What a horrible week it’s been for many of us. By that I mean WWE really did a lot of damage especially by releasing some talent that I feel still should be with the company. I know this should be my Smackdown column, and I will have a few things to say about Smackdown, but I have so much on my mind. Not only will I talk about the releases, but again I have a few thoughts on Brock Lesnar, Hulk Hogan and while watching Smackdown I saw a tasteless and disgusting segment. I know I made a comment in Tuesday’s column that today my Smackdown column would be a lot more pleasant than what I wrote about Raw, but unfortunately not only am I down from what has gone on but most of you have emailed me with the same rotten feeling that I have.
Where to begin. Okay let’s go with Smackdown first. For the most part Smackdown was good. I found the opening with the BWO to be something different for a change. I was totally into the Eddie Guerrero/Rey Mysterio angle. I thought Eddie was magnificent on the mic last night and the two played off so well against each other. And since I have probably the most intelligent bunch of readers, I now see what most of you feel will happen. That the secret between Guerrero and Mysterio is that Eddie is Dominic’s father. It certainly is looking like that’s the way things are going. I loved MMN vs. Eddie and Rey. And watching Eddie’s face show such disappointment when he thought Rey had the edge over MNM was great. I totally enjoyed Chris Benoit vs. Booker; however I really wished that the match would have been a lot longer than it was. The main event with Batista vs. Christian was good. I just have one small problem I’m not seeing Christian on Smackdown as the SUPERSTAR that he was just starting to be on Raw. He lost last week to JBL and last night to Batista. I really wanted to see Christian by pass JBL as the top heel. But I don’t see that happening at all now and I’ll tell you why in a little bit.
Remember how big I was about the Mexicools? And many of you warned me not to be so high on them since they will be made the joke of Smackdown because of the way they are stereotyped. Well last night I saw that. I’m afraid that Juvi, Super Crazy and Psicosis in the very short time that they have been on Smackdown are now becoming a cruel joke and a way to put down Mexicans. I want to see these three guys wrestle and kick ass. And giving them mic work to do is fine too. I get it that they come out with all the “so called” items Mexicans are supposedly known for, but enough is enough. Smackdown needs strong matches. I don’t know why Vince McMahon sees making fun of someone’s background so much more important than giving the fans decent matches. I had and I do have high hopes for these three guys, but my thing is let them show their talents in the ring. The fans will love it and they will add so much to Smackdown. However, the worst thing on last night’s show was the disgusting and tasteless segment with Hassan’s “terrorists” coming out and destroying the Undertaker. First let me say this, my heart breaks for all the innocent victims of yesterday’s bombings in London. I have been glued to my TV since yesterday. I have nothing but praise for the way the British are going about their normal way of living, sending a message to these murderers that they are not going to stop them for living. And instead of Vince and UPN sending the right message to the British fans, they allow this horrible crap to be played. I’m reading that UPN saw it and didn’t find it necessary to edit it out. But you know what? If Vince cared he would have made sure that none of us saw the Hassan/Taker segment.
It looks like Hassan and Daivari are getting a nice push by working with Taker. In fact at The Great American Bash it’s Hassan vs. Taker for number one contender. But the gimmick is taking 10 steps backwards by bringing out terrorists to violently strangle Taker. This was a total turn off to me. Why not keep Hassan the way he has been, a chronic complainer that isn’t happy with anything he’s given. Why get things going again by bringing in terrorist backups? I find it senseless. This was all totally ridiculous and WWE is slowly going to ruin any chance Hassan has of being worth watching. They will bury him if they keep up this moronic angle with his henchmen. Okay now on to bigger and not necessarily better things. As you know 18 WWE wresters and divas were released. And now you can add Jim Cornette to that list, since he was fired for slapping a student continuously backstage over at OVW. But I want to focus on some of the released employees. For the complete list just go to wwe.com. It seems like WWE.com is very proud of what they did. In fact there are a few interviews by a few that were released. Well I’m not proud of what they did. No where on that list do I see John Heidenreich, Gene Snitzky, Chris Masters and so on. Just to name a few they fired, Billy Kidman, Shannon Moore, Akio, a pregnant Dawn Marie, The Dudley’s, Spike Dudley and someone that I thought was never given a chance Charlie Haas and his wife Jackie Gayda. Here’s what angers me Haas, Moore and even Spike never really got the focus that let’s say John Heidenreich gets. The man has proven time and time again he’s wrestling skills are weak and I wouldn’t exactly praise his mic work. But for over a year he still gets TV time.
