I normally don’t put up thoughts on the show, but I felt compelled to after such a masterful piece of work on WWE’s part tonight.
From the lovely Diva Search contestants to the return of RVD to RAW to the appearance of two WWE Hall of Famers in Sgt. Slaughter and Hulk Hogan – tonight was the type of night that WWE needs more of! There was no Jean Paul Levesque, there was a high degree of entertainment (let’s be serious, the main event was only there to give the fans a reason to scream their heads off), and the seeds were planted for a few future storylines.
Now maybe it’s just me, but whenever you have a Ric Flair/Kurt Angle match on the same show that you have Hogan in a match with Christian, John Cena, and Shawn Michaels…you’ve got a good show!
I think that the reason why I’m so high on tonight’s show was the lack of what has made RAW “Must Miss TV” for the past few weeks, months, and even years. I’ll be writing a column about this towards the end of the week, but in short – RAW has become repetitive in recent years. You have a Levesque speech, a tag match with a bunch of guys who are going no where, an incredibly athletic Intercontinental Title match, a boring Woman’s match, and you finish it up with a subpar-at-best main event. Ah, Pat Patterson had to have been laughing somewhere watching the mess that RAW had become!
Let’s hope that the enthusiasm and excitement generated by tonight’s show carries over into Thursday’s Smackdown! and gives WWE a good kick in the ass for the summer months.
Then again – I could be taking this show the completely wrong way! I mean I don’t troll the internet looking for a prowrestling scoop so maybe some of you will think that the show sucked. But hey, for those of us that just get to watch wrestling when we get a chance and don’t overanalyze the entertainment value of it – tonight was a gift!
Thank you for choosing TBL!
