Hello and welcome to another edition of The Final Cut! I have been rather silent on the old editorial front for the last six months or so. But I thought that now would be a good time to show my face again and let you all know what I really think of wrestling again.
This week’s Raw show was the last show before we head off to the Backlash pay-per-view on Sunday. Despite what other writers and fans have said I believe that this was a very solid show.
I have commented in the past that Batista is not very strong when it comes to speaking on the stick. He kicked off Raw with a very impressive promo with Triple H. Normally I find Triple H/Batista promos quite boring but this one was easily Batista at his best.
Christian also stepped up his game with a great promo with Ric Flair in which he tells him that if Triple H goes to Smackdown he may be able to beat Michael Cole. Christian has really improved both in the ring and on the stick recently.
Chris Jericho is due to face Shelton Benjamin at Backlash for the IC championship. It would have made sense to have them involved in a singles match against eachother or, failing that, a tag team match.
But they decided to go with Chris Jericho versus Sylvan Grenier. It was a typical match where both members of La Resistance double-teamed Chris Jericho until Jericho managed to overcome the odds and force Sylvan Grenier to tap out.
Not a bad match, normally when Sylvan Grenier or his team mate are wrestling I find myself flicking channels but they kept me watching, so that must be a good sign.
After the match Shelton Benjamin came and Chris Jericho had a stare down and then Benjamin nailed him with his suplex move. I am certainly looking forward to this match on Sunday!
Winner: Chris Jericho
Chris Masters challenged a British wrestler, by the name of Andy Baker, to break his Masterlock submission finisher. He failed.
Andy is a decent worker but he looked absolutely petrified stepping into the ring.
Regal’s autobiography is due out soon so they decided to plug it in his home country by holding a ‘party’, I could just about stand the divas coming out but when they brought out The Daily Star page three girls that was when I finally had enough and decided to have a snack break.
Muhammad Hassan & Daivari Vs. William Regal & Tajiri
Whilst William and Tajiri were dancing with the girls it was obvious that Muhammad Hassan and his manager would make an appearance and they duly did and challenged William and Tajiri to a non-title match.
The fans were firmly behind Regal and Tajiri and were very vocal throughout the match. Not a bad match, I seen worse from all four men before now. After the match Muhammad Hassan added more heel heat to himself by beating down William Regal and the napplying his camel clutch submission move.
Muhammad Hassan is really growing on me, I was not sure about him when he debuted but after watching him blossom on Raw this guy has a lot of talent that could take him far, maybe an IC title run?
Winner: Muhammad Hassan & Daivari
This was nothing more than a match to put more heat on Edge, the match was passible at best. After the match He laid out Val and Benoit came out and…well you know what happens.
Winner: Edge
Batista Vs. Christian
We all know that there is about as much chance of Acton Town reaching the Premiership than Christian defeating Batista for the world title but both guys put on one hell of a main event.
HHH, Flair and Coach were involved in the match as they tried to stack the odds in favour of Christian (god knows where Tyson went). Which meant at every opportunity you had Flair and HHH sneak attacking Batista.
This is surely Batista’s best match on WWE TV ever!
After the match they all jumped Batista and HHH managed to knock him out with his Pedigree. I’m actually looking forward to HHH/Batista II on Sunday.
Winner: Batista
Considering that recent Raw shows have been quite bad, this one was an excellent turn out. I will not dwell on the mistakes that they made, like the page 3 girls, it was an enjoyable show.
Until next time.
