada made an exchange. The Naturals hit Young with the Natural Disaster but Roode hit the reverse clothesline to Douglas. Harris hit the Catatonic as Roode was set for another clothesline but Storm got in a superkick. The fighting went to the floor even as Harris brought Roode and Stevens off the top rope. All hell broke loose until Stevens ran into Storm by accident and Roode rolled up Stevens with a handful of tights. After the match AMW and The Naturals seemed close to fighting but TNA security and referees hit the ring to break it up.
Shane Douglas tried to interview Samoa Joe but Joe wouldn’t answer any questions until threatened Joe. Joe seemed like he was going to hit Douglas but walked away. A recap of the X Cup tourney played as “Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels joined Mike Tenay and Don West for commentary.
(8) In the Super X cup finals, Samoa Joe defeated “the Phenomenal” AJ Styles.
The winner of the match gets a shot at World X Division champion “Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels in the near future. Daniels has repeatedly called this whole thing the “Chris Daniels Invitational.” Styles tried to get Joe on the mat but Joe wasn’t having it until he missed a kick to Styles thigh. Styles got Joe up for a slam and dropped a knee on his face for two. Styles went for a discus punch but Joe blocked it and Ole kicked Styles to the floor. Joe followed him out with a forearm tope. Joe hit Styles with a chair but Styles fought back and brought the match back to the ring. Styles used all his strength to try and suplex Joe. Styles locked in a modified STF but Joe refused to submit. Styles went for a dropkick but Joe hit the brakes. Styles went for a bodyblock but Joe hit a Spinebuster. Joe hit a boot followed by facewashes and an Ole kick. Joe looked like he was going to work on Styles’ knee but hit a back chop, boot to the face and a knee to the face. Joe locked Styles in a double handed chinlock. Styles went for a headscissor but Joe hit a powerbomb into a double legged crab, then into an STF. Neither move made Styles tap out. Styles got a second wind and attacked Joe with quick hitting moves. Styles went up for what looked like could be the Spiral Tap but Joe met him up there. Styles knocked him off and hit a slingshot bodyblock for two. Styles hit the Pele’ soccer kick and tried for the Styles Clash but Joe blocked it. Joe got a rolling pin but got two. Joe dropkicked Styles in the face but once again got two. Both men traded stiff forearms but Styles kicked Joe right in the face, enziguri style. Both men got to their feet and Styles blocked Joe’s Muscle Buster and Styles got the Human Torture Rack on but Joe’s legs knocked down the referee. Daniels hit the ring and knocked down Styles with the X title belt. Joe confronted Daniels as Styles got to his feet and knocked Daniels to the floor. This was the chance Joe needed to hit a super Muscle Buster and made Styles tap out to the Tokina or Kokina Clutch choke. Both men received a standing ovation.
An Unbreakable PPV promo played. Raven waxed on and off poetry style about Jeff Jarrett. They recapped the saga between the main event participants. Cassidy Reilly made his way into the crowd to “watch” the match.
(9) Jeff Jarrett and Rhino defeated NWA World Heavyweight champion Raven and Sabu.
Big shock the crowd chanted ECW during the intros of Raven and Sabu. Raven and Rhino fought on the floor, using the barricade as a weapon. Once the action came back to the ring Sabu tagged in to face Rhino. Sabu locked in a modified chinlock but Jarrett came in to break it up. Raven took Jarrett to the floor and cut him open with a pizza cutter as Rhino and Sabu fought on the opposite side of the ring. Raven made Jarrett bleed more with garbage can shots. Rhino and Sabu came back to the ring and the furniture came in the ring. Jarrett and Rhino took turns beating down Sabu but couldn’t get the pin or submission. Rhino went for a superplex but Sabu blocked it and hit a floatover neckbreaker. Sabu finally tagged in Raven as Sabu went to get a table to be used. Raven had Jarrett pinned but Rhino broke it up. Jarrett went for the guitar but Cassidy Reilly stopped him. Raven hit Rhino with the Raven Effect but got two. Jarrett tried to leave but Sabu tossed him back to the ring. Jarrett hit the Stroke for two as the fans in front of me wouldn’t sit the f*** down!!! I think Rhino bit Raven hard enough to draw blood. Jarrett tagged in and locked in the figure four but Raven refused to give up and give Jarrett the title shot. Jarrett to use a chair but it backfired as Raven threw it at him. Raven tagged in Sabu who hit Jarrett with a chair springboard leg lariat. Sabu hit Rhino on the floor with a chair springboard chair plancha. Raven hit Jarrett with the Raven effect but Rhino hit the GORE for two. Rhino hit Rudy Charles with a GORE. Sabu hit Rhino with a to rope splash and dropped him on the table but Abyss stopped the moonsault. Abyss sent Sabu into the table as JEFF HARDY hit the ring laying out Jarrett with a Swanton bomb. Raven got tossed on top but Rhino broke up the pin. As my view was blocked again I think Rhino got a table in the ring and ended up sending Raven into it with a GORE to win the match and the show went off the air. After the match the referee told Jarrett he doesn’t get the title shot the asked for as Rhino got the pin.
