Okay so I might have been a little off about Big Show being drafted to Raw last night. But I will bet you anything that Matt Hardy is coming back to Raw and that the video last night was done to get you all ready for a Matt return. I loved Raw and I found the Phoenix fans to be pretty damn hot as well. There are so many things I want to focus on. So why not start with the opening of the show. Also I have nothing to say about the diva contest, so don’t think I forgot about it, it’s just not worth talking about, at least for now it’s not.
Has anybody else noticed that John Cena handles a crowd almost as well as The Rock does? One of my readers emailed me last night and he noticed that, and I was kind of relieved that I wasn’t the only that felt that way. I’ve seen a lot of Rock in John Cena since he won the WWE title. He’s definitely has IT when it comes to interacting with the crowd and last night was no exception. Cena had a very strong promo and if he could only improve on his in ring work the guy could be the total package. I had no problem with John Cena giving Hassan his first loss and really I welcomed that loss, but the match was about two minutes long. My thoughts are since Hassan has never been pinned, and this match was for the WWE title this should have gone on a good 10 minutes. I just watched the match again, and neither guy looked that great out there. So yeah I’m disappointed with the WWE champion’s wrestling skills and it’s something that needs to be worked on. But as I said the opening came off very well thanks to great mic work by the WWE champion.
Need I tell you how thrilled I was that Carlito was drafted to Raw? Yeah I was so sure that the Big Show would be the next pick and I’m still thinking that he will be drafted next week, but it was a very pleasant surprise hearing Carlito’s theme and watching him make his Raw appearance. Now his match against Shelton Benjamin for the IC title was bittersweet for me. Shelton has been a consistent IC champion and I felt bad to see him lose it the first night that CCC showed up, however CCC did the very same thing against John Cena when Cena held the U.S. title back in the fall on Smackdown. I think giving Carlito the title like this does a couple of things. First, it pisses off a lot of fans for not making him work for that title which will give Carlito a lot of heat from the fans, and second, this win guarantees a feud with Shelton, which Carlito will benefit from greatly. Having Shelton to work with I believe will help sharpen Carlito’s ring work. I’m very happy about the new IC title holder. But I will say that the when Shelton caught his knee on the top rope I held my breath for a few seconds, I didn’t know what to think. He seemed a little wobbly during the match but so far I haven’t read a thing about him, so I’m hoping he’s fine. But welcome to Raw Carlito and be ready for a Shelton rematch. And one more thing, how hysterical was it to see Air Head Maria asking Carlito how he did it, how he beat Shelton. And Carlito very seriously said he pinned him 1, 2, 3. His reply killed me. Spitting the apple in Maria’s face was predictable yet it goes so well with his character.
Viscera vs. Simon Dean wasn’t much of a match, but again I like when Simon Dean laughs at his own jokes, and I liked Lillian getting Vis all hot and bothered about her Las Vegas talk. Promising Vic that he’s going to get lucky and hit the jackpot on Sunday. Did she have a big smile on her. I can’t say Vis bugs me, I still think he’s playing the love machine very well. But you know what was even better than this? NO CHRIS MASTERS LAST NIGHT. I can’t tell you what not having a Masterlock segment did for me and the show. What a nice break for a change. It’s nice having Kurt Angle back on Raw and away from Sharmell. Kurt buddying up to Eric Bischoff last night was classic Angle. My my didn’t Kurt say all the right things to Eric. Eric was glowing with everything that came out of Angle’s mouth. It was a short segment but a very funny segment. And I can’t way to see how Eric caters to Kurt Angle in the weeks to come. Okay it’s time for a wedding.
Let me say this was a segment I really wasn’t putting to much stock in. We have seen plenty of weddings on Raw and Smackdown, yet this one was full of humor and I’ll tell you it caught me totally off guard with the Matt Hardy video. First let me say that the gown that Lita was barely wearing reminded me of my wedding gown twenty nine years ago. Yeah and if you believe that than you’ll believe that I’m starting to love Heidenreich. Okay anyway that was some dress she had on, it made Stephanie’s very low cut dress back in 2002 when she was supposed to remarry Hunter look like a turtleneck. The wedding was fun. I couldn’t help but laugh when I saw Gene Snitzky come out in one very screwy tuxedo and read It’s Not My Fault. And hearing the fans chant boring loudly when Edge was talking also put a smile on my face. Lita’s line about if being in love makes me a slut, then she is proud to be the slut of the century did it for me. Hey the slut chants were so loud that I loved how they incorporated all the anti Edge and Lita chants into this ceremony.
