With the expansion of the American populous into areas previously uninhabited, there are encounters with things that may be explained but remain misunderstood.
The most obvious of these perils lies in the wildfires of California. Year after year countless intelligent teenagers hell-bent on forcing the unintelligent to conform, yell loudly at their newspapers and weekly news magazines at the foolish behavior of ego centric elitists that feel that their money and prestige can protect them from the most uncompromising force of all, nature.
Earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes and extreme temperatures are all part of living on the bird shaped continent known as North America. (Bear with me class). But only two things on this earth are more certain to cause despair and anguish unmatched by these forces of nature; wildfires and the WWE.
Vince McMahon and the WWE will never make an official statement regarding their reasoning behind the rash of releases during this unusually muggy summer in the Northeast. However, he need not say a word. There should be no pity cast for those dismissed as easily as errant crumbs from the lip of an overzealous eater. NO. Countless columnists will take their hormone pills and whine about how the WWE has screwed us again. Again, NO.
The only thing illogical about the releases made this week is that many of these superstars were just traded. The eternal optimist will find no logic in this. But when you pay the cost to be the boss these decisions can be made if only because the boss feels like it.
The wildfires that sweep across the dried brush of Southern California almost annually ruin the lives of those that live lavishly in “the hills” inside of homes that only Barbie might live in. And every year we are treated to countless hours of footage of giant, water carrying helicopters trying in vain to stem the tide of the flames. Just like the wrath of the WWE firing squad, you can not stop it, you can only hope to contain it.
So goes the demise of the careers several WWE superstars created. Did you not see this coming people? The Dudleyz have been off of TV for more than a year. Their role in the legendary TLC matches are only as valuable as the cost of the DVDs they have been etched onto. They are owed nothing. The writing staff had nothing for them so they are gone. Don’t cry, you did not miss them anyway.
Vince seems to always be right. Do you even remember the character JBL played prior to this incarnation? No. He took he weaker half of a tag team and turned him into a wrestling GOD. HHH deserves the title as many times as he can obtain it. Look what happens to PPV buy rates when the title is on someone else’s waist. He made Hogan and he can break Hogan. While you may not immediately accept the decisions Vince McMahon makes, his track record sans Mordecai is near perfect. Be honest, you forgot that Jannety, Gangrel and Akio were even on WWE rosters; So why pay them to hang around? You don’t build an empire by being a softy. Vince McMahon and the WWE have shown the testicular fortitude necessary to run a great business.
Besides, bringing Brock Lesnar back would have a much greater impact on ratings than Kenzo, Spike or any of the other “losers” that were cut combined.
“Losers” are what Richard Nixon called “the Silent Majority.” The good guys, role models and stand up leaders that create a moral fiber in which we can all be proud. Some may choose to call them punks. The decision made by most of the WWE wrestlers to be good company men is and has been a disservice to the business and the fans. Unless polygamy makes a return or Vince has more daughters, the Paul Levesque method of job security is no longer available. Gutless, spineless cowards have allowed the monopolization of the industry to create working conditions suitable for Soviet Russia and the Eastern Bloc.
The decision for these performers to not unionize and gain some semblance of job security is quite simply their own fault. This time next year good guys like Booker T, Big Show, Heidenreich, Hurricane& Rosey, Nunzio, RVD, Steven Richards and Victoria will make up the list of released superstars. Before you begin the pity party, reflect on the fact that the WWE has never suffered from the roster cuts it has made. Smart businessmen must make cruel choices. If the victims of the cuts don’t like it, they should look in the mirror.
