Whoa what a piece of garbage I witnessed last night. If I didn’t know any better I would have thought it was Thursday night Smackdown. But no it was Raw and my God what an atrocious show it was. My first thought was to just focus on the bright spots, but come on with only two really good spots and one fair segment how can I ignore what I saw. I have got to say you Pittsburgh fans rock, because even though there were moments of silence and well deserved silence there was still plenty of loud moments and I really have to give it to those fans. Okay I’m sorry to do this but here I go.
I’m not even going to bother to tell you why I loved the following, let’s just say that Edge was outstanding. He got it all out about the whole Matt/Lita/Edge situation, and I think because of his strong promo, he got things heated up very well for his match with Matt at Summer Slam. Second. I loved the main event. Now when I saw the two podiums the first thing that hit me was oh joy this will be another boring contract signing, only there won’t be a signing and the big table is now replaced by the podiums. But to my amazement this segment stole the show. If Shawn was on his game last night than I don’t know what I can about last night’s performance. This man was on. And I didn’t even mind Hogan. Hogan had some zingers of his own and this was by far the show stealer. Kurt Angle and Eugene did an okay job last night. It could not compare to the last two weeks but the opening was okay. With Kurt being in his home town, it was a given that the fans would back him 100 percent and that’s just about what happened. I heard those Eugene Sucks chants. I told you that crowd was a good one. At least now we know that these two will meet at Summer Slam and this is a match I am really looking forward too. And finally, As far as the John Cena video, I didn’t care for it, but that’s just me. I certainly will not bash this video, because I am sure no I know so many really liked it. It’s not my cup of tea but the video did not hurt the show at all. So I will not put that with all the crap I saw last night.
Sunday when I said I want to see more wrestling and less out of ring segments, I said more top matches. Not the crap that they threw out there last night. I’m going to make this short but unfortunately not sweet. Shelton Benjamin vs. Chris Masters was nothing special but what really bugged me was having Shelton job to Masters again with that Master-lock. I was not happy with the ending, and I’m really not happy that a guy like Benjamin is going nowhere at all on Raw. This guy should be up there with the top guys and it’s not happening and I don’t like it at all.
I cannot stand the Conway gimmick as I said last week, and last night seeing that gimmick and watching the match with Viscera was torture. Rob Conway is going to end up back at OVW because this gimmick will kill any chance he has of showcasing his wrestling. Did you all happen to catch the silence when he came out? It’s not going to get any better, not with him doing it the Con-way.
I want to know why they didn’t wait for Summer Slam to have Matt Hardy wrestle. His match with Gene Snitzky was senseless and it really takes away from seeing him go at it with Edge after being out so long. But I still hated the Viscera/Conway match much more than this. Rosey/Stacy and Hurricane Helms vs. The Heart Throbs and Victoria wasn’t bad, in fact for me it was the only match I tolerated. Now last week I raved about Chris Jericho. I loved how he finally showed his mean streak and took out Cena. I was so hoping that we would see that Y2J again. But it didn’t happen. Let me tell you right off, I’m a Jericholic but I did not like nor did I feel his so called friendship with Eric Bischoff. Talk about forcing an issue. This is one of the only times where I watched Jericho and saw him going through the motions. This love-fest he and Eric have just doesn’t do it for me. Then to top it off we see Eric and then Jericho abuse the referee that was responsible for John Cena’s win against Carlito last week. Referee Chad Patton was first attacked by Eric Bischoff and then his punishment was to have a match with Chris Jericho. For me this was a waste of time and I wondered when Jericho was beating up Patton why in the hell did it take Cena so long to come out to stop things. Oh I know why, because that outstanding creative team just wanted to make us all suffer through the beating before John Cena could rescue him. Not a very good segment and it certainly did add any heat to the Jericho/Cena match for Summer Slam. And the diva contest? Thankfully it was short, and truthfully it didn’t pain me like the most of the matches did. This show gave us matches but what I want are matches with HBK, Jericho against a “real” wrestler, a lengthy Kurt Angle match, and a match with Shelton against a worthy opponent. The more they are throwing these young guys in there, the more it is taking away from the show. It’s totally bringing things down. I am so disappointed by the product that was put out there last night.
Okay you might all be happy when you read what I have to say. You will be getting a mini break from me. Our nephew is getting married on Friday. My son is in the wedding so Thursday night we will be going to the rehearsal. I will not be able to see Smackdown. This will be the first Smackdown I ever missed since it started back in 1999. I will be taping it and I plan to watch it over the weekend. But since the wedding is on Friday, and there will be a brunch on Saturday, I’m taking Friday and Sunday off. So there will be no bitching from me until next Tuesday’s column. But maybe next week’s column will be all good. Listen with it being the last Raw before Summer Slam I say the odds are good for a really positive column. Have a great week and weekend and make sure you check my column out next Tuesday. And don’t forget to check out Bang TV. You won’t want to miss it. Press Release from the Funking Conservatory
