Does anyone feel that World Wrestling Entertainment takes us fans for granted? I sure do. Never in the history of wrestling, have I seen the WWE more arrogant and so full of themselves then currently. Vince McMahon thinks he has the wrestling world wrapped around his little finger. In some respects, he is right. But if he thinks we wrestling fans will put up with this crap, he’s wrong. Dead wrong! I increasingly feel like WWE is using us fans. I know a lot of you fans do, because I get a lot of e-mails and comments about it. WWE used to have the family feel. The wrestlers were family. We fans were family. Vince McMahon and the wrestling world were just one big dysfunctional family, and I remember the good old days when WWE felt like family mattered. Then things changed. Changing for the worse. After WWE defeated their only competition in World Championship Wrestling, at the end of the Monday Night Wars they have increasingly became arrogant and cocky week by week, year by year. They’ve insulted our intelligence. They forced talent down our throat, even if we resisted. They took talent away from us, canning them, and giving the wrestling world the big F U. They have even went as far as regarding themselves as a entertainment company, and no longer a wrestling company. I don’t know about you, but when I turn on WWE usually I want wrestling. I don’t want stupid Raw Diva Search’s, or lame million dollar Tough Enough’s. I don’t want seven foot tall wrestlers who can’t wrestle worth beans, while WWE fires incredibly talented and gifted athletes. This doesn’t make sense, nor add up. World Wrestling Entertainment has went from good, to bad, to worse. Sure WWE is improving. The ratings are increasing, the product is doing ok, and the focus is again all about World Wrestling Entertainment. But if they think they continue to insult our intelligence, and get 250,000 buys per month or higher from Pay-Per-Views then they’re wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong.
Matt Hardy is a perfectly talented wrestler. Matt Morgan is not. Matt Hardy is out of a contract and in essence a job, yet good old stuttering Matt Morgan is shoved down our throats on SmackDown! Personally, I’m sick of this. Sick of the way WWE handles business. Matt Hardy was cheated on by his girlfriend Lita. He was the victim. His own buddy Edge was the one who slept with her. Instead of punishing them, WWE almost rewards them in a odd way. After this situation Lita magically appears on Raw again, and as soon as this situation goes down Edge all of the sudden wins the WrestleMania 21 match and is given a future title shot. Since when is WWE rewarding superstars for cheating on their boyfriends, then firing the boyfriend after he did something like making comments about the situation online. This happening after WWE didn’t do ANYTHING about this situation, yet reward the two people in this whole situation that didn’t deserve to be rewarded. As Mike Steele said in his column recently, this is like the new Screw Job. Matt Hardy did a lot for the WWE. As a Tag Team champion, as Matt Hardy Version One, and even being pushed as Cruiserweight champion. He stayed with them, even after his brother departed and left for a company that would push him ten times better then WWE did. In some respects, I think Matt Hardy should have quit a long time ago. WWE hasn’t used him properly, and treated him like he was nothing. Matt Hardy is something, and I hope for his sake he ends up in TNA. I hope TNA pushes him, I hope he has a title reign, and I hope he’s appreciated. Finally! Same with Rhyno. Rhyno’s a former ECW World Heavyweight champion. And a dang talented one at that. Yet, in his last months of wrestling in WWE he was placed in a hopeless tag team with Tajiri that continuously were jobbers for the World Tag Team champions. Going from World’s Heavyweight contendership in Extreme Championship Wrestling, to jobbing for the World Tag Team champions on Heat is quite a jump if you ask me. A jump that Rhyno shouldn’t of had to take. WWE misused him, like they misused Matt Hardy. Frankly, I hope to see Rhyno make his way to TNA too. Hopefully, he’ll finally get the push and appreciation he deserves. You know Vince once said WWE was entertainment, not wrestling. I’m starting to believe him. All I see in WWE is hopeless drama, and backstage politics that would put the ‘Bold and the Beautiful’ to shame. Then, when WWE fires guys like Rhyno and Matt Hardy virtually for nothing, they replace them with the likes of Matt Morgan. If you’ve forgotten about Matt Morgan, well all he has is his size. His in-ring abilities make JBL look like Bret Hart, his stuttering gimmick is way overdone, not to mention his horrible mic skills, he’s sloppy and he’s slow. I know this for a fact, I saw him live once. Unfortunately. Matt Hardy was versatile. He could be a World’s champion or a Cruiserweights champion. Rhyno had the wrestling ability, and frankly the guts for just about anything WWE put on his plate. Yet, WWE fires both of them replacing them with guys like Morgan. If you don’t feel taken for granted, click the big X in the corner. Because frankly I don’t want your viewer ship. WWE is playing us like a fiddle, and were just sitting here like Vince McMahon’s bum buddies taking every blow.
