I was going to start off by saying I did not care for Raw much last night. Yet I’m going to list so many positives that I guess I’m going to rephrase it, and say while I don’t think it was one of the strongest Raw’s the good outweighed the bad making Raw a decent show. Let me just do what I like to do the most, hit you with what I was not happy about and then on to the positives. Now I’m going to leave out some of the crap out because I don’t want to waste my time on certain segments. There are two things that really bothered me and that’s the two negatives I want to talk about.
Two weeks ago I remember saying that Chris Masters should be teamed up with someone and last night he was. Gene Snitzky was the lucky guy to join Masters in a handicap match against Shelton Benjamin. Okay I could live with this match; I was fine with it that is until Shelton succumbed to that lame Masterlock. I know he broke out of it the first time but the second one got him. Now this bothered me, a man like Benjamin losing because of the Masterlock just didn’t cut it for me. No it won’t make Benjamin look weak, but I’m sick of that ridiculous move coming off like it is THE move of wrestling.
Now the second thing that bugged me was the Matt Hardy run in. Three weeks straight it’s the same crap. Last week the run in did nothing for me, this week it did even less for me. Enough of this already. Eric Bischoff or really Vince McMahon next week should show up, address this issue and end the “surprise” appearances by Matt Hardy. If I see Johnny Ace come out in that same green shirt one more time I’m going to well I don’t know what I’m going to do but WWE is really screwing this all up. It’s time for Matt to be recognized as a guy that is back with WWE.
Okay that’s it those two things really got to me. Sure the hot dog eating contest was so bad, but now on to some of Raw’s highlights. When Kurt Angle came out to challenger another home town guy, I knew I really did know that it would be Eugene since they worked last weekend’s house shows. I knew as soon as Christy came out that Eugene would be next. I’m going to tell you right now this was such an upbeat and entertaining segment. I kept telling my husband if they had any brains they would let Eugene win and take Kurt’s medal. And sure enough that’s what happened. This was done brilliantly and I really thought with such a great opening match the show would be off the page, unfortunately that wasn’t the case. But as I said I’m thrilled about Eugene’s win, and the prospect of Kurt Angle being in Summer Slam and going against Eugene. Just think with Angle’s humor and Eugene’s humor this could be one hell of a feud.
This was one of my top matches of the show; the other had to be the Stretcher match. Honestly my expectations were not high for this one, but I will tell you just like last week’s cage match this was excellent. Kane has shown me a lot lately. I’m not a big Kane fan, partially because they have ruined his character so many times. But I have enjoyed his work with his back to back performances. Kane along with Edge have done all they can to please the fans, and I totally loved this match last night. I was also thrilled that Lita finally got what she had coming. I have been waiting for a long time to see Kane give her a Tombstone. So even though Kane lost he managed to come out the winner. By the way if you go to wwe.com they are playing up Kane kidnapping Lita. Yeah he was arrested in Cleveland for the kidnapping. I’m not sure if I’m into that story, but what the hell Kane finally took care of the ex-wife.
I am not into rap, I’m a metal kind of girl, but I thought John Cena and his group did a hell of job. He was smooth it all flowed and I was pleasantly surprised. Now I can’t say his in ring work does it for me, because he seems to be the King of Clotheslines, but I did like the main event. Carlito did a nice job, and with Chris Jericho as the ref, this match just worked for me. I also want to say not only was the Cleveland crowd hot for Cena and the match but the Cleveland crowd was hot almost throughout the show. I was very impressed with them. And I will close with something else I was impressed with. That would be Shawn Michaels finally deciding to play a cocky heel and come up with some good lines about his enemy Hulk Hogan. I will admit it would have been great to have Hogan there live taking in all of Shawn’s nasty remarks, but like so many of you have told me Hulk can’t commit to working on a regular basis which is kind of sad since he’s main eventing Summer Slam with HBK.
Anyway Shawn really popped with some strong comments, comments that seemed to get cheers from a lot of the fans that were their live. My favorite parts were, “it’s the same old tired stuff for 20 years,” and the best he can do is turning his ear to the crowd.” Shawn was ON and this by far was the BEST promo he’s cut since the so called heel turn. While this feud is no where near the Rock/Hogan feud a few years ago, last night Shawn managed to heat things up beautifully. For me this was the highlight of the night.
So you see Raw wasn’t bad, there was plenty to keep you entertained. Now it’s on to Smackdown. Honestly, I am not happy with some of the winners from the Great American Bash. MNM losing is a major mistake. I don’t care if it’s for a week or until Summer Slam it goes against me. Just a bunch of things have turned me off about Smackdown. I am not looking forward to watching the show. It seems like the Guerrero/Mysterio angle is far from done, and that should have ended a while ago. I hope to have something very positive on Friday about the show, but JBL winning on a DQ means to me he’s back in the title race and again I can do without that. So we well see what Smackdown gives us on Thursday. Okay I don’t usually do this but a reader of mine is having trouble reaching a girlfriend of his. He tells me she reads my columns so here we go. “Lucy, Chairboy loves you.”
And finally a reader of mine is very upset about Hassan being taken off TV. He has a petition, so if anyone is interested in signing it here it is,
