As you may or may not be aware, the ”music” which accompanied the footage of the ‘terrorist attack’ was in fact the Muslim call to prayer. This is almost certain to raise complaints from some Arab/Muslim organizations, and people who found the depiction of Hassan as an Islamic extremist distasteful.
It looks like the WWE wanted a swan song of controversy before killing off Hassan, and decided to go with the Muslim fanatic/terrorist angle which they had previously denied using. All in all, a stupid ending to what was a promising heel character.
