(Recently I talked with Ron “The Truth” Killings about his career, TNA and even John Cena.)
THS: In November of 1999 you defeated A.J. Styles for the NWA Wildside Television champion, could you ever imagine at the point that both of you would be the cornerstones of TNA?
RK: Man that’s a good question, back then I knew god had blessed me with ability and talent and I was aware of the talent around me and A.J. stood out, I always thought the name speaks for itself, “phenomenal”, and when I got to Wildside we would have these matches and we just knew we had it, but I never knew that me and A.J. would be wrestling for the two top companies, wrestling together on television. It was a big shocker, a big eye opener for me.
THS: I want to talk about your first NWA world title win against Ken Shamrock, could you describe what that was like?
RK: That was one of the best privileges I could ever have been given. For one, it was against Ken Shamrock, two to be the first afro-American to win the belt, three the company had seen that much in me, and the appreciation I got from it, it was so astonishing, I don’t even think I can explain it.
THS: You have been the last African American world champion in a major promotion, do you feel it’s important for guys like Monty Brown or Elix Skipper or even yourself to rise to the top of the world title chain?
RK: I think so, I mean you got black athletes, black champions, black stars, everything is black and white, any race even if they’re blue, they deserve the same. Guys like Elix and Monty should be given that opportunity; those are the ones to look forward to keep this going.
THS: I interviewed Raven last month and I asked him to describe his WWE experience in one word, and that word was “sucked”, describe your experience in the WWE.
RK: At first, I used to talk real pissed off about it, but from my background and where I came from that was one of the best experiences in my life. My time in the end there wasn’t that great but from experience wise, coming from NWA Wildside and going to national television I think it was well deserved and well needed. It helped me grow up as a person and as a wrestler. I think that’s the way you have to look at it, when I was in the WWE, I was known worldwide and I appreciated that.
THS: You did some music while you were in the WWE, are you doing anything with your music career right now?
RK: Oh yes, big time, I’m kind of glad it didn’t happen then, right now I got my second album out, and it’s more mainstream. My first album was titled “Invincible” and it just let the fans know what happened to me with the WWF, but this one, it’s more mainstream, it has club songs on there and real life everyday things that go on.
THS: Will TNA help promote that album or is it something you will do on your own?
RK: I’m doing it on my own now, but you know if there was a way we could do it, I would like to, I’m almost finished with the recording so I would like to approach them with that.
THS: Could you beat John Cena in a rap battle?
RK: (laughing) You know I read a couple of interviews on the internet and that we said a few words and wanted to have a challenge or a rap battle, and for one, I KNOW I can beat him. John Cena is a gimmick rapper, I’ve been doing this since I was young you know? So I don’t see him as a musical, lyrical or entertainment threat at all. I wanted to do a rap battle around early TNA but he said he couldn’t, because basically it would make him look bad anyways.
THS: TNA going to SpikeTV in October is a big step for TNA, what are your thoughts on that?
RK: I think it’s well deserved. Every guy is in there busting their ass and making things happen, going through blood sweat and tears just to make it happen. It’s well deserved, and appreciated and everyone is going full blast 110%.
THS: It’s true because I watch Raw and Smackdown and I don’t see any effort, they are just going through the motions with little wrestling involved and it’s over.
RK: It’s a whole different thing that the WWE has to offer. You’ve seen what the WWE has to offer, over and over again.
THS: This Sunday you and Konnan face Monty Brown and Kip James, this feud has been dragged out for sometime will something big finally happen one way or another?
RK: I heard the fans have been wanting something big to happen in this, so for them hopefully something will.
THS: Where do you see yourself in a few years?
RK: In TNA definitely and further with my music…-
(at this point Ron’s cell phone cut out a little so I thanked him while I still could…)
Pretty good interview overall, I really hope that this feud with 3LK and the Outlaw will come to an end soon because it has been stale for a while. Besides that Sacrifice is a great card, once again TNA has delivered…
Raven/Sabu vs. Jeff Jarrett/Rhino – I’m looking at this to break off into individual feuds at least that’s what I see. This match is only worth it to see Raven and Sabu teaming together, but I’m looking for blood in this one and it should be entertaining…
WINNER: Raven & Sabu
Christopher Daniels vs. Austin Aries (X-Division Title) – Dream match. This match will be the best of the night. Hands down…maybe. They have competition with another match but this could definitely be a Match of the Year Candidate.
WINNER: Austin Aries in an upset…
Samoa Joe vs. A.J. Styles – (Super X-Cup Finals) – The other dream match of the night. This also could be Match of the Year along with the many TNA has delivered this year. I personally have never seen Joe vs. Styles and this should turn into a pure wrestling match. Nobody is stopping Joe though, remember Aries is the only wrestler to defeat Joe in the past 3 years, Aries/Joe at Bound for Glory anyone?
WINNER: Samoa Joe
The Naturals & AMW vs. Team Canada – I wish the tag titles were on the line but they shouldn’t waste this match. Either an AMW heel turn to go after the Naturals or the possible break up of Team Canada, SOMETHING has to happen in this match worthy of it’s presence…
WINNER: Team Canada
Ron Killings and Konnan vs. Monty Brown and Kip James – Same as above really…something big needs to happen in this match and I think it will. Go BG!…Kind of.
WINNER: Brown and James (with help from B-Jizzle)
Lance Hoyt vs. Abyss – So Abyss has to put over Lance Hoyt now? Yeah. Hoyt is growing a lot as a big player in TNA and a few months with Abyss should do him well. Key word few months…Abyss will win the first one.
WINNER: Abyss
Is Sacrifice worth paying 30 bucks for? If you want to see 2 pure wrestling matches mixed with some blood…of course. TNA PPV’s have been delivering for sometime now and they will only get better leading up to Bound for Glory. I say buy it. You’ll thank me later.