I’m hurt that Haas who could wrestle was rumored to have been released because he had no charisma. Did they ever give him a chance to prove them wrong? Did they ever give Shannon Moore a real chance? Nope, usually he was just bait for a bigger guy to squash. Granted Billy Kidman was given more to do at times, yet just when you thought he might have a decent gimmick he was out. And unfortunately it was mostly due to injuries. Spike Dudley time and time again killed himself out there for the fans and when he held that Cruiserweight belt and became the head Dudley he made things fun. But immediately WWE killed his momentum. And even though I was one that complained that the Dudley’s were stale, I found it very odd that they were not taken back because supposedly creative had nothing for them. If I feel saddened and angry about so many of these people being cut. And I guess what makes this even more pathetic is that WWE all week has been hyping what may be the return of Brock Lesnar.
I know on Sunday I spewed out my Lesnar thoughts, but because so much has happened since Sunday I need to get out a little more.
As I said I see a lot of good talent now gone because Vince is trying to save money. Yet from everything I’m reading Brock will be getting a multi-million dollar salary. And from all the rumors he’s going to be back on top just where he left off. So you dump wrestlers that worked their asses off all year and now you bring Lesnar back and reward him for wanting last year and disassociating himself from wrestling and wrestling fans. Listen I’m the first to admit in time I’m sure I’ll get over my anger for Brock and give him great reviews. And no doubt Smackdown can use him. But because of the releases I find it very hurtful that the WWE is treating Brock like a super terrific guy that deserves to be back. This is all so backwards to me. Also I really believe that with Brock back Christian being on top won’t happen. This will push him right back down.
Okay let me close with this. Wow did I get a lot of hate mail from my remarks on Hulk Hogan. His fans are totally loyal to him. Now I don’t have to defend myself but this is something I want to do. Let me tell you all right now, the man put wrestling on the map. He was and is a Good Will Ambassador for the sport and for that I say THANK YOU. I have seen him in person twice and that’s an experience that I will never forget, because seeing him live is much better than watching him on TV. I have every intension of watching his reality show. No not to bash him, this is a show I really want to see it. I have no problem with him coming on TV once in awhile. I was fine with his main event match with Cena and HBK against Jericho/Christian and Tomko. In fact I complimented how that was all done very well. I liked him on Carlito’s Cabana, again a perfect segment for him. What I don’t want is to have him in the main event week after week. Having that happen is putting the young talent on hold and I don’t like that. I don’t want to see him wrestle week after week because I don’t particularly think he is something to watch in the ring. Now that it is definite that he’ll have a match with HBK at Summer Slam he’s going to be on quite a bit. I can’t say that I’m thrilled about the whole situation. He’s not the Hogan of 20 years ago. He is better on the mic and that’s it. I have said it before bringing him in as a manager would be perfect for him. But to have him now as the MAIN feud on Raw too me is not why I watch Raw. I’m happy for all you Hulkamaniacs but you have to understand or I wish you would understand that we are not all Hulkamaniacs. Well that’s about all I have to say, believe me if he’s good on Raw, you all will read about that in my columns. I’m not out to get him, that’s definitely not my goal.
Well that’s it for today. Sunday I will not have a column, it’s my son’s 20th birthday and we have plans. Well we do but I’m not so sure he has the same plans that my husband and I have. Monday I have a very special column planned so I hope you will check it out. Have a great weekend, and here’s hoping the mood picks up next week, because I really hate feeling the way I do. And don’t forget to check out Bang TV and catch some of Dory Funk’s students. This week it’s Dory Funk Jr. and Osamu Nishimura vs. Lord of Discipline and Dewayne “Big Daddy” Bellhttp://www.dory-funk.com/bang-tv.html
