I mentioned in my Friday column that I would talk about John Cena and Brock Lesnar. I have a feeling this column will piss off many of you, but I’ve been waiting for a long time to get my feelings out about John Cena. And Brock was nice enough to make the headlines this week with his “I’m Grown Up” statement so how can I ignore Lesnar. But before I get into Cena and Brock thank you so much for responding when I asked if anyone knew where to get the Rock DVD. You guys are amazing. I received so many answers and a lot of different places giving my reader a variety of sites to hopefully find what he wants. So again thank you and now I have to ask you for your help again. I got an email the other day; Do you know where I can find the Wrestlemania 16 and 17 DVD? They are not at highspots.com and eBay and Amazon you have to pay a lot so if you know could you tell me where I can find the DVDs?
Again if anyone has an idea where to find these DVD’s please let me know. Now on to my thoughts for the day.
Brock Lesnar has grown up. Yeah it took a while but I guess in an interview last week Brock said he’s grown up and wants a second chance. He says he wasn’t ready for the traveling; he wasn’t ready for responsibilities and the money. But now it seems things are different. Here’s my take on all of this. He wants a second chance? I would like to think Vince would really think this over before he jumps to bring Brock back. See I would be very cautious about bringing this man back into the WWE. Remember one thing; I did not have a problem with Brock leaving because he wanted to fulfill his dream of becoming a pro football player. But it was after he left and he bashed wrestling and put down the fans, you know the fans that supported him, yeah he put us all down like we were nothings. That’s when I lost any respect I had for this man. Sure he wants back, look at the money this guy made in WWE. He knows he’s not going to make that anywhere else. Brock saying he wants a second chance was no surprise to me. I figured sooner or later we would see him return. But I would be very leery to bring Lesnar back. I mean we all make mistakes but how do you know that this guy really has the passion for the business? Who’s to say that after a while he won’t walk out again because his heart really isn’t into it? Or because he can’t stand the traveling.
Let’s say Vince does re-sign him, which I’m sure is a possibility. Here’s how I would handle Brock Lesnar. I would make him earn his way to the top. This man would be handed NOTHING. He would work with low to mid carders, he would not be the focus of the shows and he would work his ass off to prove that this job is everything to him. When Brock broke in a few years ago this man got pushed immediately. He was handed the title within a few months and Smackdown was Brock’s show. But now guys like Batista, Christian, Cena and others have worked so hard to get where they are that I certainly don’t want to see any of these guys de-pushed because Brock is back. Brock’s new found love for wrestling will be tested by putting starting him at the bottom. If he really wants it he’ll stick it out and do all he can to make it back to the top again. I would think twice before taking him back, but if he is rehired than Brock can be a semi regular on Velocity or Heat until he can prove that he’s sincere and wrestling is going to be a big part of his life.
Okay now I’m sure this will rub many of John Cena’s fans the wrong way, but we are all entitled to our opinions. I have noticed since Cena became the WWE champion so many of my readers are turned off by Cena. In fact I seem to get anti Cena email on a daily basis. Now it’s not hate mail it’s not nasty they just don’t care for his in ring work and his character. This made me realize that I’m feeling the very same way. I never realized that Cena’s heel persona as the bad ass rapper was so much more appealing then his over the top goody good face character. I see him trying so hard to emulate the Rock. Week after week he imitates the announcers when he’s interviewed, similar to Rock, or he manages to name the city that they are in by saying the champ is here, similar to Rock and I just see so many of his actions that remind me of Rock. Cena has lost his edge; his raps are about bathroom subjects or body parts. They are useless and as far as I’m concerned not funny. Without a doubt this man’s mic work is outstanding, yet as a face he tries way too hard to please the fans. I would be a moron to say that this man isn’t over, hell he’s loved by the majority of WWE’s fans. And as crazy as this sounds I don’t hate him at all, he definitely has the enthusiasm and the drive for the business. I like the guy; I just don’t like him playing this oh so sweet face.
I would just prefer him to be less cute and friendly and more serious and tough. I think you can be a top face and have those last two qualities that I just mentioned. It’s obvious that Cena is not only the future of the WWE, but he’s the present as well. Vince is building around this man and I have a feeling that it’s Vince and his staff that are trying very hard to give the fans the closest thing to Rock that they have. And let’s face it there is only one Rock, and John Cena needs to be his OWN man. As far as his in ring work goes, no he’s not the best, but believe me I’ve seen worse. Cena needs to have more matches with guys like Jericho, Angle and even Triple H. Give him guys like that to work with and trust me he’ll improve his skills. I think I’m more turned off by what he does out of the ring. I will say this I’m 51 years old, but I look 25, how I wish. Anyway it is so possible that because of my age, I just don’t get the Cena character. I really believe that’s a big part of it, he’s too cool for me and I mean that with all sincerity. I guess I feel more comfortable with Batista. He’s the total opposite. He’s very calm, quiet and doesn’t go over board to get the fans going, see that I can handle.
All I ask is that Cena try just a little less to be the host of Raw and try harder to be the tough guy that will do whatever he has to, to remain the WWE champion. Okay so it’s on to Raw tomorrow night in Sacramento, California. I bet you are all counting the hours until Sgt. Slaughter’s Bikini Boot Camp with the diva contestants. I pray this will be fast and as painless as possible. With Batista off Raw you know Cena will be the focus along with Kurt Angle. I would like to see Chris Jericho and John Cena continue their feud, and who will Kurt go after next? Is it possible Ric Flair will want a rematch? And for all you Hogan fans, he’ll be the guest on Carlito’s Cabana. You can bet that CCC will not be spitting an apple in Hogan’s face. I’ll guarantee you that. I’ll be back on Tuesday with thoughts about Raw. Let me end with a little bragging. The following sites have an interview with me, I enjoyed the time that I had with Joe and I hope you will find my thoughts interesting. If you go to www.barbwire-press.com look under the RRW section.
