I might not have started watching ECW from the start, but I did get into it about six years ago, and that show always amazed me. Maybe because the talent from that company didn’t care what they had to do when it came to putting their bodies and even their lives on the line just to give their fans 110% each week. Tomorrow night it’s One Night Stand, and it’s a pay per view that has been built up probably better than any WWE pay per view other than Wrestlemania. I for one cannot wait to see this show, and instead of doing predictions, I would just like to talk about a few of the guys and one lady that will be there. It’s kind of a mini preview of what you can expect tomorrow night.
I will show you the matches and the rest of the talent that WWE.com has listed at the end of my column. This show has so much potential. True Rob Van Dam won’t be able to wrestle, but he’s going to be there and he’s going to do a shoot interview. You can only imagine what Rob will have to say. Also from what RVD told me last Friday he’s going to get physical tomorrow night. So you can bet that RVD is going to add plenty to this show. You have Paul Heyman, and we all know that ECW is his baby. Heyman is never one to keep quiet, so I’m expecting him to get the fans at the Hammerstein Ballroom fired up even more than they will be. But let’s face it Heyman has the gift for gab, and when he talks things can get very exciting. I read that Tazz is going to take part in the show and I don’t mean at the announce table. Now how much wrestling Tazz will take part in I don’t know, but I am sure when the fans see him in the ring all hell will break lose.
Since Tazz won’t be announcing someone has to substitute for him am in right? Well I read that Mick Foley will be joining Joey Styles at the announce table. I’m thrilled to have Foley in that role. I figure he’s probably not in shape to be in a match so have him announce along with Joey Styles and trust me the play by play on TV will be out of this world. WWE added a match yesterday, and this one kind of surprised me. It’s Mike Awesome vs. Masato Tanaka. Now I say I’m surprised because I kind of thought that Awesome wasn’t exactly in good graces with Paul Heyman or the WWE. But I guess all is forgotten for tomorrow’s show so I think it’s awesome that they brought Awesome in.
I can’t wait to see Dawn Marie come out with Lance Storm when he takes on Chris Jericho. I always loved the ditsy Dawn in her ECW days. I remember a few times when she would sit with Joey Styles and Joel Gertner and just talk senseless talk, and I would laugh so hard. She played a good character then and I’m looking forward to that Dawn Marie tomorrow night. Ah Joel Gertner, well well well, he was like the overweight version of Val Venis. Like Val with his little innuendos about the Big Valbowski, Gertner’s filthy limericks were always funny to me. Believe me Gertner never came up with a bad one they were always well worth waiting for. And remember that neck thing he wore and the shirtless look? Did it take guts too come out looking like that, yet Gertner could get away with that.
There are so many terrific things to look forward to tomorrow night. I only hope that this WWE invasion angle doesn’t take up a lot of the show, and I really hope that the crusaders don’t come off looking like winners and tough guys. It’s important to me and I’m sure most of the fans that these guys are taken out by the ECW crew. Also I have a feeling that this One Night Stand is not going to be the end of ECW. I feel that the way this show has been built that tomorrow night is only the beginning. Don’t ask me how, but I say we are going to see a bunch of ECW guys on Raw and Smackdown in the VERY near future. It’s not over at least I don’t feel it is.
So these were just a few of my thoughts about probably the hottest pay per view of the year. If any of you are going to be there LIVE oh my god I envy you. And for all of you that will be watching on TV, enjoy. Oh wait I have one prediction; I predict Tazz will beat the hell out of Kurt Angle.
