I always have said that I am a very lucky woman to be doing what I do. I have made so many wonderful friends such from being a columnist. I had the pleasure of interviewing Rob Van Dam twice, and now I have been asked by the director of a new and very good movie to view it and then review it. At first as much as I wanted to do this I worried. What if this movie is horrible? I would feel terrible to give it a negative review when the director was kind enough to think of me for this project. Well I agreed to it and I am so glad that I did. The movie is 101 Reasons Not To Be A Pro Wrestler and I spent this past Saturday night sitting and watching a movie that really meant a lot to me.
I have never reviewed a movie before, well that’s not quite true. When I first started my son and I saw Beyond the Mat, and I did a very small review of it. And I remember I wrote it up rather poorly, because this was all so new to me. So I’m not sure if I will do this movie justice but let me share some of the reasons why every wrestling fan should see this. First you can only get this movie online it will not be released in stores. At the end of my column I will have the link for you. But I will tell you I don’t think you will regret purchasing this film, because you get an honest view of what it’s like to be in the business by some major names in wrestling. There are interviews with Diamond Dallas Page, New Jack, Sean O’Haire, Joanie Laurer, Rikishi, Vampiro, Tylene Buck, just to name a few. I got a really good idea of just what goes on behind the scenes in wrestling and what so many of these people have to put up with.
I don’t want to give a lot away, but I loved some of the questions that the stars of this movie were asked. Questions like what there feelings are on the internet. DDP is asked how he feels about Ric Flair comments on DDP his book. Joanie is asked about Triple H. And Tylene Buck has plenty to say and drops a few names which makes things very interesting. This movie is definitely no holds barred, anything goes, anything is said and that’s why I just was so intrigued by it.
As I said there are many wrestlers in 101 Reasons Not To Be A Pro Wrestler, but for me the two stars main stars of this movie were New Jack and Sean O’Haire. I don’t even think I saw New Jack in ECW when I started watching. I definitely knew all about him, and how EXTEME this man was. But watching him in this movie really gave me some insight on just what makes this man tick. He’s loaded with personality and he says anything he damn well wants too. You also have to see his match against this 75 year old man. That’s right he’s 75 years old. New Jack handles him as if the guy was Sabu or any ECW wrestler. I have to admit as I watched this I was quite upset. New Jack just went berserk on this man. I don’t know what the hell Jack was thinking when this match took place.
As for Sean O’Haire this man is extremely outspoken. Let me tell you I saw such a different side of him than when he was on WWE. Sean answers just about anything asked of him, and you can tell that the WWE left a very bitter taste in his mouth. I guess I have to say I was very surprised by the way he handled himself. While I didn’t think his mic work was much in the WWE, he is a very articulate speaker and I’ll tell you I looked forward to his segments and to what he had to say, since he was so willing to participate in this film. Another guy that impressed me was Vampiro. He says anything that’s on his mind. I saw him as a very honest, open person. He has a sense of humor that I guess I didn’t see in the WCW, and he’s a character. Joanie Laurer started out pretty stable but the more you saw of her the more she became that Joanie Laurer many of us have seen on Howard Stern’s show. And as much as I could do without her in this, showing her going downhill was just a way to show what the business can do to someone.
I could go on and on but you have to see this first hand. The director Michael Moody did a fabulous job knowing just what kind of movie to make to appeal to all of us wrestling fans. He gave us an inside look at just what goes on and how competitive this sport really is. Again I recommend this film to every wrestling fan out there, I really wish this movie would play in theaters; it deserves to be showcased throughout the country. But as I said you can only get it online and here’s the link, www.HollymoodEntertainment.com. When you got to the site you will get to see a trailer for the movie and a look at other features. So please at least check it out.
Michael Moody thank you so much for thinking of me and giving me the opportunity to watch this excellent film. Like so many other things in wrestling, I’m still talking about it to my husband, son and a few friends, and I’m sure that I will be re-watching it again when my son plans on seeing it.
This was an eye opener for me and I took a lot away from it. So again thank you.
