Big News: JBL defeated Undertaker in a number one contenders match when
Randy Orton returned to give Taker an RKO. Also, Eddie Guerrero revealed his
secret.
Turns/Title Changes: None, but Christian teased something.
Best Match: Christian & Orlando Jordan vs. Booker T & Chris Benoit
Worst Match: Melina vs. Torrie Wilson
Line of the Night: None.
Show Details: The Smackdown intro now has a shot of Animal with the tag
title belt. Teddy Long was in the ring and thanked everyone who watched the
Bash, which brought no response from the crowd. Long was about to announce
Taker versus Batista for SummerSlam, but JBL interrupted saying he should be
World Champion since Batista purposely disqualified himself. JBL found some
ridiculous loophole in the contract that stated JBL should get a title shot
at SummerSlam if he were to beat Batista at GAB but not walk out as
Champion. Whatever. Teddy Long made a Number One Contender’s match between
JBL and Undertaker for tonight.
Christian & Orlando Jordan vs. Booker T & Chris Benoit
Jordan’s shoulder was taped because of chair shots from Batista at GAB. The
faces attacked the heels before the match started sending them out of the
ring. Benoit went for the Crossface after Booker threw Jordan in the ring,
but Christian broke it up and tagged in. Benoit was picking Christian apart
and knocked OJ off the apron. OJ proceeded to trip Benoit from the outside
and tagged in. Jordan tired to expose the turnbuckle like he did on Sunday,
but Booker stopped him. After the heels worked over Benoit, he hit Christian
with a belly to belly suplex and tagged Booker T. Booker hit the Book End to
Christian but Jordan pulled his partner out of the ring. Benoit did a
baseball slide to OJ and Christian on the outside of the ring and they went
to commercial break as Cole said Benoit and Booker were rolling, which
clearly isn’t what was happening. After the break, Booker hit Christian with
a spine buster and did the Spinarooni. Book went for the Scissors Kick, but
OJ cut him off with a clothesline. “Booker T” chants started. Christian hit
a spinning heel kick, which I haven’t seen from him in a while. Christian
reversed a side kick into a reverse DDT but Benoit broke up the count.
Christian came off the top rope but Booker met him with a jumping side kick.
Both sides tagged and Benoit went crazy. He hit a vertical suplex to OJ then
a vertical to Christian on top of OJ. He hit Jordan with the triple Germans
and gave a German to Christian. Benoit hit the headbutt to Jordan but
Christian broke up the count. Benoit locked the Crossface on Jordan.
Christian had the chance to break it up, but decided not to and Jordan
tapped out. They played up the Christian thing after the match.
Animal had Heidenreich shave his hair into a mohawk. They ran the Eddie/Rey
story from GAB. Cole said Eddie wouldn’t be here tonight, even though he was
supposed to be in action. Animal and Heidenreich squashed two jobbers.
Backstage Melina told MNM she hired a publicist for them. They wanted to
know if she was hot. Jillian Hall debuted as MNM’s “fixer”. When she turned
around, you could see her large gimmick mole. After she left, Mercury asked
Nitro if he would still do her. More unnecessarily bad material. This is
also a bad angle for MNM, who should still be tag champs.
Rey Mysterio came out with his son Dominick. Rey thanked the crowd for their
support. Eddie Guerrero came out and said he was going to tell the story
anyway. I wonder why they trusted the heel to begin with. Mysterio begin
started up the aisle way to stop Eddie, but Guerrero spilled the beans.
Guerrero said he’s Dominick’s father. Rey went back to the ring where
Dominick was, but Dominick ran off. Rey went after him. Eddie continued his
story, saying Rey and his wife asked Eddie for the favour, since Rey was
shooting blanks. Guerrero said there would be a second, more interesting
chapter next week. What a terrible angle this has become.
Melina w/Jillian vs. Torrie Wilson w/Candice Michelle
Jillian kept parting her hair back which continued to expose her mole, which
would never happen in real life. Tazz described the mole to Michael Cole,
who was screeching like a little girl. This was a long match and a long
beat-down by Melina. It’s like they extended the match on purpose to get as
many shots of Jillian as possible. Torrie made a comeback but Melina won
with her feet on the ropes, sort of.
Backstage, the Assistant Concessions manager told the Mexicools to get back
to work. After he felt, the Mexicools decided to do it for fun.
William Regal vs. Scotty 2 Hotty
The Mexicools interrupted the match and started handing out popcorn and
drinks. They proceeded to beat up the referee, Scotty and Regal. I wouldn’t
have used Regal here unless they’re going somewhere with this.
JBL w/OJ vs. Undertaker – Number One Contender’s Match
Taker worked the ribs of JBL which were taped because of the damage from
Batista. Taker was in total control of this match for a long while. JBL
poked Taker in the eye to gain control, which was a sad transition given the
amount of offence Taker had previously. JBL went to the top rope, but Taker
cut him off and hit a spine buster off the second rope. Taker gave JBL the
snake eyes spot and followed by giving OJ a big boot knocking him off the
apron. When Taker turned around JBL met him with a Clothesline from Hell,
sending Taker out of the ring and into a commercial break. After the break,
a beaten up Taker was rolled into the ring by Orlando Jordan. Taker was able
to regain offence and hit the old school spot followed by a downward spiral
for two. Jordan distracted the referee which allowed JBL to hit Taker with a
low blow and a DDT for a count of two. Taker made a comeback and hit a big
boot and leg drop for a two count. Taker knocked JBL into the referee, which
looked bad. Taker fought off Orlando Jordan but knocked out the ref yet
again. Taker hit the Tombstone and had the win, but the ref was still out.
Randy Orton ran down and RKO’d Taker and JBL won.
