So it’s official Christian and Batista are now on Smackdown, Undertaker wasn’t taking crap from Hassan and all in all a good Smackdown with a very impressive main event. I have to say there was VERY little that turned me off last night, and that’s always a good thing. Before I talk about the show, I again need your help. I have a reader that would love to purchase WWE(F) the Rock Just Bring It; collector’s edition (it’s a 2 disc set). If anyone has any idea where my reader can order this please let me know. And one more thing. Even though Impact is no longer on TV, one of my readers emailed me and asked me to let you all know that if you go to the TNA website you can now watch Impact there. So for all you TNA fans that miss not watching the show on TV now there’s a website that let’s you see the show again. Okay now on to Smackdown.
Sure I was a little concerned when Hassan and Daivari came out to open the show. I can’t say those are two guys I would start things off with. But this all played out so well, because Hassan’s whining centered around Undertaker. How bold of Hassan to boast that he’s far better than Taker and that the Deadman era is dead and gone. Hassan’s anti Taker attitude brought out the man to a deafening crowd reaction. I really enjoyed all of this once Taker came out. For a short time Hassan seemed to be scared of Taker but in a matter of seconds Hassan managed to insult Taker right to his face by informing Taker that Undertaker had beaten everyone except Muhammad Hassan. I don’t know about you but I was waiting for Taker to destroy the man. It didn’t come to that but Taker did manage to choke-slam Daivari. It was just too bad that Hassan ran out of the ring just in time. I guess with Orton not there last night Hassan was picking up the slack and all of this would play out more in the main event. So even though I wasn’t to excited to have Hassan start the show this really turned out to be a very entertaining opening.
Paul London and Chavo Guerrero had the first match of the night, and just like the last few weeks this match was cut short. Again it was the Mexicools, Juvi, Super Crazy and Psicosis crashed the party and decided to wreak some havoc. Like last week, the three took out Chavo and London again. Only this time London did all he could to stop them but they over powered him. My favorite part had to be when Psicosis clocked the time keeper in the face with the microphone and laughed. See that’s what I like a nasty group of guys taking out anybody they want and enjoying it as it happens. This was another effective segment with the Mexicools and I’m just wondering what they have up their sleeves next week. Maybe they will take Michael Cole out, now that would be something to look forward too. But this was good and I would think that we will see one of them go one on one with Paul London maybe as soon as next week. After a video package was shown to recap Eddie Guerrero’s and Rey Mysterio’s match from last week, Eddie was then interviewed by Josh Matthews. Eddie was smiling and sent out a weird message on how he knows the truth and Rey would have to beg him not tell the truth. Eddie was in one of his wicked moods last night which I always like seeing.
Okay what can I say about Melina vs. Michelle McCool? I can say it was basically what I expected and leave it at that. Or I can say that the tag team of MNM is being screwed around by having to be pushed into a storyline with Heidenreich. While I thought this match was okay, I did enjoy the conceited Melina warming up and getting ready to perform in front of Hollywood’s “in crowd.” And I liked how the paparazzi were outside waiting to take pictures of Melina as she got ready for the match. Just these little things make the MNM gimmick really campy and fun. Okay tell me this how freaky yet how terrific was the Eddie Guerrero segment with Rey Mysterio? It was all Eddie here, showing a video that he took talking to Rey’s little boy at a park. Uncle Eddie had such a tender moment with Dominic. Giving him candy and having Dominic sit on his lap. But come on we all know this is going somewhere and maybe somewhere creepy. This is where things really get weird. After we see this video, Eddie calls Rey out and Rey comes out minus his usual entrance and Guerrero asks Rey if he should share his secret with the world? Oh Eddie is just torturing Rey with this, but he’s also enjoying every minute of hell he’s putting Rey through. After Rey got knocked down by Eddie, Rey kept saying don’t go there. Eddie started getting a little more animated and told Rey that no one beats Eddie and that Eddie never loses. Eddie continued to go after Rey by making him beg Eddie not to tell Dominic the secret. Eddie then shoved licorice in his face told him to chew on that and left. As I said this was a very creepy segment. What could Rey and Eddie be hiding? I guess this is an angle we will have to watch unfold week after week.
It was now time for the 45 minute main event. The six man elimination match for the Smackdown belt was now a 5 man elimination match since Big Show was drafted to Raw. So the match started out with Booker T, JBL, Chris Benoit, Hassan, and Undertaker. But it was Theodore’s Long’s announcement that really got things going. The match was back to a six man elimination match because the latest draft pick for Smackdown was Christian. I can’t tell you how great it was to see him come out and the fans reacted so favorably to him. I liked this match so much. Each man brought something to the ring. I was in awe of the work that Chris Benoit put into this. Booker again worked extremely hard. Hassan’s bitching about Taker at the beginning of the show all came together as Taker and Hassan took it out of the ring and out of the arena.
JBL put his all into this and Christian looked very strong out there. My only complaint was having JBL pin Christian. I just feel to build him up as a top heel having him get pinned was something I wouldn’t have done. Other than that this was great and the ending with JBL winning yet really losing was GOLD.
How great was it to see JBL’s happiness fade in a matter of seconds, once Long informed JBL that yeah he won the match yet, there was no need to have a Smackdown title now that Batista is the new member of Smackdown. Seeing Batista come out with that World champion belt and bring the crowd to their feet was so cool. I’m kind of sad to see Batista off of Raw, but I feel that Batista along with Christian can bring so much to the show. I’m very excited about all of this. So I will say a good Smackdown, and a very very good main event. Okay I don’t know how many of you know about the final trades but if you go to WWE.com you’ll find a list of the names. By the way I loved Raw Monday night. I figured since I had put out back to back columns I would give you all a break and not do a Raw one. But I was pleased that RVD was traded to RAW. I absolutely loved the Kurt Angle/Ric Flair match. That match will go down as a classic and Hulk Hogan, John Cena and HBK vs. Tomko, Christian and Jericho came off so well. HBK and Hogan made Cena look like a King out there. After all he had two of wrestling’s biggest icons as his tag team partners. Raw with the exception of that thing they call the Diva contest was excellent. Hey I even loved Tajiri giving Chris Maters a few good stiff kicks; I hope there’s more of that to come. Okay on Sunday I will talk about the final trades, John Cena and Brock Lesnar. So I hope you will check out my column.