Then WWE announces another stupid Raw Diva Search. If you like the Diva Search, I have a suggestion for a show you may like. Because I don’t think Raw’s for you. That show is “Queer Eye For The Straight Guy”, because if you like drama these guys have plenty of it to go around. But, Raw isn’t a playground for these stupid little reality television show rip-offs. It’s for wrestling. Yes, wrestling. You know? The reason I write this column, and the reason I tune in every Monday and Thursday night. Vince McMahon: fans don’t want a entertainment company. I want a wrestling company. I want a REAL wrestling company. Not Diva Search’s. Not Tough Enough. None of that. It’s a waste of time, and money. If you honestly believe that wrestling fans want to see this crap over a wrestling match, your more naive then I make you out to be Vinnie Mac. It’s bad enough your wrestling field of women has went from a respectable 6-10 down to about 3 or 4. If you have to hold Diva Search’s to gain talent you’ve got a problem. Maybe if Nidia, Jazz, Gail Kim, and Molly Holly weren’t fired then your problem would be solved. You’ve taken out virtually the whole Women’s division with one Spring cleaning. So no excuses, no complaints. I would rather see you re-hire all of these divas, then hold a Raw Diva Search. OK, if your not complaining about how taken for granted we are by now, please e-mail me with your name and address because I want to personally punch you in the face in person. Wake up people! This isn’t rocket science, stop playing into Vince McMahon’s gigantic wrestling circus. Taken for granted, party of one.
I’m not saying: Stop buying WWE merchandise, and cancel your subscription to WWE’s magazines. On the contrary. I’m trying to open the eyes of the naive, and say wake up. The way WWE is using, and abusing us is horrid. I’m sick of it, and if you aren’t sick of it then I guess you should really consider my suggestion. Seriously, I think Queer Eye comes on a couple times a week. Catch a show or two, and leave us REAL wrestling fans alone. Vince McMahon the message is clear, and it’s clear on the Wright Idea. Stop the crap. We aren’t stupid. We don’t want talent shoved down our throats. And we sure as heck don’t want Triple H as World Heavyweight Champion every other month. We don’t want our intelligence insulted first and foremost. I didn’t ask for Batista to be champion. But I guess it’s a better change of pace then WWE’s been taking lately (with Triple H as Raw dictator). You had Randy Orton champion for a month, then gave it back to Triple H. With all the talk about WWE being nervous with Batista as champion, it’s making me nervous even thinking about WWE even considering giving Triple H the World’s title again. Yes, AGAIN. Eleven times, most of them undeserved. Benoit’s a one time champion (not considering his one night reign in WCW.) Jericho’s a one time champion. Kane’s been champion for only one night. Orton was champion for a lousy month. Yet, Triple H, a man who plays backstage politics and bonks the bosses daughter is champion eleven times and seems to be champion every other month. BULLS*%@!
