A major angle involving Matt Cappotelli’s injury, the OVW championship, and the end of the Thrillseekers tag team was the focus on this week’s Ohio Valley Wrestling TV Taping at the Davis Arena in Louisville, Kentucky.
The TV show opened with a somber Dean Hill explaining Matt Cappotelli’s injury and noting that after last week’s taping (where The Thrillseekers defeated MNM with stereo pinfalls to become the top contender to the OVW Southern Tag Team championship and left a question as to which of them would challenge OVW champion Brent Albright), we;d never know which of the Thrillseekers would challenge Albright due to the injury. Dean noted that OVW wasn’t sure what would happen with The Thrillseekers’ mixed tag bout, teaming with Maria against MNM and Melina at Six Flags on 8/12. Maria later noted that she didn’t know what their status are for the show. OVW also pushed Albright teaming with Chris Benoit against Daniel Puder & Ken Doane for that show.
During the show, OVW Southern Tag Team champions The Blonde Bombers cut a promo and says that they have an issue with MNM stealing Jillian Hall to become their publicist and they are going to confront MNM at Six Flags to prove they are the best team ever in OVW.
When The Thrillseekers come to ringside, Matt Cappotelli (on crutches) cuts a promo, tearing up while discussing his injury. Cappotelli says that he respects the hell out of Brent Albright for being a man and telling them that they will all wait 8 weeks to have a Triangle bout for the OVW championship. Johnny Jeter then told Cappotelli that they were the Thrillseelers, saying that “We ride and we die together” but he didn’t want to wait right weeks for his dream. Jeter said that he didn’t break his leg, but took the same abuse Cappotelli did. Jeter said he wants his shot to be champion now. They tease a heel turn, but Jeter then explains to Cappotelli that he’s always had his back and would right now if he got jumped, so Cappotelli needs to have Jeter’s back and respect his dream to become champion and support his partner. Cappotelli agrees with Jeter, which brings out Albright. Albright says that if Jeter wants his shot after they made an agreement to wait, he can have it right now.
They have an impromptu Albright title defense against Jeter, with both men wrestling a scientific bout. Jeter becomes the first man to throw a punch, but Albright evades it and locks in an ambar. Jeter teases tapping but before he does, Ken Doane and Dan Puder come to ringside and pull the referee out. Cappotelli teases a confrontation, but the referee throws the heels out from ringside. Inside the ring, Jeter is tapping out, but no one sees it as they are getting the heels out of the ringside area.
Albright finally lets the move go and starts daring everyone at ringside to fight him, saying he’ll take any or all of them on at the same time. Jeter, selling the arm, gets up and Albright turns into a superkick. Jeter scores the pin and wins the OVW title.
Cappotelli and Jeter celebrate with Cappotelli telling him that he’s accomplished his dream. Jeter tells Cappotelli that he doesn’t need him anymore and nails him with the championship belt. Jeter stands over Cappotelli, declaring himself the OVW champion and says, “I ride alone, I die alone”, a play on what they had said earlier about the Thrillseekers.
