Worst Match: None.
Line of the Night: “Unlike some people in this ring Rey, I actually tell the
truth.” – Christian
Show Details: Smackdown started with a recap of Chapter 1 of Eddie’s Bedtime
Story. They altered his voice near the end to sound like Megatron. Rey
Mysterio came out to start the show. As he entered the ring, it was already
setup for the “Peep Show” and Christian was in the ring. Terrible way to
introduce the Peep Show. Christian began to explain the Eddie/Dominic
situation when Rey interrupted demanding Christian keep his word and deliver
Eddie Guerrero. Small “Eddie” chants started. Eddie’s music hit and they
piped in fake crowd heat. Eddie showed up on the titantron and started
Chapter 2 of his story. For some reason, Chapter 2 started with “Once upon a
time”. Rey kept interrupting in Spanish, so Eddie stopped. Guerrero said by
the end of the night, we would hear Chapter 2. Christian then attacked Rey
from behind and gave him the Unprettier.
Jillian Hall cut a promo backstage saying she’s carried a burden all her
entire life, which is more than she can say about everyone else. She said
it’s blemished her soul and told the cameraman to get a close-up on her
“burden”. I’m going to set the over/under on Jillian Hall’s demise (or at
least the mole’s demise) at 2.5 months. I’ll take the under.
MNMJ vs. Booker T & Chris Benoit w/Sharmell
Booker was in control of Nitro and tagged in Benoit, who received some
chants. Nitro tagged in Mercury who was met with a shoulder breaker. Some
chants started for Booker T. Benoit went for the Sharpshooter, but Nitro
pulled Mercury out of the ring and they went to commercial. Benoit hit a
couple of Germans to Nitro and Mercury. Nitro blocked another one but Benoit
was able to get him to the turnbuckle. Benoit set up for a back suplex off
the top, but Melina distracted the referee, allowing Mercury to hold
Benoit’s foot down, so Nitro could turn it around to a cross body. Benoit
used an arm drag to counter a rear chin lock, gave Mercury an enzuguri and
tagged in Booker T. Booker cleaned house hitting a shuffle kick to Nitro and
a Book End to Mercury, but Nitro broke up the cover. Benoit tossed Nitro out
of the ring and gave him the Crossface on the outside and Nitro tapped.
Booker set up for the Scissors Kick to Mercury inside the ring, but Melina
grabbed Booker’s leg off the ropes. Sharmell chased Melina into the ring but
Jillian speared Sharmell and Booker tossed Jillian out of the ring. Mercury
gave Booker a school boy and used the bottom rope for leverage to pick up
the win.
They promoted Eddie’s Chapter 2 for later tonight. Since Eddie is doing this
despite everyone else, why would it be promoted? Teddy Long congratulated
Christian on his first Peep Show episode. Long put Christian in the main
event against Rey Mysterio, which Christian didn’t like. They did a recap of
JBL/Taker from last week including Orton’s RKO.
Teddy Long, JBL and Batista entered for a contract signing. Why do they have
miscellaneous contract signings? Batista ripped the horn off JBL’s limo by
“accident”. Batista and JBL took verbal shots at each other throughout the
signing. Batista let JBL decide the stipulation for SummerSlam so JBL would
have no excuses after Batista beats him. JBL laughed at Batista’s stupidity
and made it a No Holds Barred match.
They ran down the SummerSlam card, and Hogan-Michaels was left to the end.
The RAW Rebound centered around Jericho-Cena. If I’m holding the book,
Jericho/Cena get the main event. Heidenreich and Animal beat two jobbers.
The crowd reacted well to this. Heidenreich had his face painted.
Randy Orton came out to cut the same promo he’s cut about 36 times already.
Orton said he wants to take everything away from Taker that he can, and that
he spit in the face of Taker’s legacy. Orton mentioned becoming the youngest
champion ever at SummerSlam last year, which brought no reaction. Orton
demanded an answer from the Undertaker immediately. The lights went out and
a video appeared with Taker’s voice telling Orton he would rest in peace at
SummerSlam.
They showed a promo for Boogeyman. How is this character going to translate
in the ring? Are they going to dim the lights whenever he wrestles? Eddie
was in the parking lot and greeted some woman when she arrived. He said
Chapter 2 wouldn’t be possible without her.
Rey Mysterio vs. Christian
Mysterio didn’t wait for Christian to get in the ring before he attacked
him. Mysterio hit a springboard sitting senton for a count of two. Eddie
came out with that woman and they went to commercial. During the break,
Mysterio missed a 619 attempt and Christian countered a hurricanrana into a
flapjack. Stupid commercials. After the break, Christian was in control and
nailed a gut-buster and applied an abdominal stretch. Tazz and Cole were
talking about the Eddie-Dominick situation way too much. Rey hit a
neckbreaker off the ropes. He tried for a bulldog but Christian grabbed him
and bounced Rey off the top rope. Rey went for the springboard sitting
senton but Christian met him with a dropkick. During a rest hold, “Christian
sucks” chants started. Mysterio hit a springboard cross body for two and
Christian came back with a hard clothesline. Christian went for another
gut-buster but Mysterio rolled through with a small package for a two count.
Mysterio hit a hurricanrana for two and the crowd began to chant “619”.
Mysterio missed the springboard cross body and Christian hit a gut-buster
variation for two. After a commercial break, Mysterio hit a twisting DDT for
a two count. Christian went for the Unprettier but Rey dropkicked him onto
the ropes and hit the 619 and spring board dropkick for the win. This was a
very good match, but the commercial break killed the ending.
After the match, Rey told Eddie to come to the ring. Eddie decided not to,
so Rey just remained in the ring instead of going after Guerrero. I don’t
understand this invisible wall that’s between the ring and the aisle way. It
happens all the time too, where a wrestler will stay in the ring after
getting attacked or verbally assaulted. It happened last week on RAW when
Eugene beat Angle. Angle just stood in the ring as Eugene paraded around the
ring.
Eddie told the woman, named Anna, to give Rey the Storybook so Mysterio
could read it himself. There was a blue sheet of paper inside. Guerrero said
they were custody papers for Dominick. Eddie gave Rey a chase to prove he
really loved Dominick. Mysterio told his story, which Eddie pretended to
show sympathy towards. Guerrero started laughing and said Rey just admitted
to lying to Dominick for eight years, and the courts wouldn’t give custody
to a liar. Eddie said Anna was his attorney and that he would gain custody
of Dominick next week in Chapter 3 of this ongoing story. I don’t think the
courts would give an eight year old boy to a ragging lunatic. Both guys
played this story well, but you can only do so much with such garbage.