Then I see mid-carder, Christian in the main event of Raw. No offense to Christian, but he’s mid-card. Not main event. Chris Jericho is complaining backstage about not getting the proper push, and he’s a deserving contender for the World title. Yet he’s placed in the mid-card fending for the IC title. He should, keyword should, be going after the World championship. I hope that this weeks Raw, that saw Christian in the main event, was a just a one time thing. Christian is a up and coming talent, no doubt. But guys like Chris Jericho, Edge, Batista, and Randy Orton are the future of Raw–not Christian. Christian’s good, but Edge is definitely better. Christian can entertain, but Randy Orton will always be more entertaining. Christian could be a World title contender, but right now, well right now Batista is the World champion. Christian’s time isn’t here yet, and I hope WWE doesn’t screw up another good thing by shoving Christian down our throats as a main eventer too soon, and too early. But that’s just me. In my opinion, I think Christian has a future ahead of him. But his time is no where near. Not even by a long shot. Again that’s just my opinion, I guess that’s “how I roll” as Christian would say.
On more to complain about: Hulk Hogan. Ok, I have no problem with nostalgic matches, but lets hope this really is his last match. He’s old, he’s past his prime, and I’ve noticed even his pops from the fans are getting littler and littler. Shawn Michaels deserves a lot better coming off a loss at WrestleMania 21, then to carry a entire tag team match at Backlash just so WWE can try and make one last effort to squeeze out as much ‘mark’ buy rates of people who know Hogan for his name value. Us, real wrestling fans, know his time is done. Even a lot of Hogan fans will admit that. He’s old, he sucks, get over it Hulkamaniacs. I have no problem with Hogan in the past. But the past is the past, and Hogan is stuck in the past. He’s not helping anyone coming into the WWE world, and trying to suck every last bit of fan reaction he can get in order to get his egotistical fix. Let’s face it. He’ll get reaction. But so will Goldberg in any arena in America. And we all know for a fact, that Goldberg sucks. Who’s next? Seriously, who’s next, Randy Savage in order to sell Judgment Day? Will Shawn Michaels have to carry that match too?
My point? It’s simple. I’m tired, REAL tired of the arrogance of the World Wrestling Entertainment empire. You know what, I hate the fact that Batista and John Cena are champions. Sure they may be deserving, but there is ton of other guys who are more deserving. I hate the fact that Matt Hardy and Rhyno are send packing, yet the next week we see Matt Morgan making a fool of himself stuttering like a moron (putting Bubba Ray to shame), and stinking it up in the ring. I hate the fact that talented teams like La Resistance and Dudleys (who haven’t been seen) are pushed to the side, while teams like MNM and The Heart Throbs come in and automatically are given Tag Title shots and in MNM’s case Tag Team titles. It’s arrogance. It’s ignorance. It’s hypocrisy. And it’s egotistical on Vince’s part. I love WWE, and probably always will. But if things don’t change soon, I’ll be considering my options. I’ve had my eye on TNA. While TNA isn’t what I would consider the best wrestling company in the world, they are improving. I am a TNA fan, as well as a WWE fan. If WWE wants to maintain a fan base, things must change. And change fast. I don’t want Matt Morgan. I don’t want Christian main eventing. I don’t want to Hogan come in and get carried in the ring for the next five years. And I certainly don’t want my intelligence insulted with talent and champions that are undeserving and being shoved down my throat. This can’t continue. Not anymore. I will not be taken for granted.
Hope you all enjoyed this duration. I know I’ll probably getting a lot of e-mails about this one. Don’t be too harsh. It’ll be just like sticking your hand into a cage at a petting zoo. Your bound to get bitten. Well, see you all next week, right here on the Wright Idea. From the self-proclaimed and wrestling acclaimed most controversial columnist, this is me saying….
Till Next Time…..
Have A Nice Day, The Wright Way!
“No one, and I mean no one has the outspoken attitude I bring to my column. I take pride in saying what I believe, and not caring what people think. If you care what people think, I think that effects your ability as a columnist. Am I controversial? Yes. Do I give you my true honest opinion? Yes.” – Jordon Wright
