Worst Match: None
Line of the Night: None
Show Details: A recap of Meanie beating JBL showed. Eddie Guerrero came out
and said Rey wouldn’t be on Smackdown tonight, which is a bad message to
start the show. Eddie said he could make Rey do whatever he wants, and
showed footage from two weeks ago when he did just that. Wrestlers are
showing video footage a lot more over the past few months. Eddie started to
tell a story, leading into the secret. Before anything could get out,
Eddie’s wife and daughters walked out. Vicki told him not to say anything.
She was pretty good on the mic. Eddie forced her and the kids out. They were
piping in a lot of fake heat during this segment. This is a horrible
direction for Eddie Guerrero. Turning him heel was a colossal mistake. After
a commercial break, Eddie and Vicki were arguing backstage. Bob Holly tried
to calm Eddie down, which I found funny. They pushed each other around,
putting a dent in Vicki’s white rental car.
Mexicools vs. Paul London, Funaki & Scotty 2 Hotty
With the referee distracted, Juvi sent Scotty shoulder-first into the steel
post. Juvi and Psicosis hit a double drop toe hold plus a double dropkick to
the head. Super Crazy and Juvi tried to double team Scotty again, but Funaki
pulled Super Crazy out of the ring and Scotty hit Juvi with a flying
forearm. Outside the ring, Super Crazy had no problem dealing with Funaki,
despite Funaki being the original aggressor. Paul London made the tag and
cleaned house in exciting fashion. Psicosis tried to pull London off the top
rope, but Scotty pulled him down. Once again, Psicosis took down the
aggressor in Scotty. The referee was distracted by this, allowing Super
Crazy to push London off the top rope and hit a moonsault. Juvi hit a 450
splash and his shin went straight into the head of Paul London. The
Mexicools came out of this match looking very good.
Christian was backstage showing off to Candice. Christian said he’s a big
star and all the young guys on Smackdown look up to him. Booker T
interrupted and challenged Christian to a match tonight. Booker said this
was Smackdown, where you have to earn respect. I guess Booker’s had a change
of heart since last year when he was drafted. Josh Matthews interviewed
Batista, who said JBL was a bully. He suggested that you deal with bullies
by punking them out and beating them up. Well, that’s really only good
advise if your 6’5” and 320 pounds. Elsewhere, Melina punked out Torrie
Wilson. She said Torrie is the top girl on Smackdown. I guess with Dawn
Marie no longer around, that’s the sad reality. Melina said Torrie’s only
been on top because she’s had no competition, so Torrie challenged her to a
bra and panties match at Great American Bash.
Heidenreich made his way out to the ring but was ambushed by MNM. Road
Warrior Animal made his way out to a big pop. He tossed MNM out of the ring.
Animal was offended by MNM claiming to be the greatest tag-team of all time.
Mercury challenged the Road Warriors to a tag title match at GAB. Nitro said
that can’t happen because Animal’s partner is dead, which brought laughs
from the tag champs. Heidenreich asked to be Animals partner, and he
accepted.
Eddie Guerrero vs. Hardcore Holly
Holly and Eddie exchanged slaps to the face as the crowd chanted “Eddie
sucks”. Holly chopped Eddie down but Guerrero poked Holly in the eye and
came back with chops of his own. Holly was able to knock Eddie out of the
ring and they went to commercial. Holly hit a couple of arm drags to Eddie
but Guerrero came back hitting a drop toe hold sending Holly face first onto
the bottom turnbuckle. Eddie choked Holly with the bottom rope and applied a
choke with a leg scissors. Holly muscled his way to his feet as Eddie
climbed the ropes with his legs still wrapped around Holly, and Holly hit an
electric chair drop. Holly followed with a full nelson slam for two.
Hardcore hit a clothesline off the top ropes but Eddie kicked out. Holly
took Guerrero out of the ring, but Eddie was able to throw Holly into the
steel post. Eddie accidentally poked the referee in the eye, and hit Holly
in the left leg with a pipe. Guerrero applied the Texas Cloverleaf in the
ring and Holly tapped. After the match, Guerrero apologized to Vicki.
Someone in the crowd was yelling at him, so Guerrero told him to shut up
because he’s trying to apologize to his wife. Eddie challenged Rey to a
match at GAB. He said if Rey wins, he won’t tell the secret, but if Eddie
wins, he will. If I was Eddie Guerrero, I’d make it the other way around. I
know I can’t beat Rey, so force Rey to job. This would allow Eddie to pick
up a win and move on to title contention.
Muhammad Hassan’s attorney came out to read a prepared statement. I can
almost feel the ratings drop. This guy was actually pretty good and was
making some pretty valid points. He said Hassan wouldn’t appear on Smackdown
until he defeats Undertaker at Great American Bash. Undertaker came out
showing no ill affects from the attack last week, and choke slammed the
attorney. Cole pushed this as a heelish act, saying Taker crossed the line.
Booker T vs. Christian
As Booker made his way out, Christian ambushed Booker and gave him a
beat-down on the outside of the ring before the match could even start.
Christian pushed Booker in the ring and tried to attack him, but Nick
Patrick held Christian off until Booker could get to his feet. The bell rang
for the match to start, Christian hit the Unprettier, and Christian won.
Wow. Why couldn’t they have been booking Christian like this from the start?
At 24 minutes before the hour, they said “Orlando Jordan vs. Batista is Up
Next”. Well after a lot of nothing, the match start time is 8 minutes before
the hour. Before the match, JBL delivered a message from the department of
redundancy department.
Orlando Jordan w/JBL vs. Batista – Non-title
Batista came out to a huge ovation. Batista was in control before JBL
tripped him from the outside. Jordan then dropkicked Batista to the outside
of the ring and distracted the referee allowing JBL to ram Batista’s head
into the steel steps. Jordan cut Batista down from the knees and continued
to work the leg. OJ distracted the referee again and JBL swung Batista leg
around the steel pole. Batista fought back with right hands to OJ and a back
body drop. Batista drove Jordan into the corner and followed with a
clothesline and powerslam. Jordan knocked the referee out by accident and
Batista hit the spinebuster. He was getting ready for the Batista Bomb, but
JBL smashed a steel chair over Batista head. However, Batista kicked out and
gave JBL a clothesline of his own. He hit the Batista Bomb and picked up the
win. JBL hit Batista with the Clothesline from Hell after the match and
stood tall holding the World Heavyweight Title.