But of course it was hearing Matt Hardy’s music and wondering if he would come out that really had me watching this. In my heart I figured no way would he be there, yet a little part of me thought hey maybe he’s back. When Matt didn’t show up and Edge and Lita laughed and Edge said they couldn’t resist, and then Edge told the preacher he would explain it to the preacher at the reception I thought immediately oh boy is Vince giving it to Matt. Lita did say in her wedding vowels that after falling I love with Edge she knew that she was never in love with anyone before. The whole thing seemed to be more of a dig to Matt than to Kane. Here’s my take on the whole thing. What really bothered me about the video was that I can only imagine how Matt’s fans felt. Here they see this entrance video and they probably thought he’s back Matt’s back and just went nuts. So for Matt’s fans this was cruel on Vince’s part. However, and I cannot take credit for what I’m going to say since it’s out there on the internet. But after reading that many feel this video was definitely the beginning of a Matt, Edge feud, I definitely have to agree with that. I feel that Vince knows he has a MONEY maker here with Edge vs. Matt and with Matt able to wrestle anywhere after the beginning of July, Vince doesn’t want to lose him to TNA. So as cruel as this was, I really think Hardy is coming back, and this was the way to get things going. And if that’s the case, then I loved the way it played out.
And I can’t forget Kane’s part during all of this. I knew the guy would show up, but seeing his bald head come up from the floor was rather eerie, yet good. Kane giving the Preacher a tombstone and wrecking the wedding set pleased me very much. Watching him cry these past weeks and just stand there hasn’t done a thing for him, so it was nice watching him terrorize the wedding and smile and say he’s back. Hopefully he will take care of Edge at Vengeance. I say that because Kane needs a big win and a violent win to put him over as a monster again. Okay Christy got clobbered with a glass vase by Victoria. I enjoyed seeing Victoria and I’m wondering what if anything is going to happen with Christy not remembering her name and day and so on. Do I see an amnesia angle going on? Could Christy side with Victoria by turning heel? Or will this all be forgotten by next week’s Raw?
I told my husband last night, if Angle vs. Batista is a lengthy match then Batista is going to Smackdown. However, if for some reason the match is short or doesn’t take place, these two guys are being saved for a future feud. And since the match was very short I truly believe that Batista will not be going to Smackdown and once Vengeance is over it will be Angle gunning for Batista for the World Title. I had no problem with the match ending quickly because I really enjoyed the main event tag team match with Batista and HBK vs. Hunter and Angle. We haven’t seen Hunter wrestle since he lost Chris Benoit the night after Backlash which was May 2nd, so watching him out there and not talking was a total treat for me. Now let me just vent a little and really it’s short. Hunter was on for what the last 10 minutes of the show? There was no mic work involved at all he just wrestled and wrestled well. Yet I read a bunch of feedback on a few sites and saw so many saying I’m sick of Triple H being shoved down our throats. He ruined the Angle/Batista match, and I’m tired of the Triple H show. Now I say you want to hate the guy fine, but call it the way it is. He didn’t take over the show, he wasn’t shoved down our throats, and the reason for the interference during the Batista vs. Angle match was to bring not only Hunter out but Shawn as well to hype up the HBK/Angle match and the HIAC match. Anyone that was pissed that Hunter beat Batista and believe me there were plenty that were, should realize that he had to win, since he’s losing on Sunday. I wouldn’t have expected anything but a victory for Hunter. Okay, anyway it was a good main event, a very good main event and I liked watching all four guys in that ring. I am looking so forward to Sunday’s pay per view.
I want to also throw in that Chris Jericho and Christian did a super job last night. I loved when they beat up Cena after he beat Hassan, and I loved the cockiness of both guys as they hyped up their match against Cena on Sunday. I feel now with Carlito on Raw, it’s a given that Smackdown will have Chris Jericho which I think is great. So Raw was alive last night, and that’s a feeling I love when I’m watching this show. I’m now anxious to see if maybe Eugene gets drafted to Smackdown tonight. I don’t see Jericho getting drafted until next week, but then again maybe Smackdown WILL draft him this week. Okay maybe someone can give me some help. I have one reader that would like to know what brand of shoes John Cena wears. And another reader that would like to know where he can get a Toothless Aggression tee shirt. If anyone can help me I would really appreciate it. Okay I’ll be back on Friday to discuss what happened on Smackdown this week.
