What has to be considered pretty big news from today is that Brian Gewirtz, the senior member of the WWE creative team who was in charge of the RAW brand, and was helping out with vignettes and segments on SmackDown as well, has taken a leave of absence from the company. From what we’re told, he’s expected to return later this year, perhaps even within three or four months, as speculations say. The idea behind his leave of absense is that he will be spending some time helping out the WWE Films branch, as well as taking a break from the wrestling business.
Although not a big fan of Gerwitz, I believe that’s a good move for both him and the company. They need to have their top writers take some time off from wrestling, so they can connect with the world and be more in touch with the crowd that watches their show. This is quite interesting, seeing as it could be either a great thing, or a complete failure. Time will tell.
Meanwhile, WWE recently hired a new writer, who was involved with the series Beverly Hills 90210. Larry Mollin, who will be starting with the company shortly, is going in without any knowledge of the wrestling business. When will it ever end you might ask.
