WWE did their “press conference” today in Washington DC to promote SummerSlam. I watched it and there wasn’t too much of note to it when the workers came out and did their promos, other than Hulk Hogan saying he was going to lay Shawn Michaels out at SummerSlam. Shawn, “who wasn’t supposed to be there”, then came out and the two faced off. It got testy and they ended up knocking over the backdrop, making it look tense.
After that portion, Teddy Long said that even though SummerSlam has sold out, they made some more tickets available for the show. They are only available at the box office.
Then, they opened it up to questions from the fans in attendance (because of course, that is who is at press conferences right?). A fan ragged on JBL and it sure sounded like JBL said to the fan, “I already have a black man to carry my bags, I don’t need you.” I am pretty sure that is what he said. JBL is all about the heat, and for the most part, he was pretty entertaining.
Vince McMahon was asked when DC would get a WrestleMania and he avoided the question by saying it would happen when JBL became president. Then Vince said maybe someday it would happen.
A soldier who was injured in Iraq asked John Cena if she could have his camouflage hat, off of his head. He said it was the prototype for his new cap and that he would be happy to give it to her, and did.
Hogan was asked if he would ever wear the title belt again and he said it would be a dream come true.
Let’s just say that some of the fans asking questions during most of the Q and A didn’t make me proud to be a wrestling fan. Then it got good.
Teddy Long was asked when Brock Lesnar would return. Teddy kind of blew it off and said he had no idea. Vince McMahon said that the NFL season will start soon, but he doesn’t think Brock will be there either, avoiding the question. Batista then said a Lesnar-Batista match would pop a PPV and he wants Lesnar to come home to WWE.
Vince was asked when HHH and Ric Flair were coming back and he said, “Whenever they feel like it, the door’s wide open.”
After that one, Teddy said “one more question” and someone asked Hogan for his autograph. Teddy then sent it to Vince for final comments, but instead an office lackey closed the press conference out, with Vince saying nothing. It seemed like Vince had heard enough questions he didn’t want to answer.
