Welcome to the May 2005 edition of Random Thoughts. For those of you who don’t know, Random Thoughts is my once a month forum to vent. This is going to be short and sweet so grab your wife and children and Mick Foley lovers and head for the hills, because I’m about to get on a roll.
This past Monday WWE truly showed us that for every swerve they pull, something predictable will happen. As called by yours truly after the first round of the tournament, both Edge and Kane advanced to the finals of the World Title tournament. Can anyone say “predictable swerve”? This is more than likely a setup for the Lowly Lita to turn on her “loving” beast of a husband Kane and for all of us to get what we want…Lita and Edge as an on screen couple. This could perhaps be a smart business move for the dolts at Titan Towers. As we all know, good ol’ Vincent Kennedy McMahon has no qualms about exploiting a professional wrestlers falls, flaws and personal life for the sake of a good story line. The difference is that the victim is usually still getting paid by the WWE. It just so happens that this one is sitting home unemployed because Vinnie Mac felt the situation had a potential to become “uncomfortable” for all involved. Seeing as Vince McMahon himself is no stranger to the wonderful world of infidelity, I am sure Adam Copeland received a $50,000 bonus check for his actions.
Throwing out what little journalistic credibility I may left, let me say this. I am so tired of listening Mick Foley supporters talk about his “greatness”. The only greatness about Mick Foley is the size of his posterior. The truth is that Foley was one of J.R.’s cronies and had a great “sob story” about wanting to be a wrestler growing up. Well, the news flash is that Mr. Foley never was a WRESTLER. His title reigns were utterly useless and the only reason he has any notoriety are because every top contender in the WWF in the late 90’s put him over. Spare me the “that guy is crazy” and “he gave his body for the sport” defenses. Ric Flair said it best when he said that ” Foley is a stunt man”. This is wrestling and Foley has done very little of that. I consider him useless after his first run as Mankind.
Tammy Sytch recently suffered a nervous breakdown after the death of her long time boyfriend Chris Candido. Candido recently passed away following complications from leg surgery. My thoughts and prayers go out to Tammy and the Candido family. Chris will be sorely missed.
Get well wishes to Capt. Lou Albano.
Everyone seems extremely (no pun intended) excited about the upcoming WWE/ECW “One Night Stand” Pay-Per-View. I loved and miss ECW as much as anyone, but how can it be an ECW pay-per-view without the likes of Shane Douglas, Sabu and Raven? Not to mention that Tazz is retired and Rob Van Dam is on injured reserve. Half of the guys that Vinnie Mac are using for this pay-per-view stayed in ECW for a year or less. Ticket prices are $400, $200 and $100 bucks for the show. That’s pretty steep, but most fans I have spoken with said that money is no object when it comes to an “ECW Reunion Show”. Personally, I’d rather see Shane Douglas’ version on pay per view more than Vinnie Mac’s.
