Well, here comes the pain. Again. That’s right, Brock Lesnar whose been in a bitter lawsuit with his former (soon to be) employer World Wrestling Entertainment to get the no compete contract lifted, may be in the WWE once again. And sooner then you may think. When Lesnar decided to sue the WWE, I wondered deep down in my mind what Brock must of been thinking. After all, WWE and Vince McMahon beat the federal government in the mid nineties. Whose to say they couldn’t beat someone they helped shape and mold as a superstar and an employee in court? Now Brock has the money, and probably a good legal team, but their was no way he knew in his right mind that he could beat a billion dollar company in court. No way. So what was Brock thinking? Thinking maybe Total Nonstop Action wrestling would join the fight, bail Brock out, and make him NWA champion? Ok, ok. I know that’s probably not what happened. So what did happen? Why would Brock sue his former employer to get a contract lifted that said he couldn‘t compete in any other wrestling or fighting company? To wrestle at TNA or in Japan? To train to be a cage fighter, and become UFC champion? Something tells me Brock Lesnar wasn’t worried about competing in any other federation. Or that he wanted to be a cage fighter. Something tells me Brock wanted back into the WWE family, and he wasn’t willing to go down without a fight.
Brock knew first hand that it would be a fight when Vince didn’t welcome him back with open arms, and cave when Brock Lesnar said he would come back ONLY if he had a reduced schedule. Vince McMahon doesn’t have the motto “don’t cross the boss” for anything. He was going to make Brock work for that WWE contract once again. He just wasn’t going to beg Brock to come back, and offer him whatever demands he wanted. It’s the other way around, and Brock would be the one on his hands and knees. Lesnar was good, but not that good. So what Vince do? Vince said no deal. Brock wanted a reduce schedule, Vince said no, and the deal was off. That simple. Brock then sued WWE, and tried to get the no compete contract lifted. I seriously doubt, 100% doubt, Brock went against WWE in court in order to get it lifted. He wanted WWE to come back to offering table. And eventually they did. Now WWE.com is reporting that Lesnar and McMahon meet last week, and WWE is playing it off like theirs a possibility Brock may not come back to the WWE. If you believe that, Vince played you like a fiddle. Brock Lesnar is coming back to the WWE. He claims he was immature, and that wrestling is in his blood. Yes, he was immature. And yes, wrestling is in his blood. But what drove Brock Lesnar to beg and plead, and go through desperate measure like lawsuits to get WWE’s attention, and get them back to the offering table?
Was it the money? The fame? The ego? Possibly even the fans? I don’t know that it was just one thing. It was a little bit of everything. Lesnar knew he couldn’t make it in the NFL, he already tried that and failed horribly. He knew he wasn’t going to do anything major that didn’t involve wrestling, but he was stupid and signed his soul to the devil telling Vince he wouldn’t compete anywhere else but for the boys in Stamford. So you know what? He’s back in Stamford. And soon he’ll be back in the World Wrestling Entertainment franchise once again. He’ll be getting his second helping, and SmackDown will finally have it’s top superstar again. I question wonder Vince knew Brock was coming back all a long. I’ve heard the arguments. John Bradshaw Layfield was the transitional champion. Much like Diesel was the transitional champion back in 1994, when he held the title much of the length that JBL did. Layfield wasn’t Brock’s replacement, he was Brock’s fill in. McMahon is smart. A lot smarter then I thought. Do you think maybe he knew that the NFL had no place for Brock!? And that it was only a matter of time before Lesnar came back pleading. I sure do.
Brock wanted his second helping, because Vince made him want it. Vince McMahon cornered and caged Brock Lesnar. McMahon knew he was chasing a dream, and a dream that would never be a reality. Lesnar left millions of dollars, a stable job, and a loving wrestling family to become a football player. Vince McMahon deep down, knew Brock Lesnar couldn’t do it. That’s why Vince made Brock sign the no compete contract when Lesnar left. Brock couldn’t wrestle. Brock couldn’t do mix martial arts, or ultimate fighting. He couldn’t make it in the NFL. So with him cornered and caged, what would Brock Lesnar do?
Come back to the World Wrestling Entertainment. Come back to SmackDown. Come back to the family he barely left. Come back for a second helping.
And boy, it couldn’t be any sweeter!
