WWE.com’s main item in hand in the RAW preview is what will probably end up being the main event of the show tomorrow – Carlito vs. John Cena for the WWE Championship. Although it’s good for the IC Champ and for the prestige of the belt itself to be in the main event and fighting against the top guy on the show, it also has its disadvantages. I must say, they’ve done a complete 180 on Carlito ever since moving him to RAW, and he’s perhaps one of the few, if not the only one, of the drafts that seems to have benefited from the switch. Cena should be winning this one, but the interference from Jericho and the interaction between the two has to be the main point here.
WWE.com is also plugging this week’s debut of “Eugene’s Invitational.” Following Dinsmore’s return last week, topped by his surprise win of Angle’s Olympic Gold Medal, you all can see where this is going. Should be a one-on-one match at SummerSlam for Angle’s belt. This could be very good if they let Eugene go, because if they do, he really can go, and Angle would be a great opponent for him. The problem here is that they’ve brought Angle to RAW, had him feud with the top players for a couple of weeks, and then immediately denoted him to the midcard with the Angle invitational, and now with a feud with Eugene. That’s a good example of over-stuffing a program, while SmackDown! is in desperate need of superstars. Something to think about.
The Diva Search is the last thing WWE.com focuses on in their preview of tonight’s show. Layla, who seems to be an interesting character from the bunch, has immunity so she won’t be the one to leave for sure. Yeah.
The feuds for SummerSlam should be taking shape on RAW with storyline progression. I don’t know what they’re going to do with Hardy, but they really, DESPERATELY at this point in time, need something other than just an attack. I don’t know how they’re going to work in a promo, having in mind his gimmick, but we’ll see. Also, I still don’t know how Kane figures into this. Lita seems to be out of the picture ever since last week. I guess this is headed to a Hardy/Kane vs. Edge/Snitsky match at SummerSlam, which is scary.
It’ll be smart of them to use Shelton Benjamin on tonight’s show and to continue the little “feud” with Bischoff.
The rest should be the usual good ol’ stuff we see on RAW on weekly basis. Waste of time promo segments, and average wrestling with a match here or there that’s somewhat of an exception.
